  1. They've done what now seems like an obvious move in retrospect, and completely shielded him from facing LHP. Career 116 wRC+ vs RHP but 78 against LHP. As a result this is his best offensive season since his 20 year old rookie year, granted, there's a fair bit of smoke and mirrors here as the underlying Statcast batted ball numbers aren't very good. Still an excellent fielder though and he's a neutral baserunner, so a very valuable platoon bat who faces the majority of pitchers.
  2. They're just the raw values, the units presumably being run value added (or subtracted) relative to some baseline level. I think Savant prefers relative to average than to replacement level. They’re basically just giving you more info now in the main player dashboard rather than just the percentile rankings. At least now you can see how they compare to the rest of the league even if they’re unqualified.
  3. Definitely still in. Not sure what moves I need to make in the offseason to fix the issues with the team but I'll be exploring my options.
  4. To be fair it might’ve been a cutter and the movement caught him off guard. But yeah he was way behind on that.
  5. Way to dig in for the last batter Berrios.
  6. That was some Rick Ankiel s*** from Ragans.
  7. Came off the bag, he’s out.
  8. Insane plate discipline from Babe. No idea how he took that 2-2 slider low in the zone.
  9. Kirk should apologize to Waters for that absolute robbery of a strike. No one handles the bottom of the zone like he does.
  10. 2021 Vlad gets that over the fence but that was an excellent AB.
  11. I remember thinking the same about Matt Moore back in the day.
  12. Not really honestly. I love Trout obviously but he’s now 32 on a huge contract until he’s 39 and it’s pretty clear his durability is a big concern especially at this point in his career. The Angels would have to eat half his salary to even get the conversation started for most teams to begin offering any half decent prospect.
  13. 97 from Chad Green is exactly what we needed to see. Makes the slider far more effective.
  14. There’s not really much to argue. He’s been pretty bad at stealing bases in his career but has consistently provided solid baserunning value added since he’s aggressive and generally makes good decisions in taking the extra bag.
  15. Varsho is an otherwise excellent baserunner, even with his inefficiency in stealing bags. If anything his lack of speed is probably what causes him to not be as good of a base stealer, that and I feel like he slides weird.
  16. Honestly I'm not even blinking at a sub 27% K rate in his first taste of AAA at 21. Especially when the power has stayed intact (his ISO is actually higher at AAA lol) and the walk rate is good. Would I call him up right now? No, there's no need and there's definitely stuff to work on. But it's not like I would be majorly concerned with contact issues at the MLB level right now aside from any other rookie of ours, moreso making sure that he continues having a good approach so when he's ready sometime next season he can hit the ground running.
  17. You need to give both teams the same amount of chances to call it. Right now the Jays have a half inning on the Rockies.
  18. He averaged 94.7 mph which is over 1 tick lower than his career average. Didn’t hit 96 (or 95.5) once.
  19. Splitters are brutal on the arm. To go along with the general pitching and throwing 100+ consistently thing of course.
  20. A .766 OPS is horrendous for an all bat 1B, like legitimately below replacement level. The power numbers needless to say are vomit inducing not just for the position, but his build and former track record.
  21. Him being a pitcher as well is what's driving all the hype though. Ohtani is hugely marketable and if you stop allowing him to pitch there goes the whole novelty of what he provides. He just becomes another run of the mill HOF hitter instead of a GOAT baseball talent that gives you tons of national and international coverage. No baseball player in a very long time has commanded this kind of mythical allure.
  22. Masataka Yoshida has quietly slipped to a 120 wRC+ with mediocre power, not a lot of walks, and horrendous defense + baserunning. And he's actually outperforming his xWOBA. Not looking like such a hot contract for the Red Sox anymore, the evaluators who clowned on them at the time of signing are starting to be in the right again. 5/90 to a 30 year old slap hitting DH with just above average (for a DH) hitting is pretty bad.
  23. Like "anything ever seen", from the same team who left a historically great season from Zack Britton rotting in the bullpen while mediocre arm Ubaldo Jimenez faces and promptly gives up a walkoff bomb to a great hitter, less than 10 years ago. I for one hope we face the Orioles in the playoffs and those geniuses put Shintaro Fujinami in a tied game in the 10th inning.
