  1. The point here is that Ackley is like Gose to them... They still can dream on him, but he really doesn't have much value. Edit: And this is why I should always refresh the page before replying...
  2. I think they're looking at guys who can be traded... And frankly, even if you could trade Kalfus by the RULES, you still can't trade him.
  3. And even if he does do that, JJ on a 1 year, $14M contract isn't the worst thing that could happen, he's definitely a better pitcher than what he's provided this year.
  4. Ackley's stock has definitely fallen, and AA had better not be paying as though it hadn't...
  5. This is the worst idea I've ever heard...
  6. JJ will be traded if the return is better than the potential of a 1st round draft pick... Bonifacio probably won't be DFA'd, I just cannot see AA giving up on him (for nothing, he could possibly spin a trade as "the right move", however)
  7. I doubt Happ spends any time in the minors when he's ready to come back, he was our best pitcher 'til he got hurt and it's not like the rest of our rotation is amazing.
  8. See, the problem is that you're seeing it as "The Jays want these guys for the future, so this is what they'll have to give up" as opposed to "These teams need something RIGHT NOW to help them win this year, so this is what they'll have to give up." A guy like Janssen has a LOT of value to a team that feels they need a bullpen piece to try to win it all this year (even if you discount the ridiculous "closer" factor, his numbers and performance have been great), so AA has the upper hand in any negotiations about him.
  9. Well, I think strategy comes into play on that... If your "best player available" isn't on other teams' boards for another few rounds and you think you can wait on them, then maybe you move some pieces around to get guys you want that you think will go sooner. Obviously Telez isn't a 30th round talent, but AA figured he could wait that long to snag him. The actual bonus paid out will show how highly regarded AA (and the scouts) find these guys. I don't really care how much money it takes, I want a guy with the name "Rowdy" in the system!
  10. If I were the Jays at this point, I'd be trying to win every game for the rest of the year and then the world series and then go 162-0 in 2014... But then again, I'm hardly a strategist...
  11. This is why I have issue with adding a guy to the 40 man to promote him for one start, or a week of ABs (I'm looking at you, people suggesting we bring Pillar up...) The 40 man roster can quickly become a mess that way. Frankly, moving Oliver should be a no-brainer (even if we were buyers, 4 lefties in the pen is unnecessary and you can probably get a semi-valuable piece for Oliver in addition to clearing a spot on the 40 and 25 man rosters). Loup and Wagner have been great, but both have options. Redmond will obviously be going down... I would be truly happy if the Jays could get ANYTHING for Bonifacio, I hate losing assets for nothing, but it's very hard to call him an "asset" anyway. I'm not terribly concerned about making space for Melky, as I think an extended stay on the DL would be the best thing for him (and the team). He was not very good over the last month+, and much of that can be attributed to his bum legs (and possibly his "nah brah, I'm not on roids!" thing...)
  12. ... Please qualify that, because "Let's trade prospects for rental guys at the deadline!" is "a move". I would prefer no move to that move.
  13. Something has to give, pitching in game situations clearly isn't helping. He needs more coaching, though the "Velocity Program" doesn't seem to target his particular issues. I'd put him on the program (because I want everyone in the system to have heavy balls!) but it's going to have to be coupled with other stuff.
  14. Probably, but I'd rather they not rush him.
  15. I've heard the DeRosa gives all his teammates Vetrin Presents, they'd probably like that for clubhouse chemistry.
  16. I would be willing to also include Melky Cabrera in the deal, and possibly eat some of his salary if they'd throw in a prospect or a young pitcher...
  17. Is this some sort of haiku variant of which I am not aware?
  18. I think he's just trolling this board at this point...
  19. Darvish's price tag including the posting fee works out to $18M/year... We're paying $11M this year, $18M next yer and $19M in 2 years for Mark Buehrle, and $36M for 3 years of Dickey... I don't think that's a franchise crippling move by any stretch.
  20. I'm probably about about 200 votes... I know, way not as awesome as some of you, but I'm using the intertubes, not the textamajig.
  21. Phil Hughes only goes 4 innings... Hurt, or just the Yanks realizing that he's not all that good?
  22. Or Chapman, or Darvish...
