  1. That's a tad hyperbolic. Goins isn't a scrub, right now he's replacement level AAA depth. Perhaps he can improve his hitting and be a bench piece. Very little of that is based on a 60 AB MLB sample though.
  2. I'm not suggesting anyone give Goins' 500 AB's in a starting gig. I'm quite confident he'll get that many between this season and the next two though.
  3. That isn't going to happen. Even if management does in fact make that decision to do so based on a one month sample, regardless of the results, would be moronic.
  4. Can't afford? He'll be in AAA next season and will get more AB's when injuries happen.
  5. Or the most logical stance. Let him play the games as he's going to be given AB's anyways and digest the stats as the sample becomes meaningful.
  6. Time to start a Ryan Goins regression to the mean thread?
  7. The burden of proof is on the player and his ability to perform over a large sample. 60 ABs is 60 ABs regardless of past statistical precedent. I'm sure you can find a 60 AB stretch where Barry Bonds or Hank Aaron were pedestrian.
  8. Sure we can say his bat is still highly likely to stink and that the stats are beginning to regress. Those are reasonable statements. It's still foolish to hold a 40 or 60AB sample as proof of anything only when it is convenient to your viewpoint. It's just funny that the people who were all over posters for a SSS used a the exact same sample (+20-35 ABs depending when you jumped on board) SSS the second it was convenient for them to.
  9. It's still 60AB's. The people championing SSS and regression shouldn't act as if this is a definitive set of data because it confirms their hypotheses.
  10. It's hard to watch a healthy Lawrie and view an injury plagued 2013 as a true reflection of Lawrie's career. However, it's certainly possible and perhaps a likely outcome if Lawrie keeps getting injured. I wills ay this though, I cannot remember the last Jay to have as much raw talent/athleticism as Lawrie does. Perhaps Shawn Green, or Vernon Wells did (Delgado was a born hitter but wasn't nearly as athletic) but, I might even go all the way back to Alomar. Lawrie has the complete tool-set and will be a decent player even if he doesn't put the whole package together. If he does he'll be an MVP calibre player.
  11. He was rushed back from injury and has still almost been average with the bat, he plays plus D at 3B, is a decent base runner (albeit immature on the base paths) and is only 23yo and should only improve over the next ~3-5 seasons or so.
  12. AA doesn't talk about specific players. The quotes are generalities and Beltran hasn't spoken about it.
  13. It's all speculation. Toronto offered quite a bit more but is that 500k or $5M? We know he preferred to play on grass. We don't know if the turf was a deal breaker.
  14. Age has nothing to do with it. We also don't know exactly why Beltran chose STL. It probably had something to do with the turf but the money was probably close and STL was a much better team.
  15. It's a much better team than a couple seasons ago. The Jays may offer him more money than other places. Opinions change.
  16. Choo and Beltran both make sense in the OF. Pick up Ruiz or McCann to fill the hole at C. Sign Garza or Kuroda for the #2 spot in the rotation.
  17. Ya, it's been a small sample this season and the K rates are down for no real reason. He's been a 0.5 - 1.0 WAR guy for most of his career and I suspect he will be in that range the rest of his career. He is just an average defender and first year arb eligible, not that he'll get that much. I'd honestly rather have Izturis, I don't really see any reason to pick him up at all.
  18. I'd like to see Buck back actually. He is a 1 - 1.5 WAR player but, he has some pop and is likeable.
  19. Pass as a starter. Could be a decent bench option though.
  20. Similar to a brown out but more severe.
  21. Fair enough, keep the Kalfus Bisons jersey on one end and the Goins Jays jersey on the other with the other major leaguers.
  22. It'll look good next to Kalfus' when he makes the show.
  23. sign Russ Martin, trade Farrell for Aviles and enjoy a playoff run
