    Two minor things... 1) You do have to do some scouting to know which players you want from other teams' systems, and Gose was also not the initial player, he the result of 2 additional trades from that deal. 2) No way Bryant was signing, that just wasn't going to happen no matter what.

    If he gets Telez and Brentz I'm pretty okay with this draft... Also, next year's draft is supposed to be better so 10th overall (or 11th...) should be a better player than Bickford.

    Stroman threw 105 pitches in 7 innings in his July 7th start... Sounds pretty stretched out to me!

    The only player I can recall anyone ever saying didn't care to learn the language was that mericon, Escobar.

    Cecil has had 2 poorish outings in a row, I don't know that I would call that "regression". Janssen has pitched 2 innings in July after a stellar June... I'm not ready to throw these guys to the wolves just yet. Even if Delebar were to be moved to starting, it certainly wouldn't be during the season... Also, were you suggesting Stroman be called up for the pen? If he comes up, I hope it's as a starter, the Jays pen is excellent, the rotation is where the help is needed (though, our patchwork guys have been better than the rotation locks for the most part...)

    The question is, do you prefer this strategy to the predecessors "low upside college guys who are sure to make the majors, but have virtually no impact once there" strategy? Granted we got a few solid, if unspectacular, pieces that way, but there hasn't been enough time to see what any of these HS pitchers will develop into. (I fear we've traded away the best of the lot already, however...)

    If Kirk's proposal of Bonifacio and a "meh" prospect gets Young as a half-year rental, I do that just to actually get some kind of return for Bonifacio. I would prefer to deal him for a piece that can help in the future, but it wouldn't so bad to do some addition by subtraction here (and Young would likely be useful this year, for whatever that winds up being worth.)

    Yeah, there's no way I could do Wilner's job dealing with people like this... I'd drink even more, curse like a drunken sailor on the air and probably murder my call screener...

    When he joined the Jays, Alex Gonzalez was our everyday shortstop. There's a reasonable case to be made the Mike McDonald could have been better then Alex Gonzalez.
