  1. Damn, that's pretty sweet for the Giants, depending on how much cash they sent back... I think his salary is like $12M?
  2. Nobody here is targeting Happ, the goal there is the piece(s) that come back with him. I don't want EE anywhere near this team (unless he surprise retires and comes in as a coach of some kind maybe?) but if Happ comes with an attractive secondary piece, I'd make room for him.
  3. Todd's never heard of him, despite his top 74,000 prospect lists, so he's useless.
  4. Strasburg was never going to sign with the Jays, and he's literally the only significant piece that's currently off the table. But I'll be waiting for your identical post after Cole is signed (spoiler alert: he's not signing with the Jays either...)
  5. No chance. The Blue Jays are FAR more valuable to Rogers than they are to anyone else, it's free (and reported at way below market value) content for their myriad sports stations. If they sold the team, they'd have to pay for the TV rights at market value, or just give up and become the curling, darts, and poker channel(s). Also, I don't think most of the rest of the comment tracks either, but... y'know.
  6. They were 15 games below .500 last season, I think it's extremely plausible that they win 15 more games in 2020 even without ANY major additions. I would be extremely annoyed if they made no major additions, but I mean, even if Vladdy just hits the way we expected him to in 2019 we're halfway there.
  7. We'll know we don't land him when some random dude from New Hampshire says we are...
  8. https://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=sa503397&position=P Assume that's him, looks like he's worked as a starter in the past, but most likely on board as a reliever.
  9. Arm looks good from the video, and on a minor league deal there's literally no risk here. Excellent move! Anyone know anything about him?
  10. Yeah, I can't see a world where Ryu is worth $30M. $20M is in the ballpark of where I'd go on him, depending on term.
  11. I'm not totally up on the posting fee system as it currently stands, but I understand it's not as nuts as it was in the Disuke and Darvish times... But I'm still not sure you pay a posting fee and only wind up with a 2 year contract outta the deal...
  12. I'd probably just go with an internal option rather than settling for Thames. I don't expect a lot from Rowdy, but I'd give even odds that he puts up as good a season as Thames in 2020 in the same playing time.
  13. He was my first choice (of the reasonable choices) to grab for 1B, so I'd be down.
  14. Jays likely have a pretty good position claiming Villar, right? (I believe it's crappiest record first). I say claim him, pay his salary then entertain trade offers for the rest of the off season, or just play him in 2020. I bet his trade value picks up closer to spring training when injuries and s*** happen, but worst case scenario you've got a guy who just put up 4WAR for $10M, which ain't nothin' to sneeze at.
  15. I didn't see it mentioned here, but apparently we traded Justin Shafer to the Reds for cash. I mean, not really a big deal, but it's technically news.
  16. This s***** troll was predicted by glory here. 0/10 trolling.
  17. Good job ignoring my larger point for a sub-par one-liner.
  18. I'm not a Tellez believer (though, I suspect once all is said and done, the numbers between EE and Telez probably won't be that dissimilar in 2020), but I'm also not a believer in a bat only guy who's almost as old as I am. Basically, there's no upside to EE, you're going to get somewhere in the neighbourhood of 2 WAR at best from him AT BEST, and honestly I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that between guys like Fisher, Hernandez, Grichuk, McKinney, and Drury (and maybe Tellez), one or more of them is going to put up numbers better than that. I really don't like the idea of a full-time DH on this team when there are so many question marks from guys who might contribute beyond 2020. At this point, I'd like to see Fisher, McKinney, and Drury jettisoned into the sun, but if I had my choice between one of them and the known commodity that is EE, I'd rather see any of them (and others, or other potential FAs) in the lineup. I'm not totally writing off 2020, but I don't expect to see a playoff run, and I'd rather gauge what we may have in the future rather than getting all nostalgic for what we had in the past.
  19. This is based on....? If there were not 40 or 26 (that's going to take some time to get used to) man roster concerns, sure. There are, however. I honestly think there's more value in rotating our position players through DH as needed than there is having a full time DH. And no, Edwin is not a 1B, c'mon.
  20. As I've said the other thousand times this has come up, hard no. Late 30s, DH only (limiting the flexibility of the roster) and just not where I'd spend the team's resources.
  21. I bet that's what the Yankees are trying to pull, but I can't imagine the MLB will just okay that before hearings/arbitration... Though, they did let them build that abomination of a stadium... The Yankees get whatever they want, sadly.
  22. I don't hate the idea of them giving Valera a bit of a look, but Urena needs to go for sure.
  23. Are they not at the point where they can put people back on the 60 day IL?
  24. Has anyone posted a list of who is at risk/a possibility to be taken from the Jays?
  25. I still think we could have snagged a 3rd piece, but the main parts look satisfactory.
