  1. ^ Pretty much. Unless he does something out of the blue a la the Rasmus deal that no one thought/heard about it's likely nothing will happen. Maybe not even in August. The club will have some regulars back soon and some of the weaker parts of the pen have been removed so it's not a bad place to be in. It would be nice if another piece could be added but if it doesn't happen it's not a shock. Would be nice to make a quality move but like many have said most thought nothing more would happen, even going back weeks ago to the "Rogers said no more money" rumours.
  2. They're will always be people who will be mad, some even if the team wins the World Series. Sure some people will be pissed. I might not be too happy if they come up short and a potential upgrade might have made the difference. Then again I don't nor anyone for that matter know if a trade was made would it have helped. Hell, we don't know if AA could make a deal that didn't lead to years of rebuilding again just to make a shot now. We'll never know if something could have been done or not since we're not the GM and/or the GMs talking trades. You'll have the bandwagon fans who will bitch like they always do and stop showing up and you might have some people who get upset that we came so close yet didn't make it in wondering if something could have been done. The only way I would be royally pissed is if AA had a decent trade lined up and didn't go through with it either because he dropped the ball or if Rogers said you don't get another dime even though this will push ups into the playoffs and possibly the World Series. Again, we'd likely never know that. Some will be mad, some upset if the team is this close and something falls apart a la 2000 when the Jays went on that losing streak and doomed their WC chances. I'm used to not making the playoffs so I can't be too upset if that happens. I might be disappointed as many might if we come so close yet so far but we as fans can't really do anything about it. BoSox fell apart, other teams that were favourites failed to win, make the playoffs, win the series so if people get pissed then so be it. s*** happens. A lot of things can't be controlled.
  3. Jenkins and Valencia! World Series here we come!
  4. My guess is either they think someone is hurt or to flip one of those starters to a desperate team either in the next couple hours or sometime in August.
  5. Flyball pitchers in RC, I can only image how that would work out.
  6. AA still overpaid by breaking Norris' hand, giving Nay an lung infection and two PTBN will head to the DL.
  7. Are those dollars US, Canadian, or Australian?
  8. True. If the right deal comes along, then do it, but the overpay that could occur would be suicidal. I'd like to see AA pick up a piece that helps push the Jays into the division lead, pitching is always good, but I think you're right when a RHRP who can be trusted to come in late and slam the door would be a good improvement. Our rotation hasn't been horrible, though I do worry a bit in the coming weeks what might happen if Hutch struggles/fatigues and if Stroman has an innings limit and we're as close as we are now in the standings. One start could be the difference.
  9. I have a feeling this is what happens with AA a lot in that case:
  10. I hope AA is in ninja mode and working on something. I dont' want a deal for the sake of a deal but it's annoying seeing these other teams make some kind of improvements while we do minor things if that. Easier said than done I know.
  11. Tommy Milone went to the Twins?
  12. That's what I'm afraid of; AA trading some prospects for mediocre, non improvements or rentals that they really don't stand a chance at resigning due to pressure/desperation to give the team a much needed shot in the arm to push into the playoffs. Then again I can see them standing pat again unless something comes up. I could see Rasmus being dealt but I think AA might be in the get guys who are ready now or will be by next year mode. I could be wrong. I'm not expecting anything, maybe a small deal ie spare parts for spare parts, but we have a few hours left.
  13. I heard something similar while watching the stream from the Red Sox. Their announcers were talking about how they (Red Sox) didn't like handing out long contracts 4-5 years or more, to pitchers once they've hit 30 since most start to slow down, breakdown, tailspin or are high price replacement level pitchers. Each case can be unique since some guys pitched well into their late 30s some into their early 40s though rare. I'm sure someone will give him a contract longer than the Sox would like to but their main concern is if they sign him 5-6 years they might get 2-3 good seasons and then the next 1-3 (depending on length of the deal) might either be hurt, lackluster, replacement level etc. I think Lester would be a decent bet to be a decent pitcher at 35 and maybe a couple years after but I don't see him being a top of the rotation guy then so I can understand them not wanting to pay him for it.
  14. THe Jays would probably throw in Norris and more
  15. Rasmus for Tommy Milone and Deck McGuire Who am I kidding that wouldn't be enough of an AA overpay
  16. Maybe they're getting cut of a bonus Lester gets when traded? They've spoken more about him than the game and Jays in the past inning or two.
  17. Oh it would be nice if the Halos come back and beat the Os and the Jays hold the lead.
  18. "When we come back Ryan..Anthony Gose will lead off." Have another shot.
  19. There we go! I held my breath on that shot. I thought the 2B had it on a line.
  20. What's really depressing is when Buck mentioned Yan Gomes and since I'm a glutton for pain I checked his stats. But we got our #2 man in Rogers for it so it's an even deal.
