  1. The trade looks awful for the Angels on first glance but Jamhai Jones really sucks. The Orioles are terrible so they'll be able to give him a free look but he's probably not any better of a lottery ticket than something from the free agent trash heap tbh. Alex Cobb sucks too but he does project well enough to be a #5 SP if you need one. There are still several backend SP options out there in FA who seemingly would command about the same amount of money. But surely the Angels have checked in on all of them and ultimately decided that Cobb at ~7M is as good of value as any of them. On another note, Atkins striking a deal early with Robbie Ray looks pretty good right now.
  2. That was my line of thinking too but it seems like most people perceive Adley to be clear cut better, thus he’s a better asset to have. Everyone in this league I’m in knows I’m a slut for Jays prospects so I get offers like this a lot. Maybe I’ll tell him to throw in as much as he can on top of Martin and I’ll end up accepting it.
  3. Adley Rutschman is a better fantasy asset than Austin Martin right?
  4. We definitely need another frontline SP IMO. That said I wouldn't hate the idea of adding another Odorizzi type and then possibly adding that frontline guy at the trade deadline.
  5. In theory they maybe could have done better but this isn’t MLB The Show, sometimes you are a little bit limited in who you can sign in FA. For example, we could sign a better SP later this offseason which could push Matz to a long relief role. A lot of one year FA SPs are going to want clear cut rotation spots. Since we traded for Matz, he doesn’t really have a choice in the matter. So getting a starting pitcher of his caliber to sign with us for that amount of money when he might just be used as a reliever might not be as easy it would seem.
  6. Yep. They know they need more starting pitching. No way they go all this way to build a contender and not finish it off without adding more starting pitching depth.
  7. From the article: That paragraph almost brings a tear to my eye.
  8. No I don't think so. Biggio is worth a lot more than Bryant due to age, control and cost and Hendricks isn't cheap. I'd rather just keep Biggio and then sign or trade for a SP on their own, perhaps even Hendricks himself.
  9. Big gains for these 5. Rolen definitely has a good shot now.
  10. Yeah Miller would be great. I think we need another lefty.
  11. Bring me Brad Miller.
  12. Yep. It's time to bring Gibby back.
  13. What difference does it make on a 1 year deal? If it actually somehow did matter, we could just backload year 2 or 3 on whatever SP we sign by a couple of mil to make it all fit. If said pitcher comes on a 1 year deal and we are that squeezed for cash (all indications seem to be that we aren't), just forego signing anymore 3 million dollar flyers for the bullpen.
  14. We've got rich owners in a big market. It's about time the Jays started swinging their dicks around by having 10 million dollar bench players.
  15. Semien at 1 year & 18M >>>> Brantley 2 years for 32M. Especially with our roster.
  16. I've seen several tweets saying he will play 2B. One can assume he'll get some games at SS as well whenever Bo isn't playing.
  17. I've been pimping on this board all offseason. 1 year 18 million is such a steal. Great job by Atkins.
  18. Who cares if he's volatile as long as we're not paying for his ceiling. It's not like his floor sucks. Instead of considering him volatile, another way to think of him is that he has a solid floor with tremendous upside. Top 3 in MVP voting in 2019.
  19. Wow! Not sure I believe this but I hope it's true! I think this deserves it's own thread!
  20. It is interesting to compare him to other free agent catchers and their deals. If you look at it that way he probably is getting too much money. But he seems to be the best Catcher in baseball now, right? Those other guys, other than Posey and Mauer who got BANK couldn't say the same. The position must be down compared to recent years but 5/115 doesn't seem so bad in that context. Also, compare him to Springer at 6/150. Is Realmuto at 5/115 really worse? They seem like similar talents to me. I think the Phillies probably did fine but there's no doubt that they are paying the FA premium for him and that will always carry a good bit of risk. You raise a good point about his baserunning though. That's the one issue that could really make them regret this. You would think that his foot speed would crater as he ages. 30-somethings always do, but do catchers get slower faster? Like you said he's only a good defender and a good hitter, if his baserunning craters his on field performance could take a significant hit.
  21. Well Schilling most definitely should get in but he won't.
