  1. I'm not surprised that Hayhurst would defend Dickey and I agree with most of what he's saying but since Hayhurst is seen as a bad apple himself I don't think this will do anything to change the narrative. It likely only emboldens Dickey's critics.
  2. I don't understand the Navarro to Texas talk. Robinson Chirinos is a much better starting catcher and a much, much better catcher for the money (half mil).
  3. Any pitchers on the trade market? You have to figure an assset like Boogers could land you pretty much any pitcher from a team looking to rebuild.

I watched a fair bit of the Jalen Rose/Rafer Alston Raptors of 2004-2005. I think that qualifies as paying some sort of due.
  5. It's weird. They're reacting like panicky fans. They have lots of young talent. This wave will make adjustments and there's another one right behind it and another one after that. A little patience and some mid tier free agents would have probably been fine. That being said, they have deep pockets and the controllable talent will help offset some of the payroll bloat down the road. They're still in a good situation no matter what. No a lot of teams have their mix of prospect capital and plain old capital.
  6. I don't really understand why a team with such a healthy farm would feel the need to go spend crazy. They had such success in 2013 by acquiring mid-tier veterans on short contracts that you would think they would try to mirror that approach. Cherrington is one of the hardest GMs to figure out.
  7. I think there's a pretty good chance they just dump Estrada. Jaso + salary relief for Lind + Nolin.
  8. Yeah it's kind of a mess roster wise.
  9. I'm guessing the Jays wanted to keep Navarro but will accommodate his trade request. Jaso is a pretty similar player.
  10. Martin is much a better defensive player at his age than Hanley is at his. You shouldn't have to worry about moving Martin down the defensive spectrum any time soon. That's a big difference between the two.
  11. If Sanchez cuts it as a closer instead of a starter, that's not the end of the world. You won't necessarily get something better then that in a trade.

    Yeah that was some s***.
  13. He was very right about Kyle Drabek being garbage but yeah his track record is full of mistakes, most notably Brett Wallace.
  14. I have a lot of conflicted feelings about Keith Law. He's a genuinely interesting guy with very similar interests to mine but his arrogance is often just too much. Frequently, he comes off like a more educated Wilner, more knowledgeable but with the same tendency for condescension. Like Wilner, he's been a very negative influence on Andrew Stoeten (who I used to like). I've stopped following all three because I just couldn't stand their s***** attitudes. All that being said, this is an incredibly dumb suspension from the loathsome suits at ESPN. Curt Shilling's idiotic beliefs about evolution shouldn't go unchallenged because he's a jock. That's f***in' dumb. Law probably wished he took that Astros job now.
  15. FFS, why didn't they just use Kratz?
  16. Wouldn't surprise me if the Rays are being very cheap with this. Those aren't exactly A list candidates.
  17. Hutch just accomplished what people are hoping Sanchez can do. I don't understand how people can in one breath say "imagine what Sanchez could do as a starter" while dismissing what Huch actually did as a starter. Huch isn't some fluke either. He was a much better starting pitcher than Sanchez in the minors too. At some point, results have to start weighing more than prospect hype. Hutch gets results. Sanchez offers the promise of results. The former is more valuable than the later.
  18. Makes a ton of sense which begs the question why don't the Reds give him a chance to re-establish his value before moving him?
  19. Have to wonder what the Reds know about Bruce that we don't. It doesn't make sense to trade him unless you think he's not coming back from whatever happened to him.
  20. Casey had a great run but let's not forget how bad he was last year. Losing him is practically addition by subtraction at this point. Even if he was kept, the Jays would need to find a new closer.
  21. We DIDN'T identify catcher as a position to upgrade.
  22. He could always strike people out. That's a good skill to bank on when looking at a comeback candidate.
  23. Russell? Liriano? So basically we copy Pittsburgh's perfect off-season of two years ago?
