  1. I was impressed when he beat out a double play in Montreal. He really hustled down the line.
  2. Part of the fun of the early season is making knee jerk judgements on a guy based on next to nothing. That Navarro, he just looks like a catcher! I love it. Maybe I will be calling for his job in a month but for now I'll just let myself be easily impressed. He looks like a catcher AND he's a catcher. It's a god damn revolution. A watershed moment.
  3. There's something delightfully old school about a guy who doesn't look like an athlete, much less a pretty boy like Arrencibia but simply looks like a catcher. A guy that no one, including himself, could imagine doing anything else on the field of play (on any field of play) than that job.
  4. So wait a minute... You meant to tell me that Goins' defensive reputation is basically based entirely on last year's sample? That all this time that he's been playing shortstop in the minors he was just adequate? I thought his reputation was at least a much based on excellent shortstop play in the minors not just on his excellent play when he was converted to 2B last year. This is pretty pathetic if true. I thought at the very least Goins could was a good defensive assett at both middle infield positions. Turns out that may not even be true? He's just an average shortstop that stood on his head in a small 2B sample last year. Well that's just peaches. Really glad the team is committed to him.
  5. Fair enough but it seems like he's not really interested in a discussion. He's already come up with a formula to answer his question better than any iddle discussion would and he will just refer to it if anyone says anything different.
  6. Why do you ask questions when you've already calculated your answer?
  7. This reminds me of the line in Chuck Berry's Brown Eyed Handsome Man where the handsome man gets a base hit on a 2-3 count.
  8. Welcome to the new board. It seems like years since I've seen you post.
  9. Rasmus in the two spot against Cobb makes sense.
  10. Only scenario where that small increase is worth it is if you have a hitter with virtually no chance of getting a hit (usually a pitcher). Thole hit like a pitcher last year but you would hope his true talent level is more garden variety mediocre hitter.
  11. I don't think any Gibbons supporter wouldn't sacrifice him if it meant Beeston was gone. I think only maybe a handful of posters wouldn't sacrifice AA as well.
  12. Are you the same vdubmvp that used to post on the old board?
  13. Please. Don't use the play of Jeffress as some sort of bench mark for team discipline. That's on AA for continuing to waste a roster spot on that guy.
  14. Kawaski is perfectly serviceable at shortstop, better than Izturis by far but at bets probably not much better than Reyes. Goins is almost assuredly a better shortstop than him but I guess the team is on pins and needles with Goins. It's so touch and go that he can be a productive major leaguer that they won't introduce any change to his routine at all. It's a shame because Goins's biggest value to the team is as a backup to Reyes not as a starting 2B.
  15. As dumb as Beeston is, I would think he would respect the established division of responsabilities in baseball. Beeston putting pressure for Reyes to play in Montreal seems really eggregious. I think there was a failure to properly assess Reyes' injury. Reyes himself properly factored in the decision a lot more than he should have. He probably told everybody what they wanted to hear and everybody fell in love with the idea that this lineup was finally healty and went along with it. It took 100 games last year before the entire starting lineup actually played together. This year they were so excited to have the lienup healthy from day one that they let a gimpy Reyes play just to make it happen. Talk about hollow victories.
  16. Eww... Turkey Bacon. What an abomination.
  17. Morrow is awesome. Probably my favorite current Blue Jay. It's not his fault he's diabetic and has a harder time staying healthy. I would love a full season of classic Morrow this year.
  18. I don't understand why Goins couldn't play SS and Kawasaki or Getz play 2B. Why is it so damn important to keep Goins at 2B even to the point of calling up a possibly even worse hitter to play SS? If the team doesn't have faith in Goins' glove, why is he even here?
  19. We got dumped on really bad here in New-Brunswick. Some part of the province are out of power. f***in' deppressing.
  20. I have to say I agree with Butera that these little conferences probably waste a lot less time than full blown arguments would plus as an added bonus, the civility it brings to the game probably really annoys the neanderthal set.
  21. You really think Beaston was setting the lineups in Montreal? That would be a pretty fantastical overreach especially for someone as clueless as Beeston.
  22. March? It's April and there's even more snow today than yesterday. There's more snow today than at any point in the winter.
  23. All the flights to Fredericton were cancelled so it's just as well that I drove (I guess).
