I honestly wouldn't do anywhere near that.
Both pitchers are way overpaid to be given that much in assets. Maybe if Hamels was making half and Papelbon a third it would make sense.
He didn't show a desire really, the media made a case that Toronto might want him and they asked him, he said sure, why not. They may have asked about 10 other teams and he would have said the same answer.
Who else would want his contract right now? It's not like the Phillies are going anywhere that he wants to be part of.
What i do find interesting, after having both Castro and Osuna come up, where would we put Papelbon?
AA is in dire situation, i don't blame him for going all in.
If we don't make the playoffs and they fire him, he has nothing to show for the last 5 years besides saying the farm was so good that we could trade for players.
If we do make the playoffs he can show continual growth from his farm that led to success in the majors.
Could someone please explain to me, why does someone in the dugout always throws a ball to the first basement after the 3rd out? It's like he has a ball in his hand and they give him another one and he sometimes throws one of them to the crowd.
I went to one Argos game where it was playoffs and there were something like 45k in Rogers Center, it's a totally different feeling than the usual ~20k fans.
