My projection for Bo is a little higher but I would probably take that.

He's a year older which is a big deal and keeps him from being considered as good of a prospect. Still had a very impressive season though.

Tony Gwynn with a .338 career BA and a 4.2% K percentage would have to be an 80 hit tool. Boggs isn't a whole lot worse than that either.

I have a friend who swears he was ripping it up in his adult league and swears he could hit .250 in the big leagues if he quit and practiced every day. I tried telling him how stupid that was but he is convinced.

He can pinch hit and play 1B. And when he DH's Pearce can play the OF. Maybe they could do some sort of platoon where Pearce plays LF against lefties and Morales DH's against them. It's not ideal but he's a negative WAR player at this point on a fat deal. Better he provides negative WAR in a smaller role than to trot him out there for a full season.

I hadn't thought of releasing him but I'd put him on the bench and install Pearce as the full-time DH.

Danny Jansen has gotten on base at least once in all 17 of his AAA games so far. His Steamer projection is rising like crazy as well, they see a .256/.318/.390 slash line.

If he were to do 5 for 150 after next season he could easily provide surplus value. I think the market is roughly 9 mil per WAR right now? I could see something like this as a realistic aging curve for him. Age 33, 2019: 5.5 WAR Age 34, 2020: 5.0 Age 35, 2021: 4.5 Age 36, 2022: 4.0 Age 37, 2023: 3.5

I'd talk to ownership and get a glimpse of what they are thinking about payroll. If they are willing to field a Top 10-12 payroll or so or better I would replace next year with a 6 year, 180 million dollar deal if he wanted. That's probably as high as I would go. Not sure that would get it done though I think it would be pretty competitive.

If they could get away with a 5 or 6 year commitment which takes him through his age 36 or 37 season it could provide a lot of surplus value. If he can pick up 7 WAR a year in the first couple and then put up 2-3 on the backend it wouldn't be so bad for us. The problem is if you go 7 years or more, that's when it'd be tough for the team to swallow.

I'd try to extend JD. If he says no I go to the trade deadline with him. If we are out of it then trade him at the deadline. If we are in it we can keep him and try to resign him in the offseason. I think with better luck we could easily compete in 2018. Now if Shatkins trades him this offseason and we get a solid haul I won't be upset. It's a tough decision.

We've had some good news on the prospect front to end the season. Jansen and Borucki have become actual prospects and ones that will serve as depth for the big league team next season. Reese McGuire's hot finish has made me think he's eventual big league material as well.

A lot of this will hinge on Donaldson. I'd like to see them extend him but my guess is that they don't.
