  1. Umps starting the year off in midseason form by hosing Biggio.
  2. He had him bunting with 2 strikes lmao
  3. Grichuk in midseason form
  4. Does anyone have a link for last year's league? I can't seem to find a way to get there. Once I get my bearings I'll start making some trades. Looks like I've got some spare OFers.
  5. Hello gents- I took over The Bad Guy but I've been tanning my cheeks in Hawaii so haven't been able to dive into this just yet. I'll be looking at everything tomorrow though. Looking forward to the season starting!
  6. They remind me of the 2013 Toronto Blue Jays. Taking a mediocre team and adding lots of flashy additions. End result was a very flawed team.
  7. Do you compete against other real life people? Or do you you just play against the computer?
  8. Yeah I agree that JBJ is better but I do think it's a lot closer than people realize. At least it's a lot closer than Pillar getting non-tendered and/or signing for $4M while JBJ gets 24M guaranteed. JBJ's career stats are fueled by his '15 and '16 years and then a BABIP inflated 2020. In '17-'19 he had a very Pillar-esque 89, 90 and 90 wRC+. Hitting left-handed basically saved him from hitting worse than Pillar does. In '20 the stats ticked up but his statcast page seems to show that it was all a mirage. His EV and .305 xWOBA were career lows. Pillar seems to be a little bit better baserunner for whatever that is worth. Fielding-wise JBJ blows Pillar out of the water so that obvs can't be ignored but Pillar was pretty good all the way up until last year when it bottomed out in his age 31 season. If JBJ can continue to play really good CF defense at age 31 and 32 then the deal won't be that bad but he's a 4th OF/platoon player to me and not someone I'd want to give 12M AAV too.
  9. JBJ isn't very good. He's Kevin Pillar but 2 years younger and bats left handed which comes in handy because he's playable more often. 24 mil for him would be a hard pass from me. They would have been better off signing Robbie Grossman or Marwin Gonzalez for a fraction of the cost and then sprinkling the savings in to pitching depth.
  10. Just now weighing in but this is a travesty. We're the only MLB team without a dedicated radio team? Sounds like its pandemic related so surely it's just a 1 year thing. This is not a good look for the brand though. Baseball is such a good sport for radio too. 80% of the time I watch the games but it's nice to have the radio option for driving/working out/beers outside. ******** move, Sportsnet.
  11. The pandemic changed the market so I somewhat agree with that. But I bet some team would have taken the full deal on or at least have come close. $50 mil is a joke. He had a full no-trade clause though and was zeroed in on the Cardinals. The Rockies were hellbent on moving him and there weren't a lot of options at that point. The 4 no-name prospects actually were important to them because it allowed the owner to dress up the trade. He literally said that he was worried that Arenado was going to opt out and they'd receive nothing in return. The non-prospects then got spun to the very casual but active fanbase as some sort of real package. As we all know, the truth is that the owner was worried that Arenado would opt in to his deal and that's why they moved him. The Cardinals knew this and strong armed the hell out of them.
  12. The Rockies are retarded but they don't really trade cheap players like this.
  13. I feel you but there is a significant chance neither of those guys would even make it that far into the season. They didn't last year. And if they did I still don't know how much they help over a bullpen game. The pitchers who will be clear difference makers for a playoff scenario can be acquired at the trade deadline.
  14. I think the Jays have been really smart to avoid signing any of these Tajiun Walker types to multi-year deals and instead spending that money on a guy like Semien. Given the short year last year, it seems most of the SP in baseball are going to be on some sort of innings restriction. I think Atkins has been quoted as wanting to implement a pretty strict innings limit too, I think he said he envisions 130 innings from his starters or something like that? 120-130 innings of Taijuan Walker or Jake Odorizzi isn't going to make much of a difference compared to what we already have. A full slate of games from Semien WILL be quite the difference compared to our other options though.
  15. Three things here. 1. That was a crazy blunt speech by Maher considering it wasn’t exactly private. Not much expectations of privacy there. Not wise on his part but as a non-Mariners fan pretty funny. 2. If true, the actions described in the lawsuits are fireable, obviously. I don’t know if they’re true or not. He’s probably getting fired for #1 anyway. 3. King putting his pronouns in his bio is a big yikes. Surely that’s being done in an ironic way? If not that’s deserving of a ban. At least a 24 hour one.
  16. Yeah I agree. The Giants GM knows what he's doing. Probably sees Sanchez as a high upside multi-inning reliever.
  17. So does Kevin Pillar sucks or is he actually kind of ok? 1.7 WAR for the Giants in 2019 and 1.1 in the shortened season last year. $5 Mil seems reasonable for a guy like that but twitter seems to think this deal is a joke.

Thank you both for the answer to my question and the random factoid about NFL MVP awards.
  19. Kevin Pillar to the Mets. Looks like it's a 1 year 5M guarantee with some sort of way to get to 2 year 10 mil. I hadn't been keeping tabs on him since he left but he's actually been pretty good.

I've got a question for you all. After Brady won his 7th Super Bowl he's getting a lot of greatest of all time in any sport talk. Seems like he and Jordan are the two names that come up most. I don't know s*** about hockey but Wayne Gretzky was every bit as good at hockey as Jordan was at basketball or as Brady is at football right?
  21. Grichuk is a good 4th OF for this team. He's expensive for that role but it will be nice to have a good bench player for once. Plus, if we traded him we'd have to eat some of his contract and then turn around and sign another 4th OF to be our backup CF. By the time we do all that we'll be creeping up on 10M spent anyway.
  22. The key words to my post were Avisail and Garcia. Fisher sucks but Garcia does too. Fisher has the platoon advantage so I could see him forcing his way into a decent share of ABs.
