  1. Why ignore the failure though. He succeeded at an advanced age for the level, he failed at an advanced age too. By that I would guess he would struggle in the MLB this year, but that hasn't happened yet
  2. Just added their ages too
  3. My favourite part; 2012 R: -8; 52 PA 2013: MLB: 107; 39 PA One was actually a larger sample than the other yet one is definitive and the other isn't even considered.
  4. If you reorder it by sample size and don't exclude the small bad samples it would look like this; 2012: AA: 105; 618 PA 2013: AAA: 90; 418 PA 2011 A+: 109; 398 PA 2010 A: 122; 338 PA 2010 A+: 47; 182 PA 2009 A-: 114; 110 PA 2009 A: 46; 89 PA 2012 R: -8; 52 PA 2013: MLB: 107; 39 PA Looks a lot less stellar
  5. He doesn't hit enough to have a high floor. His floor is a AAA retread who is out of the game by 28.
  6. If Vernon Wells' contract can be moved, any contract can be moved.
  7. If he will come ceap then sure. Not a guy I would pay top dollar for at this point though.
  8. AA could do worse than a Thole-Ruiz platoon but, I'd much prefer a legit every day guy like McCann. Gose, Kawasaki, Lind and Thole/Mathis/whoever would be a strong group.
  9. No idea exactly who they could land but, I'd start by calling TEX and STL to try and make something happen.
  10. It's silly to write anyone off but, there is no reason to go with Goins as the starting 2B next year b/c of a one game sample. This org is trying to contend, go out and get a starting 2B. Goins has options, he will be there when needed. Let him prove himself over a larger sample as the inevitable injuries hit. Use Kawasaki off the bench and let him play every day in AAA.
  11. Ah ya, I get it now. I'm not really worried about Lawrie at all. He's gonna hit.
  12. If he can continue to get on base and play good D then he could be a 1-3 WAR guy. Perhaps Marco Scutaro (who was very good at 2B at one point) would be a good comp. Goins is going to K a lot more than Scutaro though.
  13. Make threads for some things. There isn't really any reason for anyone to start a thread for a HS baseball podcast in September though. I wouldn't mind a place for people to dump links... It could just be me though.
  14. It'd be good to have a spot to just drop links in to. Scouting reports, game notes, podcasts, articles, chats, interviews etc that don't necessarily deserve their own thread...
  15. In before your posse comes to defend you. http://cdn.memegenerator.net/instances/400x/37325404.jpg The Kalfus thread will be gold when he fizzles out in AAA.
  16. And you've resorted to making things up. Have a nice evening.
  17. You're asking me if Kawasaki would have made two specific plays. I asked you if Goins would make two specific plays. You can point to those plays as evidence Goins has a stronger arm than Kawasaki which, I think everyone here would agree with. You can't say he is a better defender all around because he does one thing better. Furthermore, the arm of a 2B is the least valuable tool at that position. Before I hear "hahaha", I;d like to know what tool you feel is less valuable; speed? hitting for average? power? fielding? We all know range, hands and footwork is what makes 2B D, a strong arm is a bonus. Kawasaki's arm isn't so bad that he can't make most plays, sure he wont make a couple that Goins would over a course of a season, that's about the end of it. Yet, Kawasaki has shown and proven that he has above average hands, range and footwork all over the infield. There is no way that after 9 games you can say Goins and his superior arm is the better all around defensive package. Additionally it's pretty obvious that Kawasaki is the better hitter today. Perhaps Goins will be better in the future but, that time isn't now.
  18. Are you feeling ok bro? You've done a lot of laughing and very little rational thinking.
  19. Who was ripping AA for keeping Kawasaki instead of Goins. I'm pretty sure we were all pretty thankful they had him when Reyes went down. I also don't really get why you keep going to the better defender, like you can even remotely evaluate defence over a 9 game sample. Kawasaki has also shown to have great fundamentals all over the diamond and in every facet of the game. Goins turns a DP and has a stronger arm and all of a sudden he has better fundamentals. Kawasaki was trained in Japan, where fundamentals are a part of every day life, he has shown to do the little things to the highest level at the highest level over 13 seasons of professional baseball. These 9 games of Goins sure have been great though.
  20. Would Goins have hit that walk off double that Kawasaki did back in May? Would Goins have hit that 2 run, game winning single in July? It's a fools errand to judge players in small samples and individual plays is about as small as it gets.
  21. Ya man, you said Goins should be on the bench next year because he's turned a nice DP today and has a better arm than Kawasaki. You've been killing it.
  22. Wooooooooooooowa!!! Wow-ahhh wwwwweeee ahhhh!!!! Seriously how could you evaluate Goins without watching that DP? Come on, you didn't even watch the DP? Hey, did you see that DP Goins turned? He's an upper tier defensive 2B!
  23. I really don't get the logic. Put him in AAA and on the 40-man. If injuries come up and he's playing well use an option year and give him another look. Keep doing that until he plays his way on to the team or you find a better option. He isn't the type of player you plan around but he's good to have in the org.
  24. Wow, he's made two above average plays. He's great! It's nice that he was given a chance to showcase his plus arm at 2B but it's seriously the least important tool for the position. If your big point for Goins next season is his arm you should re-examine the way you evaluate 2B defense and it's worth.
  25. By definition a replacement level player isn't a MLB player. Having a AAA player as a starter is a pretty terrible worst case scenario. To fan the flames it's a pretty high probability outcome as well. But let's put all our eggs in the Goins basket because he's looked like a 2 WAR player after 9 games.
