  1. We could stick w/ Japanese guys and make a bit of a push for Shogo Akiyama. Not a huge bat, but he is LF with speed and is a natural CF. Smoak is a no for me, I think the team should be looking at positional flexibility, or at least considering it. I don't want an "everyday 1B" type.
  2. My thought is that he's got the body type where he SHOULD have a beast of a fastball, and for me he's the most likely to tweak/change something in his delivery to unlock front-of-the-rotation stuff. I don't think it's likely to happen, but I don't think it's likely for SRF or Boureki or whomever (Of that group, I think Kay's probably the most likely to have the best career, but he probably caps out as a good #3 even in the best case scenario.)
  3. Yeah, we absolutely should have outbid Boston for Price... That wouldn't have crippled the franchise or anything
  4. Yeah, we absolutely should have outbid Boston for Price... That wouldn't have crippled the franchise or anything
  5. Zoinks is the guy with all the physical tools to be a beast of a pitcher, I doubt it happens given how it's gone so far, but if one guy was going to "click" and become a front-line guy, it's probably him.
  6. Yeah, I'm a little uncomfortable with that 4th year, which is why I'm pretty sure that's what it will take to get him. If we come in at 4/$80M I think that's the sweet spot of what it would take to get him, and where we'd be getting value.
  7. There was an article on mlb.com that listed us as one of the teams in the mix around the time of the original tweet.
  8. Excellent, so my plan to sell home grown to the Jays minor leaguers will work perfectly!
  9. Yeah, and the back and knee injuries were expected because he was 38. DON'T f***ING EXPECT SOMEONE IN THEIR LATE THIRTIES TO BE f***ING RELIABLE HEALTH WISE f***, I'm 41, and I feel like I'm going to die every single morning when I wake up. This isn't shocking.
  10. If they move Jansen it had better be for a package that makes everyone go "HOLY f***, DOES THAT GM HAVE BRAIN DAMAGE?" otherwise it just doesn't make sense... Particularly after non-tendering Maile (not that a McGuire/Maile tandem is going to make anyone tingly in their down there places...)
  11. Correct. The thing is, Boras doesn't get to decide the market for his players, so if nobody is going to give his players a shitload of money, he can't magically make that happen. Aaron Sanchez is a Boras client, he's not going to get a Cole contract, even though Boras would really like that.
  12. C'mon, you can't say "trending up" when you're talking about a 38 year old. Health alone there were enough red flags to decorate the Kremlin during Stalin Appreciation Day.
  13. Of the available free agent starters, he is the best option that the Jays could be reasonably expected to pursue. It's not really that complicated.
  14. You hate us because we're objectively superior to you, that's painfully obvious...
  15. Todd: Shatkins doesn't do anything at all! Shatkins: Signs Roark Todd: Shatkins doesn't do anything at all!
  16. Get ahead of the curve... Pearson
  17. So does Teo, and Kole's wRC+ for the past few years: 2014 124 2015 103 2016 117 2017 97 2018 79 2019 108 I just don't see that as an upgrade over our Grichuk/Teo/Gurriel for our corner OFs. And we're likely going to keep Fisher on the roster all year so that's 4 OFs already and no REAL CF (Teo and Grichuk can both play CF passably, but they're certainly not outstanding...)
  18. I don't see how adding a non CF OF with a ~100wRC+ bat is something the Jays should do. I mean, "Non CF OF with ~100wRC+ bat" describes at least 15 guys in our system already... Or, y'know, a couple anyway.
  19. He was better than any pitcher on the team last year not named Stroman, so like... You're objectively wrong?
  20. Ideally they've front-loaded it a bit, but I don't see an issue with a $12M AAV for Roark. Can pitch a good number of innings, pretty decent K/BB rate, probably wind up ~2 WAR.
  21. Your first winter meetings, huh Todd? It's an excuse for execs to jerk each other off and get loaded in a hotel bar, like literally every conference ever in the history of conferences.
  22. This is such a hockey fan way of looking at baseball... You have to be a very bad team to miss the playoffs in hockey, you can be a really good baseball team and miss the playoffs consistently. Jays have one of, if not the, best young cores in the sport, they have the payroll flexibility to do pretty much whatever they want (they absolutely could have matched the Yankees deal on Cole, but I'm pretty glad that they didn't, that deal has "David Price's Red Sox contract" written all over it...) AA was a fine GM, but outside of the Donaldson deal most of his "big splashes" ended up being pretty meh overall. But hey, he's a GOOD CANADIAN BOY, right?
  23. Edwin's OBP was .344 last year, and it's .352 for his career. That's not why he shouldn't be on the team. Positional flexibility is why he shouldn't be on the team. He'd be a fine guy to have as a pinch hitter in the NL, or on a team where a strict DH was needed on a 1 year deal. The Jays are neither of those things.
  24. Yoshi would make Edwin superfluous. Also, several people on the team already make Edwin superfluous. They should absolutely not sign Edwin.
  25. $14M for Didi...
