The Jays should do their due diligence on his health and consult a team of medical professionals before making the move. If everything checks out why wouldn't they go after Headley?
Meh, boder-line 4th OF'er, potential back end reliever and a swing man. Plus it would open up 3 40-man roster spots to help deal with log jam of option-less redundant pieces in AAA.
I'd have to disagree, the Jays' timeline for contention. They shouldn't bring in a AAA player unless the plan is to let the year play out and re-jig things in the off-season. IMO the Cubs' assets that makes the most sense for the Jays are Starlin Castro and EJax. Both can help right now and are on decent contracts.
He's playing terrible/hurt and a half year rental, I wouldn't give them very much for Headley. IMO a few useful MLB pieces in a package, something like Pillar + Drabek + Jenkins, should be enough to get it done and pretty much my limit.
His last 2 AA starts were more promising than his last outing. Not saying that's a significant sample but it'smore than just one start. He's also been decent in AAA outside of his debut.
Additionally I say he hasn't stagnated because his control is improving. He's doing a decent job of keeping the ball down this year and better than at any other point in his career. Needs to command the ball in the zone a lot better though.
It does make the bb rate worse and his command is terrible but it's improving. I wonder if he'd get more swings if guys knew they might not get another FB. Can also get his CB in the zone regularly so he might be able to increase his walk rate by throwing it more (pure conjecture there).
I'd understand the concern if he was in his mid 20s or stagnated but he's 21 and getting better. Not a top 10 prospect but still a lot to like.
He has a short stride. The arm action is loose and not concerning at all. Actually bodes well for him that he can hit mid 90's so effortlessly. He's had trouble staying down in the zone because he stays upright and didn't get on top of the ball. It's an issue but improving.
Been in a couple reports now. Once was a quote from Sanchez or a coach (I forget which)
From the original post;
In this outing the righty didn’t throw a secondary offering until the fourth inning,
It's an unorthodox delivery but he repeats it and has filthy stuff. Nothing in his mechanics suggests injury concerns or anything like that. So who cares?
He's throwing strictly FBs until the 5th inning of every game. It's no surprise the K rates aren't great when he doesn't get to throw his best swing and miss pitch for over half the game.
Control is trending upwards as well. He's actually able to work in the bottom of the zone consistantly this year.
Obviously done flaws to his game but he's still a very good prospect.
The ability to induce contact in the bottom of the zone is povotal in the AL East. I'm happy is improving. If he continues to improve for 3-4 more seasons (through his age 23 and 24yo seasons) he's going to be dominant in his prime.
Salary dump in order to maintain payroll and hopefully add a decent pitcher.Adding. a pitcher pushes Happ to the BP and diminishes his valuue to the Jays.
Doeant have to be Happ though. Headley would be an upgrade so why not add him for redundant pieces that are easily replaceable in FA.
If he stays healthy he could be a great high leverage reliever.
FWIW the Jays aren't letting him throw secondaries until the 5th in order to get him more FB reps and improve his command. I'm curious to see what his numbers look like when the training wheels come off.
You have to keep in mind these are the HOU's notes not the Jays' notes. There is a high probability that there is misinterpretation, misdirection or bias in all of the notes.
You'll care when he can't make routine plays everyday. You'll care even more with all the DPs he is unable to turn.
There are other options out there and the last thing the Jays need is another all bat player with s***** D.
