  1. All depends what he puts in it but I don't think it counts as illegal drug paraphernalia per say. Again though I don't know much about it. Someone who's spent some time in the Middle East would know more about it.
  2. I think tobacco or Haschisch but I'm not educated about it either.
  3. Oh, get over yourself already. Nobody has a problem with players playing well. The problem is when the expectation for a player get completely re-written because of success over a small sample size. That's when the SABR stats come out. Not as a way of bashing the player but as a way of keeping expectations realistic.
  4. This is also the time of year where Bautista had his breakout so that's always going to vindicate the most optimistic fans (whether casual or otherwise).
  5. Oh sorry. Got you mixed up with someone else. I have a hard time k eeping everyone straight. Edit: It was Jaysfever. He also has a ton of ineligible guys.
  6. His last usable pitcher was Estrada who he originally got from me but I recently re-acquired for Blackburn/J. Garcia.
  7. What Minor League defensive projections?
  8. Izturis looked like a strong candidate to bounce back offensively from last year's career lows. He's been a good OBP guy in the past. Unfortunately, he followed last year's career lows with even lower career lows this year but no one knew he would be this bad. He was drawing Scutaro comparisons in the off-season.
  9. Mike Piazza probably has the record for lowest drafted player on a prospect list. He went in the 62nd round and he was the Dodgers top prospect and highly ranked overall. I'm not sure where I'd find the exact rankings for those days but from my memory, there was a lot of hype. Wouldn't surprise me if he was top 10 prospect. Edit: Baseball America says he was ranked #38 after the 1992 season. That seems a bit low given that I remember hearing about him before he even played at a time where I knew next to nothing about prospects but I guess his story probably got more attention because of the Lasorda/Dodgers connection (Lasorda being his godfather).
  10. Oh sorry if that came off as if I was implying otherwise. I'm just glad you reminded us is all.
  11. I, for one, didn't realize that though I don't recall missing out on anyone I wanted.
  12. It's a sticky situation for sure. You don't want to block guys just to block guys like this year where a Kawasaki/Derosa platoon would have provided better production then the two guys who got the bulk of the starts. That being said you do ideally want bench players and relievers with options to expand your roster. Goins could be what Kawasaki was this year, a good utility man to call up when you need him but that only works if you're not fielding shittier players on your 25 man roster.
  13. But it's not like you should care about his development. He is a fringy/depth guy anyways. If he's your best option then you really haven't planned very well and you're starting 2014 behind the eight ball.
  14. Why would you give him an opportunity to stick when you control him and he has options? This isn't the Houston Astros. It's not open tryouts. Just because the team blows now, doesn't change the fact that the Jays are in win now mode and eyeing contention in 2014. The opportunity to play should not extend beyond 2013. Guys like Goins and Pillar look like they could provide good insurance in the minors and that's great news but the Jays can't afford to get carried away and have anymore Eric Thames experiments. I'm not saying these guys couldn't work out better than Thames. They very well might but it would be foolish to bank on that no matter how well they play in 2013. One of the things the Jays have lacked in recent years is minor leaguers who can support the Major League team. If they finally have a few guys like that, the worst thing they can do is bump them to the majors.
  15. He still has options, he has a good glove. He has value if you keep him in the minors for emergencies. You basically kill his value if you start making part of your Major League plans.
  16. Actually Baseball America mostly just compiles second-hand information. Law probably gets out to more games than they do.
  17. They won't move Bogaerts permanently to 3B. He is definitely penciled in at SS next year and they have Drew there now. The fact that Iglesias has been on a bit of a tear offensively since joining the Tigers doesn't change what he is, a glove first shortstop and someone who is more valuable to the Tigers than he is to the Red Sox. Now maybe Peavy wasn't the best trade target but I don't really see what's so shocking about moving him per say. He's Hechavarria with more hype.
  18. That sounds about right and the organization had some success putting faith in players such as Encarnacion and Bautista who ended up defiying stats based projections so they're not likely to change their "faith in the player" outlook.
  19. What was your position on Hech?
  20. As does the one year contract thing. Short commitments are desirable.
  21. Yeah the Darvish thing is f***ed. If you're an org that doesn't feel confident that you can get free agents to sign even at the highest price doesn't it behoove you to pounce on that exclusive negotiating window? That's a big reason why they were considered the favourites in the first place. I know AA felt there was too much risk to justify the commitment from ownership but the commitments he eventually did get ownership to make were not any wiser.
  22. lol at you thinking that Beeston has a computer.
  23. It was damned if you do, damned if you don't. Neither one was likely to contribute in 2013. This whole go for broke thing was a half-baked, desperate idea.
