  1. Boxy's one man crusade against Orioles Hangout will forever make me a fan. It's pretty fun and I think it's good for the board to have a healthy rivalry with another board. I also appreciate his candor in the face of the shitlibery that we face in the Politics thread. I can't tell if King is serious with this post but I can never tell if he is. Pretty sure it's a joke. But I like King too he makes me laugh.
  2. It would not shock me to see him get close to 5/100. He had a great year and he's probably one of the top 3 players on the market.
  3. Yeah he might not be.
  4. Yeah Fowler is the better player but he'll cost double what Desmond costs.
  5. Welp that's not ideal but not unexpected either. I'd still be interested assuming the pick attachment drops his value some.
  6. This is weirdly descriptive.
  7. He was an OF last year and put up 3.3 WAR.
  8. Yeah I agree with all that. You've explained the other side of the coin very well. I'd give him a 3 year deal though. 31-32-33 year old seasons. I'd honestly give him more than what people here would be comfortable giving him though. I'd go 3 for 45 or perhaps even more. I think there's a good chance he provides surplus value on a contract like that.
  9. Desmond was worth 3.3 WAR and has been worth 18.5 WAR in the past 5 seasons. If you can find a "first choice decent OF/1B" that good I'd be all ears. I think you guys are underestimating him some.
  10. MLB is turning in to a regional sport. I tune in to the playoffs but even last year the WS didn't interest me much. I almost never watch a regular season game on TV unless it's the Jays in which case I probably watch 80% of them. I think a lot of fans around the country are like that.
  11. Good points, not sure I entirely agree with your comments on his defense though. Negative in CF but he's not an albatross. His limited time in LF had him marked as a tremendous fielder, for what little that's worth. My guess is his defensive numbers would play up in a corner. And yeah, I'm not in love with his bat either but he rebounded from that bad year. You say "huge pass" but what contract numbers are you hugely passing at? I'd be very interested in a 3 year deal.
  12. The more I think about this the more I'm gravitating toward Ian Desmond. Can provide average CF defense and I would presume good defense in LF or RF where his primary position would be for us. On top of it he can come in and be a 2-4 WAR player at SS or 2B. That could come up big considering that we have injury prone players at both spots. He's never played 3B but you'd have to think that he could do it as well. As we move forward in year 2 or 3 of the contract he could move to several different positions (or even at the trade deadline of year 1) if needed as the roster evolves.
  13. Chicago has a pretty horrible reputation. But it has enough good parts to make it a worthwhile city. Detroit is just a dump all around.
  14. What have you heard?
  15. I think A-Rod is really good at it. Pete Rose is an idiot but he can be funny. Overall it's not a bad team.
  16. Pretty sure that's Book of Mormon candy actually.
  17. I would definitely take him. Wonder how much he'd cost.
  18. Both good suggestions. Question is what would they want? And in a year where there seems to be a ton of okay corner OF options I'd hate to give up anything of value.
  19. Why are you so grumpy today?
  20. Not really sure. I'm sure some get it while others wouldn't because he's been a big name around here for so long. The new GM seems to have a clue about what he's doing so my guess is that if ownership doesn't interfere he'd value and move Cargo at an appropriate price tag.
  21. There is a lot of buzz in Denver about trading Cargo. Not because they hate him or anything but rather they have some holes to fill and his high salary could prevent them from being filled. Not sure if the FO feels the same way.
  22. All 3 are fairly attractive pieces at those prices.
  23. Yeah it appears he's out of options. His value to the team is pretty limited in that case. I wonder if he could net a backup C or a reliever in a trade. He'd be an alright 5th OF/bench player in the NL.
  24. Who on that list has options? Zeke, Goins and perhaps Loup are the three I'm looking at.
  25. Yeah it could be a good idea to add a qualification component to the award. I remember in '99 when Palmeiro won the GG while playing only 28 games at first base, compared to 128 as a DH.
