  1. Pretty sure Tex would offer Profar+ and there would be lots of other teams interested. Price is worth a Lawrie + Sanchez/Stroman type of package IMO. However, I'd rather avoid dealing in the division and there is no heir apparent to replace Lawrie. Pass.
  2. That's the route I'd go as well
  3. Pretty sure all those guys lacked a major league toolset this session. Kudos to Melky for trying to play through that injury but he was clearly hobbled out there and just plain bad.
  4. AA is pissed Mottola was preaching to use the whole field. #Pulldatball#JPALINE
  5. TBH I wouldn't give up much more than Rasmus + BP Piece + a ball guy for Price. He's about to get paid big money. Pitchers get hurt all the time and he isn't that good (he's definitely a top 20 guy in the MLB, just not a perennial CY guy IMO).
  6. IMO Price doesn't really make sense for the Jays. Talent-wise sure he is a fit but, the Jays can't give up the assets to land Price and be a WS contender without spending well beyond a projected payroll of $150M (+$30M from 2013). Talent needs to be found, and added, another way.
  7. No one will remember Selig as the commissioner that cleaned up baseball, simply because he hasn't cleaned up the game. There are still lots of players violating the MLB drug policy and there will be when Bud retires. Selig will always be remembered as the commissioner of the steroid era. The feud with A-Rod has very little to do with Selig's legacy and much more to do with A-Rod's. This is a man fighting to preserve his reputation, fortune and legacy. He is going to fight the MLB every step of the way to protect his best interests. However, lets not forget A-Rod did take PEDs and is probably guilty of much more cheating than he has admitted. This is about A-Rod making as much money as possible before he retires and hopefully getting into the HOF.
  8. Back-to-back on the road... It's normal to see the back-up get the start in this situation and as a bonus it's a good opportunity to get Bernier an early look. I'm sure Reimer will get the start Saturday at home and if he continues to perform well Tuesday as well.
  9. Beeston and Gillick added Winfield and Morris in the off-season before '92, in '93 they signed Paul Molitor and Dave Stewart. As much as AA is in charge, Beeston is steering the ship. We know there was funds to add at the deadline. We also know that payrolls are trending upwards across baseball. There were some hints they will add in AA's early-August media scrum. AA on how to improve given payroll constraints; AA on payroll; There will be changes in the off-season. With a big payroll bump this team has the core to contend. I'm excited to see what AA and Beeston can get done.
  10. AA has said he wants to improve the rotation, saying he needs to add a piece or two for months and again earlier today. They've been scouting Garza all season long. If the money is right they'll make an offer. McCann is a long shot but, he would help this team more than any free agent on the market.
  11. Garza was traded so there is no compensation possible. Depending on his demands I could see Ruiz getting one as well.
  12. I also disagree with this part of the original Fangraphs article by Marc Hulet that was under review; I'm not disappointed with the 2013 draft. I think AA got a fair bit of talent in a weak draft. I'm expecting a great draft in 2014 with two top 12 picks in a stronger draft.
  13. Check out this sticky thread; http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/83-Toronto-Blue-Jays-Contracts-and-Payroll
  14. Thanks for sharing Frag. I would agree that Norris stock is on the rise. Norris has dominant stuff from the left side. If he can keep the ball down he will have a long MLB career. The velo and breaking stuff are there, his stock will keep going up as long as his BB-rate keeps dropping.
  15. Hate to break the news but at this point Blacker is kind of s*** too. He's barely a top 4 guy in the AHL. Both of them could sit in the press box or on the very end of the bench and it would be fine but, it's a better role for Holzer as Blacker is still improving in the AHL.
  16. Rielly will get at least 9 games. Blacker isn't a better option tyhan Holzer at this point, especially not as the guy in the press box. It looks like the LEafs are trying to send Liles down, I'm hoping someone picks him up.
  17. Some teams are going to value him higher than that. If there are teams offering up top 20 guys in a similar package then I doubt the Jays have a shot. Depending on the number of top flight pitchers moved the Jays might have a chance. I also highly doubt Wacha, Walker or Taillon are going anywhere. I could see Iwakuma or Paxton being moved though.
  18. If you pay them they will come. I doubt Cano would turn down $305M from the Jays or anyone else.
  19. Latos for Alonso + Grandal + Boxberger + Volquez Rasmus > Volquez + Grandal + Boxberger Sanchez > Alonso
  20. Those guys were all doing well in the Jays org. Some of them took a step further this year but that doesn't mean they wouldn't have if they were still with the Jays.
  21. Only issue with Price is you're going to have to pay him a lot of money. I'd personally rather just keep the prospects and spend this FA. Go get Choo and McCann and this year's bargain durable mid-rotation guy.
  22. Yup, that's who I would take too. I've always liked binning guys together and letting them pick. Hopefully they pick the wrong one.
  23. Sanchez/Osuna + Nolin/Stroman/Hutchison + Lugo for Price/Sale/Bumgarner way before Sanchez + for Parker.
  24. Although he needs to still refine and harness his stuff Sanchez has better tools than Parker. Sanchez has the plus-plus FB and out true plus out-pitch to be a true ace. I like Parker, who also has good velocity but, he doesn't have the same upside as Sanchez. Don't get me wrong he does have a good shot to be a solid #2, he just doesn't have ace upside IMO. If the Jays are to be successful they need to develop their own star players. Selling off your top prospects for assets with a huge price-tag is an unsustainable strategy. Other organizations have sunk a large amount of money in to these players and have them under control for cheap for many years, they are in no urgency to move them. I'm sure AA could land a guy like Parker but, it will be at the cost of multiple high upside pieces against a GM with a penchant for pilfering talent.
