  1. And that's where the velocity difference plays a big factor. High fastball at 96-97 is unhittable but at 92-93 it's a crushable pitch.
  2. He's already been injured and lost significant velocity at the time, it's bounced back some but he hasn't been the same pitcher since. It's not uncommon for pitchers to break down after having arm trouble.
  3. It actually has though. His top end velocity used to be 96-97 which he could reach quite easily. There's a big difference between sitting 92-93 and reaching back when necessary to the current version of Latos who can't dial it up to 95. I'm sure the breaking stuff has also suffered.
  4. That was actually a terrific play by Latos, and some terrible baserunning by the Yankees.
  5. Latos is throwing serious junk.
  6. Oh yeah that's fair. It's way too early.
  7. You're completely missing the point here. I never said I believed Jansen to be nearly as good as Molina, I said that if he hits well enough to not be an embarrassment while playing the catching position well then that's at least a piece that you'd like to have. On the other hand, if the hitting changes are for real and he's a high contact, high OBP low power guy (like 2009 Yadier Molina offensively) and can have average offensive seasons then he's an asset.
  8. Personally if we're going for overrated catchers then I think Salvador Perez takes the cake there. However, unlike Jeter both of those guys legitimately play elite defense.
  9. This is such weird criticism. Who cares if he isn't a slugger? As long as he can play the catching position well and not embarrass himself while hitting that already makes him a very useful piece. If he can hit like say, 2009 Yadier Molina, and also provide quality defense then that's an asset.
  10. I agree 100%. It's so refreshing to have a backup who doesn't look like an idiot receiving a pitch that wasn't at its intended location, for once. I missed tonight's game, I'll check the 30 minute recap later on, but I was really impressed with Maile on his other start against the Rays. It's just so nice to have a sound defensive catcher as a backup for the first time in a few years, and no offense to Thole who wasn't awful but his name was attached to Dickey who was the worst to endure.
  11. Gruber is actually quite correct here. You can gather a lot of information of a catcher's framing ability from one game.
  12. I'll be optimistic and say Raptors in 7. There'll probably be one or two embarrassing games (most likely in Cleveland) and it could serve as a wake up call and ignite the team the same as in game 3 of the Milwaukee series. I don't see us winning this first game in Cleveland unfortunately. Let's hope the ball movement and defensive coordination is there.
  13. Is this the tweet version of clickbait? Why are there so many irrelevant hashtags?
  14. It's unethical to take advantage of drunk people.
  15. Oh look, Zaun is stirring up s*** again.
  16. Called it. Can I play backup for the Jays now?
  17. Gorgeous fastball on the outside corner. Finish him with a nasty slider.
  18. Are you f***ing kidding me? Not like this.
  19. Rickie Weeks is getting destroyed by sliders.
  20. Nice play by Longoria. Alright Osuna, shut it down!
