  1. Yeah I think the comparison isn't nearly as close as he's making it sound, but that tweet did get me to start thinking whether or not Koufax is actually pretty overrated. Regardless of the reasons for his retirement, or when he retired, he did retire, so he didn't post the longevity or the career numbers that droves of hall of famers ahead of him did.
  2. Lol, update on the draft stuff.... they can't move it out of June without opening up the CBA... so all this stuff was a waste of time and words. It's not happening this year.
  3. We've always had quote notifications. I've been using it since I joined. 4. Who cares? As little importance as all this clubhouse garbage already has, it's made even less significant with the fact that Melky is now gone. Maybe ask TMZ.
  5. Topps making a new baseball card series for celebrities who threw out first pitches. The cards will look like this: http://i.gyazo.com/c27b4894db62e5e9068dade298497b53.png http://i.gyazo.com/f997a87e869005e38941646b26e869cb.png
  6. Err, didn't know this was being discussed in here. Ill double-post the stuff I put in the draft thread: Takes: Peter Gammons: NCAA Coaches and MLB officials met Monday, general agreement on a July 1 draft and July 15 signing deadline John Manuel: big, if true John Manuel: If the draft moves to July 1, they better move the int'l signing date or start having an int'l draft, or BA will break between July 1 & 2 JJ Cooper: If this happens, biggest drawback would be for NY-P/NWL. Either start season with drastically depleted rosters or move season back Ben Badler: Would be pretty bonkers if, as @pgammo wrote could happen, MLB put the draft the day before July 2. Ben Badler: Of course, the commissioner's office has also been trying to implement an international draft. Timing sure is fascinating. Eno Sarris: Moving the draft later was step one in my two step process to improve it as a TV event http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/78916112/mlb-june-draft-more-popular-event JJ Cooper: For MLB, moving draft back would mean teams no longer have to worry about their draft pick getting overused/hurt post draft in CWS. Scott Weber: MLB moving the draft to July 1st -- I like this. Allow college kids to finish college playoffs and reduce negotiating window to two weeks. Bill Mitchell: Don't see logic for MLB moving draft back. Delaying start of pro career for hundreds to benefit handful of draftable players in CWS?
  7. Of course YOU would approve of a Romero for DD trade proposal.
  8. I think devolved is a more appropriate word.
  9. This is what I deduced as the only possible logical explanation, but it still makes no sense. There was absolutely no need to throw in the bit about Western, it's completely irrelevant to the article unless Levine was a classmate of theirs himself. All it does is confuse people and create a story where there isn't one. One executive getting the professional opinion of another rival executive is a lot different than three buddies from their college days kicking back at a bar and talking business. Everybody who's read this story thinks Levine and Ed Rogers have been friends since college and unless there's any truth to that, it's stupid and it's misinformation. Levine has more of an incentive to fill Rogers' ear with ******** if they're simply executives from rival clubs, where it would be less of a possibility if they were friends of 20 years.
  10. It doesn't show terrible character though, does it? As much as his character has taken a hit from all the Tony Rasmus stuff, the LaRussa drama and whatever else is already out there, I really doubt this'll make any difference at all. He's not really throwing anyone under the bus. He said the turf was s*** and it is. He can be bitter and upset about how his time with the Jays ended and nobody other than Jays fans is gonna care. There's no issue of "discretion" here, he hasn't revealed any juicy clubhouse secrets (yawn) and he hasn't taken any personal shots at any of the players or the team itself. He said just enough to irritate fans of the Jays, and not nearly enough to irritate anybody else. Well played on his part.
  11. This. And it's totally justified too. As bad as he was, he probably feels like the Jays treated him like s*** near the end of his tenure. It's like he was with an ugly fat chick (the Jays) and tried to find any redeemable qualities he could when she (reporters) asked him to compliment her. Now that the fat chick has dumped him, he has free reign to talk as much s*** as he wants about her.
  12. Levine got his BA from GWU and his JD from HOFSTRA, so unless he had some top secret semester at Western that nobody else knows about, or until someone with better research skills than me can find something, I'm just gonna chalk it up to Elliott being aged as f***, and this just being another inexplicable tidbit in his seemingly endless line of senseless drivel and gibberish.
  13. That's what I assumed was implied by Elliott, but I don't see anything anywhere about Levine attending UWO. I don't even know why he would attend UWO, being a law student born in Brooklyn. http://i.gyazo.com/a76bab0027af8a2f68574b651648f951.png http://i.gyazo.com/bb08cc74a4b544bae268680c4ab6cd41.png
  14. No. http://www.torontosun.com/2015/01/14/rumours-swirl-around-blue-jays-orioles What we do know: 1. Edward Rogers and his good friend Roger Rai, a “sports consultant” to the Rogers empire, met with New York Yankees president Randy Levine in New York looking for suggestions as to who to hire as the next president. Levine gave the two friends from their University of Western Ontario days, a pair of names: Kenny Williams of the Chicago White Sox and Duquette. Although Elliott is almost as terrible as Stoeten. I also have no idea what the hell he's talking about with the University of Western stuff.
  15. This is the incredible bit. It's being reported that Ed Rogers actually asked Randy Levine (president of the Yankees) who to hire for the job and Levine gave him the names of Kenny Williams and Dan Duquette. That's where this whole thing allegedly started, at least according to Old Man Elliott. Which, if true, is brutal for us. Though it does add another hilarious layer to the O's fans pain, because they literally believe that at this point, the MLB, the Jays and the Yankees are collectively conspiring against them.
  16. To aid his comeback, Alex Rodriguez is training with and being mentored by Barry Bonds in a Bay Area Facility http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing002.gif I f***ing love this game, you couldn't script this stuff http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing002.gif
  17. I don't know if DD is even worth it to begin with. He's the guy that signed Ubaldo Jimenez. I get the sentiment that anything is better than Beeston, but is it really? If Duquette is a meddlesome president that sticks his foot into the baseball ops and it makes the team worse off in the long run, I'm not sure that's a better alternative than Beeston. Yeah Beeston is generally a s*** guy to have on the job, but I don't know if he really kicks the needle one way or another. There's a realistic scenario in which that (mediocrity) is better than having two "GM's" butt heads over different philosophies. And say that doesn't happen, but the Jays miss the playoffs. They fire AA and put Duquette in full charge of the team. What if we find out that he's not a good GM? Do the Jays feel obligated to stick with him longer than they should because of this shitstorm of a situation and the story of his acquisition being made into such a big deal in the media? Will they be afraid to fire him? I don't know, the only real reason I want them to get him is to piss off O's fans.
  18. Also, I apologize for this but I can't get enough, lmao http://i.gyazo.com/0e7cc8c8e0e1f6b4e010ae2a8482acf3.png
  19. Oh yes, Garza was probably my top pick for an SP off the market, though he did pretty well last year so I'm not ashamed of that. I'm also pretty proud of how hard I shat on Butler and Ubaldo, since both guys were garbage, and my support for a Jeff Baker signing, who continued to destroy LHP as expected. Still, the Rasmus and Infante moves would have been terrible, would have probably outweighed any other good you could have done in that offseason, and probably would have stood in the way of the Donaldson and Martin acquisitions, so I readily bow my head for those hideous calls.
  20. Outside of facebook, I've got an account to follow writers and news outlets on twitter and that's probably the extent of my use of social media. Question though; how would you know what a "tumblr guy" would seem like?
  21. I don't know what that means.
  22. Around this time last year I was clamoring pretty hard for a Rasmus extension and a 3-year Infante deal, and s***ing on the idea of signing Santana. Oops.
