So I double-checked, and it does look like he's only in line for three starts against the Yankees. I'm not sure why they said he'd get a start in each of the next two Yankees series, because for that to happen, they'd have to give him an extra day off. If they do that, it'll change the rest of the schedule as well, and make it tough for him to make the wild card start.
It's not about whether or not the team can afford the contract, it's about whether or not they should. 180/6 is nowhere near enough to what he'll get. He's going to get a contract in the Scherzer/Kershaw range, and it's not a sound investment at that price.
If, for whatever unthinkable reason, he fell down to the Lester/Felix price range, I would sign him in a heartbeat.
