    Just submitted my list. It's pretty hard. I can generally get "good looking," "average" or "ugly" down pretty easy. But trying to decide who is 4th best looking vs. 5th best is hard.

    He was really particular about where he played if I remember correctly. Ended up with 52 WAR despite pretty much shutting things down at age 33-34.

    Well Mike Dunn just got 18 mil so be prepared to offer around that or more for Boone Logan. That's a hard pass for me.

    Yeah I agree. When the Brett Cecil's of the world are getting 32 million and the Mike Dunn's are getting 18 I say we just let it ride with Aaron Loup.

    Let's do this, let's go full on Darth Vader and become the villains of MLB. Sign Bautista, trade for Puig and acquire whatever ******* relievers we can. Encourage trash talk, lower beer prices and let's just make headlines regularly. We can be the baseball version of the 1990 Detroit Pistons.

    Yep I agree but the industry consensus at the time was that we signed him for a year too long and it had pretty tepid support on this board. Hindsight is 20/20 but at the time it was a little bit puzzling and with hindsight that one looks like a mistake.

    Let's just complete the full circle and become the ultimate villain that the league needs. Resign Bautista, trade for Puig, lower beer prices and let it rip.

    The smoke right now is that he'll eventually end up back with us. We desperately need his bat.

    A team in that scenario would be better off spreading the money around.

    *plus prospects If you'd rather, delete Biagini entirely and just use prospects. Since they are a WS contender I figured they'd want guys who present current value. We don't really have much of that to give up so I added Biagini to try and sweeten the pot.

    They sent Puig to the minors last year because of a s***** attitude. I personally don't care but his trade value is down because of it. He also hasn't exactly been healthy thus far. I don't think it would take an arm and a leg to get him. I think Biagini and the right combination of prospects could get him.

    Yeah that could happen if he doesn't drop his demands. I could see some team that unrealistically thinks that they have a chance to compete (Rockies, Marlins, Braves, etc.) jumping in and signing him at some point.

    The pick craters Bautista's value more than most players. The pick is worth ~$10 mil so you give him a one year deal and the pick makes him too expensive. He'd want at least the qualifying offer so that'd be roughly 27 million in value given up for one year of Bautista. That's ridiculous. So ideally you need to amortize the pick value over multiple years, probably at least three. Then it's only adding 3.33 mil per year to the deal. That's not that much really. But is giving a 36 year old a 3 year deal smart? Probably not. So what's Shapiro to do? Looking elsewhere is probably the smart move.
