  1. I'd try to extend JD. If he says no I go to the trade deadline with him. If we are out of it then trade him at the deadline. If we are in it we can keep him and try to resign him in the offseason. I think with better luck we could easily compete in 2018. Now if Shatkins trades him this offseason and we get a solid haul I won't be upset. It's a tough decision.
  2. Right on cue...
  3. We've had some good news on the prospect front to end the season. Jansen and Borucki have become actual prospects and ones that will serve as depth for the big league team next season. Reese McGuire's hot finish has made me think he's eventual big league material as well.
  4. A lot of this will hinge on Donaldson. I'd like to see them extend him but my guess is that they don't.
  5. Deep down we all kind of had a feeling that the 6-17 start would doom us and it has. They've basically been a solid WC team since that atrocious start but not good enough to overcome that start. But the players can't think like that they have to keep playing like they are in it.
  6. He's trash. Of all the slop we've used at backup C this year he might be the worst and that's saying something. Seems like this moment in the bigs might be too big for him or something. That throw was a joke.
  7. Trash organization. From the top down to the shitbag manager and players. (I actually don't fault them for this though. People make plans regarding these games, including the large staffs which run the concessions, security, etc. Rescheduling all of that would be a pain in the ass.)
  8. I'll bet my left nut that Pedroia (should he add a few more productive seasons as I expect he might) and Ortiz get in. Pedroia has a ton of hardware- RoY, Gold Gloves, MVP and World Series rings. Ortiz has an extra WS ring and is loved. Both play for a storied franchise. Writers love guys like these two. Bumgarner is a little bit younger than Sale so not a bad idea to just compare the two. Bumgarner had the same amount of WAR before this year but Bumgarner has 3 World Series rings and all sorts of postseason heroics.
  9. Yeah and it's good for him too. He's played well in limited time so maybe someone with an OF need will give him a shot to join the pennant race.
  10. That's exactly what I said.
  11. Because these dinosaur voters think it's an added talent (it is) that makes him a better overall candidate (it doesn't because a 120 wRC+ from a lefty, righty or switch hitter should be treated the same). Since switch-hitting is rare he's probably at the top of the leaderboards for switch-hitters too.
  12. He just turned 28 so he should have something left in the tank. His basic stats will look better than the advanced stats due to that ballpark and all the WS and postseason runs he's already had will help too. But you're right, just looking at his WAR and he hasn't been THAT good.
  13. Bumgarner could get in. Has work to do though.
  14. Agree on Molina. Like Havok said, he's probably worse than a lot of other Catchers but he has one of those stupid "winning player" auras that some guys are able to obtain. In his case I think it's because ESPN jerks off to him so much. Pedroia has that aura as well and I think he gets in too just like David Ortiz for the same reasons.
  15. It's all good. Tough to make a list like that without forgetting someone. I think Ichiro is a shoo-in. Cano, Pedroia and Beltran probably get hard looks. Utley should get a hard look too but not sure if he will. His 5 year stretch was pretty remarkable. As for pitchers- CC, Felix and Greinke could get in. Sale has some work to do but he could get in too. A lot of the top CL could have a shot too, Kimbrel among them.
  16. Don't forget Nate Pearson. He could have the most potential out of anyone.
  17. I think Betances hitting him in the head actually prevented him from getting a suspension. "Oh he didn't mean to do that he hit him in the head" became the prevalent thought. lol He hits him in the back and he's likely looking at a suspension. But what could have happened is he's actually a piece of s*** and aimed for his head OR he aimed for his back and missed high. Not sure why he gets the benefit of the doubt. Regardless no punishment whatsoever is ridiculous.
  18. -Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera gets seven games, as MLB cites that he is guilty of "inciting" the first fight. -Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez gets four games for throwing punches. -Tigers pitcher Alex Wilson gets four games for intentionally throwing at Todd Frazier. -Yankees catcher Austin Romine gets two games for throwing punches back at Cabrera. -Tigers manager Brad Ausmus gets one game for Wilson's pitch. Cabrera got way too many games IMO. He and Sanchez should be switched probably for Sanchez's cheap shot. That was pretty dangerous. How Betances didn't even get a find blow my mind though.
  19. Danny Jansen has gotten on base at least once all 14 games since being called up to AAA. I'm starting to let my inner hype build.
  20. Our offense is so bad that Gibbons is finding creative ways to get Aoki's bat in to the lineup.
  21. Yeah we started off 6-17 and have basically played good enough baseball (despite the onslaught of injuries) to get the 2nd WC since. Just dug ourselves too big of a hole.
  22. He looks like one of those weird anomalies that you see in a baseball simulation game.
  23. Here's a good view of the cheap shot:
