    Good thing you aren't making the decisions. Tolleson/Kawasaki platoon instead of Travis sounds pretty depressing. No thank you to that idea. The team was put together fairly well. This is the AL with DHs and our lineup is full of guys who can handle their own pretty well against pitching from either side. There really isn't going to be much need for pinch hitters or late inning defensive replacements (since they wouldn't do that for Reyes anyway), so the bench is fine. If there is an injury then Gibbons patches things up for half a game and they call someone up for the next, not a big deal.

    I don't think Smoak or Barton should have played their way out of a job with how they've done. There is no way that I can imagine Navarro having a better offensive season that Smoak, so I don't know why we wouldn't improve the 1B defense while we're at it and just put him in there against righties.

    Wine said his split finger hasn't had the same break and his fastball command doesn't look great. Numbers don't mean much in ST, I'm sure the Jays are going by look. After he was so terrible last season, if the Jays don't like what they see then they did the right thing. Too bad because I was hoping before ST he could setup or even close if he looked like 2013 Delabar.

    MoustakAZ hits like 20 HR and bats like .800 each spring and it doesn't mean much. Neither does Smoak's #s. Way more concerned from just hearing some people on here saying how slow his bat speed looks.

    Everything I read about Stroman made me think he could be one of the best pitchers in baseball. I really think Norris will be fantastic as well. Sanchez is almost as good as a bust to me already. Hutch will be solid but HOF caliber player obviously.

    Nobody can predict what a year off for any pitcher, let alone one as young as Stroman, will do to his career/development. After reading articles the last couple months that objectively show that he might not just be good and might actually be our first true stud/ace pitcher since Halladay, I want to go jump off of something right now.

    I know it has been repeated but AA is the guy who got EE (worked out that trade). It was admitted by JP that AA made that deal happen before EE became a stud. Say what you want about EE going to waivers, but AA clearly believed and got him back. AA said each new year about the potential they thought he had. I like this signing. It'd be cool to give him a chance to compete for a job. I like that he really doesn't strike out a crazy high amount. If he walked a bit more he'd be pretty close to Jose Abreu with his k/bb ratios. He isn't like a Francisco who can hardly make contact with the ball. I like the idea of Smoak more but I can see the thinking of letting Bautista and EE get around this guy and see if there could be an influence there.

    There is no team that I have ever been on that wouldn't eventually tease a guy for injuring himself this way. There is a difference between laughing at somebody immediately when it happens, and teasing a guy later. This is sports and there is no way Izturis would be butthurt if the guys on the team poked a bit of fun at the situation after the fact. Obviously you''d wait a bit, but come on. Your teammate can still tell you don't want them to be injured and wish they were playing even if you tease them.

    I'm excited to see the new guys we got, but after years of trying to have an optimistic outlook at the beginning of the past seasons, this season all I can notice are the holes. The outfield and middle infield will be terrible to watch once the inevitable injuries start to hit us. Past years I would just decide to be really optimistic on guys like Travis saving us, but it never happens. I expect Pompey to also start off very poorly. We still haven't had a prospect in a very, very long time that has come up and shown he can consistently hit. Seriously, Adam Lind is about the last decent hitting player I remember coming through our system.

    I used to agree with you. There was a time I'd spend tons of time each day discussing things on here. Then I realized that there are some pretty cool other things to do in the world. 100% you should discuss James Shields and be a fan, but once is enough. He has been talked about at length this summer. The only reason this thread exists is because of a rumor days after our GM pretty much outright shot down the possibility of this happening. I get why the rumor was posted and appreciate the people who post that stuff, but five more pages on Shields? Wouldn't you rather look and come up with a completely new scenario that would be a possibility?

    People really believe this has any chance of happening, whatsoever? AA has all but squashed this idea already, not to mention that, as he continuously says, if the Jays are linked to a player repeatedly in the media, it's most likely fabricated. I'd be completely shocked. I know it is quiet these days and boring, but this rumor hardly deserves to be discussed.
