  1. http://regressing.deadspin.com/could-modern-medicine-have-saved-bo-jacksons-career-1443105382 It's difficult to tell which examinations Bo underwent, but it's safe to assume he had unfettered access to imaging procedures. What we do know is that his injury caused disruption of blood flow to his femur and avascular necrosis set in. If Jackson were playing today, that period immediately following his injury is when modern medicine could have possibly prolonged his career. Not even necessarily by wiping out the AVN or by catching it early, but by ensuring it never happened in the first place.
  2. He wasn't being serious but it's true that adding players just to replace DTD guys wouldn't necessarily be a good use of your moves (assuming you have bench options). It would mostly be beneficial in September when DTD can mean anything from a single day to the rest of season and beyond.
  3. Beeston said a lot of stuff. Problem was he was talking through his ass.
  4. Anyways... Turning our attention away from mediocre food for a moment. I noticed that Yahoo listed DTDs this year for the first time. Hopefully this means more flexible DL settings in the future. In September, DTD can easily mean out for the season.
  5. "Have It Your Way" is a Burger King slogan. I thought you were more of a McDonald's guy.
  6. Only point of using the DL in September is using the 60 day DL to clear up a 40 man roster spot. No way Donaldson gets put on the 60.
  7. Sports medicine has made a lot of strides since Bo. It's not really a pertinent example in today's climate. It's especially irrelevant when we know so little about Donaldson's injury in the first place.
  8. He's right that Boxy is a jerk. He's wrong about Boxy being wrong.
  9. O.K. Stupid Proboards doesn't update the time of the post when it gets edited: 11. Prospect promotions are basic weekly adds, which are to be processed by owners themselves using the Add Player function in Yahoo. Commissioners may use the Commissioner Tools to add a prospect to a roster only in order to a process a trade. Commissioners will not add a prospect to an owner's roster for the purpose of exceeding their weekly add limit. Boxy is a jerk and I'm right.
  10. Has it been updated? I'm looking at it now and I see no changes.
  11. The majority of fans are casuals and the majority of casual will blame the manager for f***in' everything and never really give them credit for anything short of winning the World Series.
  12. Um... a bit dramatic no?
  13. I know I've definitely done it myself (have a commish add a player for me because I was at my limit). I'm pretty sure others have as well but I'm not going to mine the thread for those precedents. What I do know is that even if it's mostly done in the context of trades, the context is still just the context not the rationale and the rationale is to not freeze minor league assets or unnecessarily punish players for making call-ups. The fact that this is mostly an issue that arises around trades is circumstantial. Anyways, I think the humour of Hurl's post was lost on me and had made me more upset than the situation warrants. I didn't like the way he waved the threat of Silvergunn leaving (seemed pretty unfair, mostly to him) but I guess he was just ribbing him and trolling us and I fell for it hook, line and sucker. Sometimes I take things too literally and I'm a bit volatile ATM TBH. Ultimately, our Lord and Saviour NJH is entitled to act unilaterally on this and I don't think anyone has a problem with that.
  14. What rule change? You're the one who is trying to change the rules. Boxy and I are the ones arguing for the rules the way they are.
  15. What the hell are you talking about? Commishes do this all the time. It's never been a bone of contention until just now.
  16. His point (which isn't moot) is that our paper farm should probably work the same way a mechanical one would probably work, i.e., not count against you move limit. The only reason that farm moves are counting against the limit now is that the players are sitting there in the FA pool when they really shouldn't. It's always been accepted that if the move limits cause a problem (in trade scenarios usually), the commish can just do the add.
  17. Well we have no idea what the settings for such a feature would be. Perhaps they would be counted as weekly moves. Perhaps there would be an option. If the default is that they don't count as weekly moves and it can't be set otherwise than yeah we wouldn't bother enforcing a moves penalty because that would be a huge hassle. Pragmatism before principle.
  18. Just to be clear... Nothing has actually happened right? No commish adds have been made? SilverGunn was just wondering if he was entitled to a free move and everyone is (incorrectly IMO) telling him that he isn't?
  19. That seems reasonable. I wasn't sure if people also wanted to have a set playoff roster with no possibility of MiLB adds at all.
  20. Yes we would use it and if you're larger point is why would we prevent people from using assets they legally own in the playoffs or otherwise, my answer would be that we shouldn't.
  21. This isn't true. I've had it done for me just because I used up my move and if there wasn't a precedent (which there is), you can't just create post facto conditions on commissioner adds when they didn't exist before.
  22. It seems really obvious to me that a commissioner added minor league player is a legal move in the playoffs. I mean perhaps we should have a provision against this but we most plainly do not have such a provision.
