  1. Not sure the Jays work as a trade partner. Strasburg is amazing and he should command an incredible price, but that price isn't worth it for the Blue Jays. If they have to give up players like Stroman or Pompey, the overall upgrade of bringing in Strasburg will be negligible. So my offer: no offer. Either sign Shields if his price is low enough, or go into the season with what you have, hope they can hold their s*** together (I believe they can; there's enough depth to sustain at least one major injury and one guy who undeperforms) and get your pitcher either at the trade deadline, or next year in free agency, when a tidal wave of premium pitching talent will be hitting the market all at once.
  2. Yeah you're right, who cares about money, success and good publicity?
  3. What the hell does this even mean? So you're saying that it's world series or bust? If the Jays make the playoffs the next four years, but don't win a ring, you'll consider it a failure?
  4. Am I the only one that doesn't expect Bautista or Edwin to cash in on monster contracts when their current deals are up? I feel like both of them will probably be at a stage where they get a Beltranish contract, I don't think it'll be as much of a shot in the foot as people think it will.
  5. Donaldson will be at a good 15M in arb by that point as well.
  6. lol he seems like a guy who could fall off a cliff? After four straight consistently good seasons, he's going to fall off a cliff at age 26?
  7. I don't know, I don't think you take Happ over Porcello unless it's virtually impossible for you to afford Porcello. I'd much rather have him at 12.5 over Happ at 6.7.
  8. So it looks like the Jays are either set to go to arbitration for the first time since 1997, or they're looking at a Donaldson extension of at least 5 years. I actually think an extension is not a bad idea, because I fully expect Donaldson to make a good 50M in his cycle through arb, barring any catastrophic injury or sudden decline. It wouldn't surprise me if Alex sees this situation in the same way he saw Bautista's in 2011; guy coming off tremendous short term success, unable to settle on an arbitration number, ultimately signs a mutually beneficial extension that supersedes all his arbitration years and dips into some free agent years. Of course the differences here are that an extension is inevitably trickier when you're looking at four arb years, and there's also the matter of the player not having spent any actual time with the team or in the city yet.
  9. That's exactly what I gathered from it when I first heard the gap in the figures. Seeing as how the next year arb is almost always a raise on the previous year barring serious injury, Donaldson's year 1 salary is actually incredibly important. The difference between the two figures exchanged isn't limited to what you see there, there's a difference of several millions down the road. That's how Alomar's career started in Toronto too. That clearly had disastrous consequences for the Jays, didn't it? If Donaldson gets his feelings hurt from this, it's not the fault of the Jays, it's because he's a prima donna.
  10. It does, but it kinda doesn't surprise me either, given that he was a super two. Donaldson's fourth arb will probably set a record if they don't extend him by then.
  11. 2015 Blue Jays Arbitration Cases Brett Cecil Signed: $2,475,000 Projection: $2,600,000 Marco Estrada Signed: $3,900,000 Projection: $4,700,000 Michael Saunders Signed: $2,875,000 Projection: $2,900,000 Danny Valencia Unsigned - figures exchanged Projection: $1,700,000 Josh Donaldson Unsigned - figures exchanged Projection: $4,500,000
  12. I don't think the list of random Jays is short.

  14. You finished second? Congrats man, good s***.
  15. Spanky is the weams of this forum. http://i.gyazo.com/d44d13816f8a6c731fbb63be945fb3df.png
  16. A 200M salary is a pindrop to Rogers. If they refuse to spend, they refuse to spend. They've done well for the payroll so far, and they've done well in the draft and IFA signings as well, but whenever it comes to large international expenditures, they seem to shy away. I also don't see them being very welcome to the idea of dumping so much excess money in penalties.
  17. I really don't see this happening. I don't see them blowing 30M in one period and throwing away another 15M in taxes. Those sound like insane amounts of money when talking about Rogers.
  18. This dude told another poster that he likes him better than Ken Rosenthal, because "you treat me better than Ken does". Link here. Kind of makes sense why that place is so f***ed up and manic when their "managing editor" is a f***ing weirdo himself.

  20. Wouldn't that mean that theoretically the fourth guy in the lineup will lead off a lot of innings with none on as well? I don't get it. His job is to get on base, whether he does that in the fourth spot to start an inning or in the third spot to keep one going. There's a pretty significant drop off in offense from Yosh/Edwin to Martin, I don't see any situational criteria justifying him getting more PA's than either of them.
  21. I don't really like Martin 3rd. I still think Pompey can quickly develop into a really good leadoff guy but I understand that the chances of that happening paired with the chances of them ever moving Reyes out of that spot are collectively very slim. 1 - S - Reyes 2 - R - Donaldson 3 - R - Bautista 4 - R - Encarnacion 5 - L - Saunders 6 - R - Martin 7 - S - Smoak 8 - S - Pompey 9 - S - Izturis

  23. It would be hilarious if Selig's last act as commissioner was to pressure the O's into letting Duquette go to the Jays as an act of animosity stemming from the MASN clusterf***.
