  1. I doubt he'd do much of anything even if he had the money. Outside of getting Colby he really hasn't done much at the deadline. OK, those years they weren't in contention but he'll either claim the price was too much, we didn't have money, we're getting guys back from the DL so it's like making a trade etc. Most of the big fish will be too costly so I really don't mind him not selling what's left of the farm for a rental or someone who will tie up payroll. A guy like Price would be outstanding but I doubt it would happen with the funds even being available. I'm still going to hope at least something gets done, even another minor deal like they just made but I won't get my hopes up.
  2. That would make AA the King Troll of the GM world. No one would deal with him again but part of me would laugh at the drag it out for 72 hours for an extension period only to never be serious.
  3. AA will despair them by waiting until the Sox or whatever team acquires him, signs him to an extension, then AA will trade for him, give up prospects and take on more money than he would want to give in a FA contract. That's how!
  4. This sounds like one of those "if you've heard a rumour it's not true" kind of AA deals. It's probably more speculation or some team leaking some info to try and increase Lester's value slightly or make it look like there's more people in on it to force a team to pony up a better deal. He'd be great to have but why on earth would the BoSox trade him within the division unless they're getting a huge payday and why would the Jays pick him up when he can walk a couple months from now, potentially back to the BoSox, and cost the Jays some good pieces? As for him not making his start against the Jays, it could be something is up on the trade front, or maybe they're going to skip his start and have him go against a team that didn't just hand the Sox their asses offensively hoping he can pitch better and increase his value? Or maybe he's tired/stiff and they're skipping his start/pushing it back for no real reason.
  5. I assume (I could be wrong) that if they agree to send cash it would depend on when they send it ie if the deal called for say $20M but an equal amount over the course of X years, or a certain amount upfront. Then I guess AA could use it as he felt fit.
  6. It should have been based loaded no one out for Bautista but they chase ball 4 on every out.
  7. He was worse in person yesterday. His flailing attempts at bluffing bunts, check swinging at horrible pitches, looking like a 50 year old trying to chase down pop ups and having to hold my breath on every throw. Ugh.
  8. In Jesse's defense, what pretty much ended his career was a fluke with the infection from the PCP injection that caused him to need a bone graft and multiple surgeries. You want to talk about bad luck. I feel for the guy. It's one thing to break down. It's another to have that happen.
  9. Agreed. Rogers has his control issues but damn you call him back up only to send him back down, potentially losing him on a waiver claim, when you have Rasmussen with options. It's not like Rogers is a AAAA 36 year old who's at the end of his career who you bring up for an extra arm to give your pen a break and not bring up someone young too early. We're close to the deadline so maybe AA can stick him in a trade and at least get some money for him if not stick him with someone to acquire a decent piece. Maybe with some of the moves that teams will be doing soon he might slip through unclaimed. I wouldn't hold my breath but I'd rather give him a second chance than let him go for nothing. He might revert back to his old self but at the same point if he's a bit better he's an arm that could give you a few innings and strike outs late. Maybe his money owed will keep a few teams off him?
  10. "Page Not Found." The two "low end" prospects is what would be of interest to me. That seems like a relative term. They might tank like some of the prospect given away or in the system. Francisco has fallen a lot but like mentioned he's under team control next year and a few more, Headley has been injured, hasn't shown his best stuff, and can walk to FA next year and will cost at least what he made this year since someone will likely pay him that, if not, more than Lawrie and Francisco combined. I can't see parting with Francisco plus two prospects for a couple months of a guy who could wind up leaving anyway. Maybe if he was one of those players who would single handed push the Jays into first, you might do it, but it seems like giving up a guy with some raw power, who if he can get his head together, maybe after a full year in the bigs, might be able to cut down on the strike outs. Plus the Jays' luck he'd come over and reinjure himself.
  11. They don't have excuses but they seem to make them up as they go along. Kuroda makes it look easy our guys make it look difficult.
  12. Jesus watching Navarro "running" to first was like watching someone ready to pass out and fall over.
  13. So, they basically traded Deck for Mills? They might have gotten their waiver fee back and a bit more.
  14. Can anyone really blame Rogers for not wanting to hand the Jays more money? They handed them a large chunk when AA said the time was right, and here's the trades we're going to make, he made the moves, payroll went up to the highest it's been in years (if not the highest ever for the team) and it was a complete failure last year and this year they've fallen back to mediocrity. You have to figure someone is thinking why should we trust this guy again, allow him to spend more money, and cross our fingers hoping they can punch through when they began faltering even before the injuries hit? As much as I would love the Jays to go out and get someone, or a pair of players to push the Jays to the playoffs and hopefully to the late rounds if not the Series, I don't really see it happening without a huge overpay. If they could get someone who's under control for at least a year and a half it's not that bad but going into the offseason the team will have more questions to answer with Rasmus, Melky both being FA to be, no one really to replace them, guys like Morrow. McGowan, Santos (though he's not off the roster) with options that could be declined and let go, along with the question marks that we have right now with 2B, the rotation, the pen. If you're going to take away prospects/the future for a chance now, you'd have to hope it wouldn't just be a rental or let's go this year and burn some more prospects in the process. It's a tough call, plus other teams have to be willing to agree on a price. Some teams might know that they can ask for more since the same players might be wanted by the Yankees, O's, or another team outside of our division. We'll have to wait and see.
  15. It's not really too surprising that Santos cleared waivers. Who wants to take what's guaranteed in his contract on right now? He's been injured off and on since he's been here and he's been all over the place when he's off. You could throw blindfolded and hit spot better than him at times. Any team that might want to give him a shot would wait until he clears, hope he refuses the outright assignment and either sign him to a minors deal or the prorated minimum. No sense in assuming everything if they don't have to.
  16. s***! Sorry. Here we go. The "Before" photo before they got bombed on many liquors.
  17. Well, it is the right move to jettison someone like Mills who never should have been handed a roster spot to begin with along with doing something with Santos blowing up when he comes in.
  18. Hopefully this is one of those rumours we hear about that doesn't work out at least not if we have to give up anything of value for yet another former Jay. AA will more than likely voluntarily bend himself over to make a trade if Texas says they have other people asking and making offers for Rios so give us another piece. I know it would give us someone for next year especially if both Rasmus and Melky walk. I could also see the Jays giving up some of what's left of our better prospect to get him, failing to make the playoffs and then AA going on about how we have him under contract for next year and it's better that way because the OF free agents would be too expensive (watch Rasmus and Melky sign for less). Maybe they'll throw in JPA so AA can send Sanchez to them. (sarcasm)
  19. Claim Mills, who you traded away for a back up catcher, pay the waiver fee, DFA McGuire, who is basically a wash at this point and shouldn't have been drafted as high as he was, then DFA another player that is a wash, and think people will take you seriously when you're telling them you're actively looking for players. Why the f*** would you even bother with scrubs? It's liek AA is contractually bound to make a certain number of waiver claims a year for s*** players to cycle through. This team, of all teams, should know just how bad Mills was going to be back in the AL East and this bandbox, but no, bring him in. Might as well have called up someone from Buffalo who wasn't on the 40 man just to plug a spot.
  20. Finally Scico got a hit! Just missed going over the wall but better than a K.
  21. I hope Hutch gets this out of his system and comes back strong Saturday. ESPN has him as the probable starter against the Yankees. I'm going to be at that game. I don't think I could take something like this in person in the Bronx.
  22. Holy f***! Did that just happen? It's like this team is cursed or finds ways to give up runs. Balks, falling from the mound, bloops and a just over the wall homer, whatever the hell this play was.
  23. Maybe they can deal Hutch for something and try using his splits from home-away to make another team interested. One with a big yard. I knew there would be some regression with Hutch but it seems like he's falling apart.
