Not to be a downer, but this narrative gets written almost every year. It means nothing that the Jays are one of the few big market teams with money, because if somebody wants a player enough, they'll pay for them. We already know the Cubs have a ton of money and they'll be big players in the SP market this year. There's also always the mystery team. Nobody saw Fielder going to the Tigers, nobody saw Pujols going to the Angels, nobody saw Cano going to the Mariners, and nobody saw Scherzer going to the Nats. There's no use predicting what the market will be like even when you're in October, let alone in the middle of an active season. The precedent for 200M+ contracts for bona fide aces has already been set, and unless the wheels completely fall off on Price's season, I don't think he'll have much trouble getting himself into that range.
