  1. I doubt the Jays even made a competitive offer.
  2. Yeah so this guy isn't an A+ prospect but we weren't getting that for Gose anyways. When was the last time AA traded for someone who was legitimately on the upswing career wise? That alone is reason for celebration.
  3. He had a good skill set for a 4th OF but Devon Travis is a starter on this team so it makes a ton of sense.
  4. I guess I'm just being a wet blanket but I kind of feel like a R.I.P. thread isn't really the place for this nonsense.
  5. Remind me again why this thread wasn't closed when we still had the chance?
  6. It's hardly a perfect market. The whims of individual GMs wheigh heavily.
  7. I've made the link but that was before the more complete financial reports came out. Now I blame NextIssue.
  8. Sandoval is worth more to the Giants than to anybody else. That makes the most sense.
  9. IIRC, he's a negative fielder and framer.
  10. Might see Happ for Bastardo? Reliever in line for arb certainly fits the profile of the kind of player that could be obtained in a Happ trade. AA probably wants to bring in a veteran reliever and Bastardo is almost a statistical dead ringer for pre blowup Sergio Santos (although whether that's really a selling point is certainly up for debate). Not sure what kind of interest the Phillies would have in Happ. They did draft and develop him so there might be some attachment on the part of the org.
  11. Two years ago, we were praying for a miracle that some value could be salvaged from the Melky contract. Now that the miracle has actually happened, let's count our blessings and just move on. If we assume both players are essentially DHs (and really anything else is a risky assumption to make), V-Mart is better than Melky. He's older sure but he's a more productive hitter and he's a hell of a lot more consistent too. That being said, I'm not really advocating signing either. I just don't think the assumption that Melky will be more productive and useful than V-Mart because he's younger to be a valid one. It would be one thing if Mekly actually played like he was younger, if he had mobility and athleticism but he doesn't and there's no point in pretending like he does.
  12. Not too surprising. It's been awhile since the blog could be considered relevant. http://blogs.thescore.com/djf/2014/11/11/finally-an-announcement-the-shift-is-on/ More than six years after I was given an opportunity that nobody else would have ever given me, my time with theScore has come to an end. It was a decision made back during the summer, though the company was kind enough to keep me on through the end of the MLB season, so as not to throw the blog into total disarray amid the Jays’ ultimately futile playoff run. My final official day was October 31st, which is why I haven’t been able to post on the site since then, as many of you have noticed. As of today the work I do has a new home, and you will now be able to find it all, exactly as you expect to see it here, at AndrewStoeten.com.
  13. Not a single player accepted the q.o.
  14. It's official Melky has rejected the q.o. http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2014/11/10/7190177/melky-cabrera-turns-down-blue-jays-qualifying-offer
  15. It was in response to an embedded twee saying David Robertson had turned down the Yankees Q.O.
  16. You lose a pick with Melky too though. You lose the pick that someone would give you if they signed him and playing Melky on turf isn't necessarily more desirable.
  17. One year, 2.5 is peanuts for a useful player, even more so for a large pocket team like the Yankees.
  18. Really wouldn't be so bad if the Jays had held on to D'Arnaud. He was the best prospect the Phillies had and he would be a great fit on this team. Gose + Drabek + half of R.A. Dickey really sucks as a return though.
  19. Holy s***... I just realized Wakamatsu is on this, talk about dark horse.
  20. Acta seems like the ideal candidate to me.
