  1. Destroying what's left of his legacy. Hard to believe the same guy was so succesful in Cleveland.
  2. I need to lie down.
  3. The article suggests it might be Showalter which is fine with me. I'd prefer to negotiate with a manager over a front office guy any day. A manager is likely to prefer a piece he can use right away over a piece with more upside.
  4. Liam Hendriks >>> Kyle Drabek Edit: Looks like Roster Ressource has updated their chart to reflect the fact that Hendriks is out of options (like Hurl was saying all along): http://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-toronto-blue-jays/. That hurts his value.
  5. Is Pillar actually a good CF? Is he better there than Aoki? Better than Saunders?
  6. If the Jays traded Pillar for Duquette and spent some money to replace Pillar with Aoki, that would probably give the team a better l/r balance and leave them no worse off on the field.
  7. Steamer Projection is pretty similar to Travis (more power, less OBP, same wOBA) and that's before park adjustments. You would also think Dietrich would have the safer floor.
  8. His power would play much better at Rogers Centre. I'm a fan of his. Have you heard anything to the effect that he might be on the trading block?
  9. Not terrible D, options, some power, no real expectation of playing time. Those are all appealing traits.
  10. How do you go about betting on small sample size success? Do you just assume he'll start hot? I guess if his D is solid he should be at least usable when cold which helps.
  11. Goins would be practically essential as a late inning guy in that scenario. You'd also want to have one of Weeks, Reyes or Encarnacion on the bench or in the DH slot nearly all the time especially against righties when some of the offensive gain gets cancelled out.
  12. I mean I wasn't thinking that far ahead but I agree with what you said. Smoak is hardly a lock for everyday starts at 1B, Navarro should be salary dumped and the fact that Weeks' bat could potentially play at DH gives the team some options to work with. With injuries and what not, you never know exactly how things are going to play out. You don't have to have a 100% clear path. You can at least conceive of ways of getting him into the same lineup with Travis and that's enough for a guy who can be a stop gap for an immediate need. As for the commitment in years, I'm not sure it would take that much to sign him this late into the offseason. I'd prefer to wait it out and offer him a pillow contract like a true stop gap. I think there's a non-negligible chance he accepts that because long term commitments to defensively limited players aren't any more enticing for other teams than they are for the Jays.
  13. Navarro is a platoon DH at most but Weeks is still somewhat decent from his weak side and even better than Navarro from his strong side. Almost certainly better unless they both hit to their 2013 levels (career best for Navarro, career worst for Weeks).
  14. Is it fair to assume that a teenager that is limited defensively will only become more so over time? Seems like a player that young would still have considerable room for improvement athletically but I don't know enough about scouting and development to know if that's a thing that ever actually happens so I'm asking the question in all honesty.
  15. Weeks' bat is solid enough that you might be able to justify giving him DH starts if and when Travis is ready.
  16. There's also Gordon Beckham although I think if there was any truth to the Jays rumoured interest, he would have been acquired by now. Weeks is intriguing. It's hard to believe given how maligned he is but he's actually coming off a 800 OPS season in limited but not insignificant playing time. That surprised the hell out of me when I looked it up.
  17. Santana was so good in his prime, possibly the best player in baseball. It's a shame his career took a bad turn.
  18. Lol, they have gone back and forth so many times over the playing surface at this point and they say the same thing every time. At least now they are acknowledging that they will never find a good substitute for natural grass because it simply doesn't exist.
  19. Saunders isn't elite but he isn't a black hole either. I think it's fair to say he's established as much.
  20. Fun Fact It's Michael De Leon's Birthday!
  21. Or he's simply spending the money already. He wouldn't be the first person to spend money he doesn't yet have. I'm not Angrioter, but I'd hazard a guess that a top prospect in the D.R., especially one widely reported to have an agreement in place, can get credit.
  22. They'd rather run with a guy who's best case scenario is Navarro's bat with worse defense.
  23. Ah young love... I wonder what the girlfriend makes of all this.
  24. I can't think of too many discussions that you would want to preface by a 4 am break-in and the kinds I can think of you probably wouldn't describe as healthy.
  25. They don't make 'em like Dave Stewart anymore. Two-hundred and seventy-five inning pitched with a K/BB under 2. That's pretty much unthinkable in modern baseball. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/stewada01.shtml
