    Melky from 2009-2013 7.3 fWAR (with 2 seasons of negative fWAR), Martin from 2009-2013 12.1 fWAR (with 0 seasons of negative fWAR).

    But we need someone to play LF, that's the whole point of getting Melky. If he can't play LF then he's sort of useless to us as an everyday player. Also, you can't say "you know what you get with Melky" and then use a 1 year sample size. He was pretty bad in 2013, probably mostly due to injury, but who's to say he's not injured again? Melky isn't a guy I'd be comfortable at more than 3 years, $13M AAV, and that's pretty much about the high end of where I think he helps the team more than hurting them by taking payroll away that could be used on better pieces.

    I don't really know if Travis can be counted on for much versatility. He was briefly put into centre because he was totally blocked at 2B, I don't think he profiles as a particularly good defender anywhere but 2B, though someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

    A below average bat, with a below average glove signed to a pretty poor contract? Where do we sign?

    Yeah, that's sort of the impression I get about Aoki. A defensive upgrade over Melky and a lateral move (at best) with the bat. He'll probably be somewhere between Mekly 2013 and Melky 2014 with the bat, IMO; wouldn't shock me totally if he put up a better season with the bat than Melky in 2015, but I wouldn't bank on that either.

    Obvious upgrade over our current situation, one of the few FA OFs available, and not expected to break the bank. He's plausible, and an upgrade, that's why people would like him. EDIT: And last year we had a horrible defender with no power in LF and a lot of people are trying to bring him back at twice what Aoki will cost... (Also, this is the first I've heard Aoki's D described as "horrible".)

    I really don't see a situation where both Estrada and Happ are traded. Redmond has done a fine job in his role, but I'd be more comfortable with 2 swing men. Smoak intrigues me, but it's probably just his prospect pedigree colouring my opinion of him. Same reason I really liked the Reimold pickup last year.
