    I doubt the trade for Bautista for Profra makes sense. SS is not a long term hole in the org. Sexy player, but a Bautista trade for other holes would make more sense (ie 2nd base). Maybe we flip Bautista and force someone to take salary (MB?), and then use that space to get Cano. as for trading Bautista, all you have to do is say: "with the emergence of Encarnacion, we thought it was a good time to move Bautista". There are other benefits: I think you would see someone more fitting to take over the leadership position. One of the benefits (amongst some drawbacks) of having Rogers, a media company, own the team, is that they are awesome at PR. Perhaps too good, given the hype of the season. But in the case of Bautista, it helps, because the marketing guys can quickly re-frame the team around an Encarnacion and Reyes, and convince the fans to move on from the Bautista love. How many more dingers does Bautista have in his current contract, anyway? 90 over the three seasons? 80? 100?

    This is the problem when the media empire also owns the team. The PR side of it become a much bigger concern.

    Occam's Razor suggests that it's simply age, although it's probably a combination of factors, like most things. But I think a big part of it is him simply losing it.

    The team would have been better off without the deep pockets of Rogers. It would be continuing to build organically. "All-in" is so easy to screw up.
