    Seems like Appel was seen as a top notch once in a decade type pick at the time wasn't he?

    Probably not but Smith is apparently an excellent defender, right? The power/defense combo could be good. Warmoth is a wannabe jack of all trades type but in reality he's a master of none. Smith is a year younger and in a lower level but he's doing quite well. Can't say the same for Warmoth.

    Yeah I did see the 2 strikes thing. Russell Martin and Justin Smoak are two guys who managed to change their approach with 2 strikes to help their numbers. Not sure if Pillar has done that too or if he's just a mirage.

    I believe his average exit velocity is up but that is it. As you said he's worse in other areas. That said, I do think he's been a little unlucky with his BABIP the past couple of years so I'm hopeful he's in the 90+ wRC+ range rather than the 80s which he's been.

    I would definitely approach Vlad with an extension but if he doesn't seem interested then he can come up late April of next year like most top prospects do. We don't have to justify it.
