    That was my point... I don't think there's a guy we could get for $14M that would be an upgrade over Johnson. Anyone who would be an upgrade would cost significantly more.

    Are you going to find a better use of that $14M? If so, then by all means do it, but I'm not convinced that there's another asset (pitcher or otherwise) that we could get at that price that would be as good as Johnson could be. Right now, our 2014 rotation is 3 bottom of the rotation starters and hope.

Because that's basically the level at which you are operating, the level of kindergarten humour.

    I sincerely hope he does get hit with another massive suspension, and I hope that AA was smart enough to include "you get suspended for drugs and this contract is void" clause. Not that we have any superior options to Melky in LF, but hopefully we can find one on the open market during the off season without an incumbent to burden the search

    The big money that Rogers sees from the Jays is the free advertising. That's where the bottom line from this team comes from, which is why there won't ever be "win now or you're fired" pressure from Rogers directly.

    Not big money, AND the only cost is money. We wouldn't have to brutalize our poor farm system for a clear upgrade over Bonifacio at the very least.

    I don't think they'll be able to fill any of their needs by trading Lind, his value simply isn't that high. Keeping Melky over Lind is PROBABLY (again, maddeningly inconsistent) the wrong move from a baseball standpoint, even factoring in contracts. I would be perfectly happy if we were able to sign JJ to a reasonable extension. It would be ludicrous to think that he's as bad as he's been this year, he's had a fantastic career thus far (minus the injuries) and I expect that he'll return to at least partial form no matter where he winds up next year. If he takes the qualifying offer he'll no doubt receive, I would be totally fine with that. If AA works out a 3 year, $30M deal (with AA's customary 800 team options) I would be even happier. Of course, if he turns him into Jurickson Profar or someone similar I would tongue bathe his *******.
