  1. I don't really see it either but, they're terrible and he is set to make a lot of money. I also have no idea if the Jays could afford Mauer's salary or the cost in talent but, he'd be a great addition to this team.
  2. AA would probably give up some crazypackage of prospects, like Stroman + Nolin + Norris + Hutch, for Price. He should avoid dealing with TB at all costs. I agree that AA should dip in to the FA pool to fill C and a mid-rotation spot. IMO it is going to take a trade to land the true #1 this team needs. I'm expecting one of Halladay, Garza or Johnson to be signed this off-season to fill the mid-rotation spot. McCann or Ruiz have to be the top C's on the market and I would agree with AA targeting either of them. However, there are also some pretty decent C targets that could be available for trade. I'd call MIL about Lucroy and MIN about Mauer. Slim chances at landing either of those players but, AA should test the market before FA.
  3. I feel comfortable with Kawasaki's D at 2b, SS and 3b. Perhaps Goins can show the same kind of versatility in September. If he doesn't I'd much rather go with Kawasaki of the bench.
  4. Even so his vat is terrible. He has a 2 WAR ceiling but there is very little chance he ever hits enough to be that valuable. He should be viewed as a -1.5 - 1 WAR guy. Good to have in AAA or of the bench. Bottom line is Kendrick would be a huge upgrade and should be targeted by AA. I wouldn't give up Stroman for Kendrick though. Nolin, Cecil and a high upside A ball fit like Dean or Robson.
  5. Reyes should have killed him in the media. Seriously though what else would you expect him to say?
  6. Well I guess the debate is settled then since he's looked like a scrub so far.
  7. I believe that it is possible payroll could go up. No one has said it will though so there is no reason to act like it is going to.
  8. In the off-season AA said he was close to the payroll cap but there would be some space to make a room at the deadline if necessary. There is no reason to assume payroll will go up until it actually goes up.
  9. I somehow missed this at the time. I'm on the fence with that move. If you think Stroman is a legit front end starter, then there is no chance in hell I make that deal. If you think he ends up in the BP eventually then I make that deal in a second. I'm presonally leaning towards Stroman in the rotation but, there are some red flags.
  10. I don't really disagree but, IMO you are speaking more towards this as opposed to this I think it's important to distinguish that this team is close to contending. There are 4 huge holes on the current team; 2B, C, LF and SP. Currently these spots are filled by replacement level or sub-replacement level players. Those are easy wins to add this off-season. Literally any actual starter (and many bench bats) at those positions are better than what AA has been throwing out there. However, it is impossible to argue that AA has put himself an enviable situation. He's already moved the majority of his big trade chips. He cannot make a big move without devastating the farm or creating a hole on the MLB roster. Payroll is capped or close to it. It's going to take some shrewd planning, a payroll bump or something to fall in to AA's lap to get over the hump.
  11. I'd like to see a few of the same things as Gsnarls this off-season; I want to: Sign McCann (or Ruiz as plan Sign Choo to play LF Do not pick up Lind's contract, resign him at a lower amount Get rid of Melky, for nothing if you have to, someone will take that contract it's just a matter of at what cost IMO. Let Rajai walk Keep Gose up as 4th OF and pinch runner Sign a somewhat reliable SP this off-season. Josh Johnson on a 1yr, Doc Halladay would be the second guy I called, Garza would be after those two. Extend Rasmus 4 years 32M plus an option year Trade for a legitimate starting 2B. Go with Kawasaki/Goins and Izturis if the value isn't there. Do not overpay in prospects for a 2B. Always be on the prowl for an ace. I would not be comfortable throwing any of the current staff out to start the one game playoff. That definitely should be addressed in the off-season.
  12. Going in to last off-season I was dreaming AA would land Martin, Dickey, and Melky. AA delivered on 2 of the 3, too bad he picked Melky instead of Martin. I have no idea what he was thinking going with JPA behind the dish. I was obvious the primary focus of the off-season should have been improving the rotation and finding a C. LF was way down the list of priorities and should have been filled with a late off-season value option or platoon. Worst case scenario AA was looking at Gose in CF and Rasmus LF anyways, Good news is this club is still only a couple tweaks away from contention. Bad news is they don't have very many expendable assets in the high minors. I suspect AA will move one of the big names; Stroman, Sanchez, Osuna, Hutch, . If he does pull the trigger it better be for a star 2B, SP, or C though. This team doesn't need to waste assets on more depth, they should seriously look at bringing in some FA's to fill those roles.
  13. Not making an out > getting a hit. One of the basic tennets of SABRmetrics.
  14. Wasn't in the announced list of 7 AFL players. Things could change I guess but, it doesn't look like he'll be playing winter ball this year.
  15. It goes both ways. Holy f*** already. Observation is a good to start your initial platform in evaluating a player,no doubt. But you have to actually analyze the player's performance statistically and also try and learn about personality and clubhouse presence. A mix of both is what is always best.
  16. Melky hit .280 this year. Prime example why BA isn't a good stat. The run value of a single is significantly less than an XBH, a good offensive indicator reflects that.
  17. but not all hits are equal, so why value them as such?
  18. Doesn't impact the Jays too much, outside of ruling out real grass in the near future. Terrible news for Argo fans though. They need, and deserve, a downtown CFL only stadium.
  19. Buck isn't a starting C anymore but, he'd still make a great back up IMO. If he has no hard feeling towards the org I'd love to see him back in a reduced role. We know he loves the city/fans, he would just need to patch things up with AA/Beeston to make it work. As much as people harp on AA for trading away all of those prospects how bad does moving Buck, Mathis and d'Arnaud in one off-season look now?
  20. Carlos Ruiz would be my plan B. He mashes lefties and can be played against the majority of righties. A John Buck/Ruiz platoon would be a huge improvement over this year's JPA/Thole tandem.
  21. Like? Replacing the turf with real grass?
  22. I think a few of those guys could be back end starters, in the AL East, next season. That being said I don't think the Jays should fill the last two spots with back-end guys. IMO they need to bring in a front-end pitcher. Let the rest of the depth guys fight over the fifth spot. The rest will get a call-up if they are performing well later in the year when injuries hit.
  23. It would take the Brewers deciding to completely blow it up. I think they are trying to rebuild but, I think they hang on to Braun and Lucroy. In terms of value if MIL does decide to field offers for him I'm thinking Stroman + Jimenez + their pick of Nolin/Hutch/Drabek might get it done.
  24. McCann would be my ideal target as well. I'd offer him a Jose Bautista 6yr $84M deal. I have no idea if it will take more or less than that though. It's going to depend on how many and which teams are involved.
  25. It's not the Goins he's worried about but the coming.
