  1. Just a bit of a rant. Some of the players on the bench i.e., Edwin don't seem too enthused tonight during this great game. These guys better not be sulking just because their friend got traded. Bautista has made borderline comments in the past about management needing to go for it, now they get rid of a player who has cost the Jays games this year and replaced him with a star and they seem to be pouting a bit. Bautista gets on my nerves sometimes for being a whiner, although he has really improved with arguing balls and strikes. It would be nice though still if the crowd gives him some good cheers and makes him feel appreciated. Maybe seeing the fans are happy to see Reyes go led to his "if anyone cares" comment, but fans never really took to Reyes. A lot were more excited for Johnson than Reyes then Reyes got hurt immediately. Bautista should be celebrated here though he gave us many good years, he might be missing the love with Donaldson and Tulo getting so much attention. I dunno what I'm saying. I really like seeing when the fans treat the players well though. Toronto needs things to help with the rep to keep guys hers.
  2. I was assuming we could get a good enough pitcher the the one extra year would be worth sacrificing.
  3. Mets looking for hitting. What if we could swing a deal with EE. Or even swing one for Upton and trade Bautista
  4. Still think Castro is the one that will really hurt. He looked great to me despite results. Expect him to be a stud. Despite that I am excited for the deal. Would be cool is we could deal EE for something useful and then get some aging decent hitter for cheap on a rental for the rest of the year to DH.
  5. We will really be screwed next year when MB leaves. We really need Norris to step up and somebody (maybe Osuna) to be moved to the rotation. We definitely gave up two great pitching prospects but it is pretty great we got Tulo and maybe got some extra money to spend.
  6. Wow. I really think people are way underrating Castro. He is really going to be a great pitcher and we will probably really regret losing him. People forgetting how young he is. But Tulo!!!! And no more Reyes!!
  7. One thing that the board was pretty unanimous on was that the large majority of us could see, easily, that Syndergaard seemed like a better guy to keep than Sanchez. We can't know for sure but seemed the organizational never really caught on to that.
  8. Not that I think they'd do it, but a one year contract vs a 3 year contract can mean a big difference, especially since it is doubtful the Padres make the playoffs next year either. Difference is Shields is a lot closer to worth his contract than Reyes.
  9. I think we have a chance this year but I don't think any moves we make would necessarily put us over the top so I'd love to see a re-tooling for next year. Sadly it will be hard enough just to replace MB. I think we should get Shields as his price in prospects should not be much, then really push for one more controllable pitcher. Trade Dickey for anything we could get or salary relief and trade EE. I would say trade Reyes for anything but I don't think that will happen.
  10. Why the he'll can't Smoak play more than one day at a time when he is the best option vs. RHP. This is really getting ridiculous. Start playing each game to win ffs.
  11. These trade deadlines and winter meetings etc... are so much more dull with this board's desire to keep everything in one thread.
  12. People here overestimating what rentals USUALLY get traded for.
  13. Are you guys really wanting to trade actual top prospects for these guys? Papelbon? God I hope you guys are talking about the Phillips taking on all of both contracts of we are giving up all those prospects.
  14. What kind of logic is this? Players slumping will continue to slump and players overperforming will begin to slump. Our offense has been the best in the league with EE not hitting well. Nothing tells me Smoak will be worse. I've been pumping Smoak since we got him and the numbers show he should continue. CC and fatty are playing regularly either way. Smoak /Valencia 1B platoon would blow away what EE did in the 1st half. I'm not saying they would for sure be better than EE in the second half but nevertheless it is an option.
  15. Nice to have a day without Reyes.
  16. Team could definitely contend if trading EE for a good pitcher, calling Pompey back up and letting Smoak and Valencia take on 1B. Seems they are going to keep using Fatty and CC anyway so they will be there to DH. EE hasn't done much this year and Smoak has looked really good. I don't doubt EE is obviously the better hitter but there offense would still be top notch now Travis is back.
  17. Why would it be hilarious? Jays very likely went for Shields and he probably wanted no part of them. All players don't sign just for the money. Shield signed a pretty reasonable contract and wanted to play in SD to be near family. It was pretty obvious at the time that even if we had offered him a better contract he'd have likely gone to SD. Unfortunately for him he did not get a no trade claus in his contract. I don't see why acquiring a pitcher that everyone wanted a few months ago would be hilarious. If it is at a reasonable cost and makes the team better it should be celebrated.
  18. Halladay had other medical issues that were stopping him. Plus he couldn't really throw much when he left. There are reports he tried again the other offseason but it didn't work out. It is a nice fantasy though. We all thought Halladay was the type to be able to pitch into his 40s. Think he is 38 now... There would be no end to his legacy if he ever made a comeback and helped the team. Obviously a pipe dream though.
  19. Part of me always wishes he would do this If anyone else can pitch at MB velocity and be successful it would probably be him.
  20. You are annoying. How did you stay off ignore so long? That will be fixed now.
  21. Bet Gibbons realizes this mistake and won't let this happen again in a close game.
  22. Let's stick with the real mistakes, he made enough of them. It was raining pretty good, would have been pretty tough to get a good grip that quickly and make a sweet throw. Would agree if it wasn't raining.
  23. His stance is ridiculous. He's basically doing the splits when he goes to swing the bat, which people watching on TV can't see. Was shocked when I watched them live. Even my wife laughed at it and knew it was ridiculous.
  24. I think Troy Glaus looked better at shortstop than Reyes does now. Don't care what any advanced stats might say, he's brutal.
