  1. More to the point, Stripling isn't signing anywhere to be a swingman... He's shown that he can start, and starters get PAID.
  2. He's going to bring them down from the inside....
  3. Yeah, he'll be signing with a team that guarantees him a starting role for sure.
  4. This is giving the MLB a lot of benefit of the doubt that I'm not altogether sure they've earned. Yankees are a cash cow for the MLB, particularly when they're doing well, it would not surprise me at all that they try to give the team an edge.
  5. He's a San Fran boy, so there's a lot to be said about playing for the team you grew up watching. Obviously he made the other choice, but I could have seen it going either way. When you make that much money, you're just collecting money, you couldn't possibly ever spend it all. I bet there will be lots of IL time between those 3 players.
  6. I doubt they get him, but they would absolutely love to have him. If Shatkins are worried about run prevention above all else to the point where they're turning down a guy who has averaged 4.1 WAR/year in his 3 full seasons, then they are doing a terrible job.
  7. Schilling is an *******, and it REALLY bothers him that he's not in the hall, so that's just funny. Put him in after he dies, so he can literally die mad about it.
  8. Yeah, I think I move Martinez here, but I don't know about Tiedemann. He seems special.
  9. Yeah, that tracks with what I'd expect that cadre to understand about it...
  10. I'm out on Verlander at anything approaching that cost/term. I'm fine with 4th OF Nathan Lukes, but I'm not super keen on Starting CF Nathan Lukes.
  11. The what?
  12. There are aspects to value other than years of control. Janssen is a good bet to be a very solid catcher on both sides of the ball, with the caveat that he has been injury prone. Both of those things affect his value more than his years of control do. Also, I probably do the trade, but I'd try to move a prospect instead of Cimber, because of where the team is right now.
  13. I had a Don Mattingly poster on my wall when I was a child. That is my only comment on this.
  14. I wholeheartedly agree, we're talking about a very consistent starter throughout his career; he should be a very solid #3 based on career numbers, and he's still only 28. 2021 was a really strange outlier for him, by FAR his worst numbers since his rookie season.
  15. That was the off-season where I got back into the Jays. The strike in 94 killed my interest (as it did for many) until this.
  16. Berrios sneaks in there as the only Blue Jay (not even Gausman's insane splitter? Okay Statcast!)...
  17. No labour dispute on the horizon to really f*** things up, so that's a bonus this season.
  18. In relatively inconsequential news, Whit Merrifield will be wearing #15 for the Jays next season. No, I don't remember what number he wore last season.
  19. If this is the case, it will be because targets were missed, not because the front office is totally fine with an OF of Springer, Gurriel, and Lukes. Everyone, including the front office, would see that as a failure. The plan is to acquire at least one other outfielder, and you don't have to be Kreskin (hi other old people!) to see that.
  20. And that's why we should have held on to Kawasaki forever!
  21. Picked Belly, but Gallo would also intrigue me. I think an old guy who gets most of his value from his legs is a sketchy investment (though, I wouldn't complain were he in the Zimmer role). I don't think Nimmo fits in with the budget, unless you're not at all interested in signing the Vlads and Bos of the world.
  22. Sounds like he has fun while playing, so clearly not a winner.
  23. This team is going to score runs, so I'm honestly less worried about replacing Teo's bat than many seem to be. We had 7 players with at least 120 games and at least 114 wRC+ We also had Jansen (140), Moreno (113) and Merrifield (119) who contributed. Losing Teo's bat isn't ideal, but even with his 129 wRC+, he only managed 2.4 WAR, and there are lots of ways to replace that 2.4 WAR (Bellinger was 1.7 last year with an 83 wRC+ for example). I'm not super keen on taking a hacksaw to the lineup, and we still probably see a catcher moved so we'll lose something there, but hitting wasn't the team's problem and losing Teo probably won't hurt all that much depending on who we add as a CF.
  24. Who knows, but he was better last year than the year before, and projections have him as an average bat. Not for nothin', but his BABIP the last 3 years is .245, .196(!), .255. I expect with the shift ban that should rise at least somewhat, he's a career > 45% pull hitter.
