Santana isn't that bad. He's kind of old but his contract situation is kind of alright. Seems to be good for 2.5+ WAR per season. If he gets busted for roids again though he's gone for a year.
Assuming we didn't have to give up much I'd take him.
I never realized this but Jose Bautista holds a record by appearing on 5 major league rosters in one season. In 2004 he played for the Orioles, Rays, Royals and Pirates and was briefly on the Mets for about 5 minutes in between trades.
Hill not making his Sunday start. His value has to be in the toilet right now.
They might be able to try and trade him in August I guess but his salary is so low he'd get claimed in a hurry which would limit the A's return.
Stroman is similar to Sanchez. He's never thrown a ton of innings either yet there's no talk of a limit with him. As you said, Dickey is a weak link as well.
If they do acquire Hill they should keep Sanchez in the rotation and do something with one of those two. Probably put Dickey in the pen as the long man. The Dickey-Thole battery though kind of throws a wrinkle in that though.
It's Osuna at the top because he's clearly the best. Then Gibby ranks them in descending order starting with the oldest. Grilli is 39 and 8 months, Benoit just turned 39. So Grilli gets the 8th and Benoit gets the 7th.
Well I read that he was on the verge of being traded. Perhaps as early as tomorrow. But him starting probably means they don't really like their offers right now.
From what I've read on Twitter Gibby's plan is to play him against lefties every time. He'll also give Saunders and Bautista days off at DH by putting Upton and EE in the field together. And Upton likely plays pretty much everyday as a pinch runner or defensive replacement as well according to Gibby.
He's like a win to a win and a half improvement on defense over Bautista or Saunders so I'd prefer he just play everyday but if they want to stroke Smoak by playing him once in a while it's whatever. At least he won't see lefties anymore.
Zeke is pretty much redundant at this point. I guess he can be the poor man's Upton but buried further on the bench. He can pinch run for one of the slow guys and in some circumstances if Upton is already in the game and could pinch hit/defensive replacement if necessary.
He's out of options though I think and he has no trade value. Would be nice if they could trade him to an NL team who views him as a 4th or 5th OF who has 3 years of control and would be willing to give up a rental RP for him.
