  1. Vlad didn't look lost at the plate, more that his obesity was so high and launch angle was so low his elite exit velo would only lead to 50 double plays and 120 mph singles off the wall. Kelenic is (so far) lost at the plate.
  2. In 2015 they 1. Took 20 year old starters with 5 innings of a ball (Osuna, Castro) 2. 23 year old starters with more innings that were at Pearson level (Sanchez) 3. later 20s failed 20 starters (Cecil, Loup) 4. Trade for guys, Lowe, some other guy (Hawkins) OK. Pearson, little guy who just got Tommy John, Borucki, Kay, big Canadian guy who Vlad mimicks, side armer guy who Vlad mimicks greyed haired guy who isn't really that old Guys who owe them for injury rehab (Phelps, Yates) Guys we don't know about yet More old guys Merryweather guy (arm is rested) Why isn't all this going to be a great bullpen next year?
  3. Well that's how they play it. Choose the high end prospect they want. Put a notice out that teams can have Ray or Semien for the high end prospect they want then take the week off but have the phone handy if anyone is willing to pay.l
  4. I agree, but I don't think that's how they'd play it, if they got him. They'd give him a year of at bats to see if he could help. He'd be taking Grichuk's at bats so might even improve the team, at least improve the left/right balance a bit. I'd probably rather have a .270 .330 .400 lefty with lower k rate in there, rather than .260 .285 .450 Grichuk. Probably doesn't make much of a difference either way, and if they have been willing to play Grichuk they play Hosmer, at least for a while.
  5. Cronenworth, not sure how the value works out there. The Jays have to add Semien, then maybe Jays are the ones having to add prospects as he has 4 or 5 years of control (fits with our window) Then sign Charlie to a 4 year extension... lineup is Springer Vlad Hosmer Bichette Cronenworth Hernandez Biggio/Martin/Groshans Gurriel Kirk/Moreno I wouldn't hit Hosmer third, but Charlie is in charge not me. Since Charlie is nice to Hosmer and fills him with confidence and cheer, Hosmer hits a bit better than he has lately, .290 .340 .450 or so... Jays are a powerhouse with 105 potential - 3 loss wins from Charlie = 102
  6. I wonder if they'd be open to trading Cronenworth now that they have Frazier, or if we added Semien to replace Cronenworth for this year Grichuk + Semien +x for Hosmer + Cronenworth + y What is x and y to make it even? Cronenworth is super-valuable I assume, so maybe this is a pipe dream... but if they really want to get rid of Hosmer they have to give up something.
  7. This is where Charlie could really f*** away a couple of wins over a season. Giving at bats to Grichuk and McGuire that should go to Kirk. Kirk should be hitting 6th, and playing 95% of the time as DH or C. Risk losing the DH, and if somehow Kirk and McGuire go down in the same game, get Espinal to catch.
  8. They are 4.5 games out... The only reason you trade Ray and Semien if you are convinced they are f***ed and burnt out, and all these close losses have busted the moral of the clubhouse and they are headed for 75 wins I wouldn't trade Ray and Semien if I was convinced they are headed for 85 wins. Even if no playoffs I'd rather end on a positive note. Could be helpful to try and resign Ray and Semien, or different players to replace them. And of course if they aren't mentally f***ed they could get off the mat and still catch the second wild card.. just hard to see it on nights like this.
  9. Their core was Ellsbury, Ortiz and Pedroia, all of who had good, but not fluky years. Victorina and Drew and Napoli had good years but comparable to what they'd done before. Same with pitching staff Lester and Buckholz good years, maybe Buckholz was fluky but also only pitched 100 innings. Solid long term core supplemented by a bunch of buy low guys in their early 30s.
  10. Not sure about Ron Cey, but maybe the best Blue Jays team near term has Kirk at DH when he's not catching..
  11. Yeah... I noticed. Good thing most of these guys weren't around in 1990. I don't like the Sox either, but they are the team I am most jealous of. The 2013 team in particular.
  12. Why would I get banned for that? They are arguably the best franchise in baseball along side the Yankees and Dodgers. Who else would be in the picture?
  13. They may be the best organization in baseball. Most titles in the last 20 years. Not as high a payroll as the Yankees or Dodgers. Don't do $300 plus million dollar contracts, no Trevor Bauer type s***.
  14. 0-2 on Cordero, takes tough pitches like he knows they are coming ... 1-2 on Chavis, starts taking close pitches he was swinging at earlier in the count
  15. oh well at least the Red Sox are kind enough to use "the system" in the second and end the game early. I assume they'll get 7 and that will be that. Yesterday they didn't start the system until the 8th. Yanks had a no hitter, 4-0 lead and the Sox decided to use the system. Boom 5-4. We won't have that this game, maybe a later game in the series.
  16. Yeah. Kirk had 50 at bats at aaa and hit .350 with good line drive power Two 22 year olds MILB .331 .414 .531 .317 .416 .503 MLB .287 .368 .516 .296 .359 .521 One is god of hitting, generational talent. Battling Fernando Tatis for best player in baseball. One can catch and has lower sample size so is like the 80th best prospect in baseball The missing year is screwing things up still and this entire batch of players is going to have huge variance. Kirk is performing like like Vlad Guerrero kind of... but with 50 high minor at bats and 80 mlb at bats we don't really know if that is real. It probably isn't because most fat people aren't VGJR
  17. Or they have an intern that looks at baseball reference in-game probabilities and gives them a report every day and running total of what Charlie's blunder cost. Intern: Today was a terrible day. Blue Jays Message board is angry as the birds. Charlie bunted at the wrong time and reduced the team's win probability from 34.8 to 33.7. A terrible day indeed. Intern: Today was a terrible day. Charlie used the wrong reliever and reduced the in game win probability from 70.9 to 70.6. Blue Jays message board has gone nuts.
  18. Do you have the Monkey Pox vaccine? If so where did you get it? Monkey Pox is the new thing I heard about this week and want to get ahead of it.
  19. Not really a s***-hole city. Nice place to watch a game. Niagara falls nearby. Enough Tim Horton's to make it feel like you are in a civilized country. $20.00 parking within a 5 minute walk of ballpark. Safe walk. Nice little stadium. Every seat is pretty amazing (no nosebleeds). Can get out and driving 100 km an hour on an highway in 10 minutes (as opposed to Toronto where it's an hour before you are on a highway that is moving). Enjoyable experience.
  20. Wilner Update (Baseball related as it pertains to safety of going to games) Wilner was announcing the Israeli Olympic warm up games Travelled extensively in a country without a mask mandate and a delta outbreak (I will not reveal the country as I don't want the thread to turn political) Watched baseball games in minor league stadiums from the announcers booth (albeit he would of been distanced from non-announcers) Is alive as of this morning and Tested negative for COVID 19 on re-entry to Canada Just some anecdotal safety evidence in case you are thinking of attending baseball games
  21. This is exactly it. Maybe limit to 11 or 12 on the 25. 1. Pitchers will have to learn to pace themselves and we go back to 260 inning aces, 200 inning starters become routine, a few 80-100 inning relievers. The boys will have to pace themselves though. 2. Ks go down. 3. Here is the tricky part. A 270 inning starter pacing himself may give up 80 homeruns. So deaden the ball until that becomes 30. OK. There you go. Fixed.
  22. Perhaps becoming more true as manager's get less authority however in the old days managers could have tremendous impact on performance by their allocation of playing time, opinion on hitting approach, judgement, temperment, psychology. I think a recent example is Yermin Mercedes. Not saying he is all that, or was destined to be a star, however if he was destined to have a 4 or 5 year run and earn a couple million LaRusso took it away from him, apparently because he swung at a 3-0 pitch on a position player. I think the Jays did that a couple of times already. Aggressive swings against Boston and TBR position players in blow outs, I specifically remember Bo doing it on a 3-0 and Charlie is laughing his ass off. I do kind of wonder if having a LaRusso on a team like ours could impact the young player's performance.
  23. Clarification, not really saying it isn't a big deal to be separated from family. Just saying if you are a millionaire you can find a way to have them on the road. If you get vaxed your ability to travel to Canada should be fine, August 9th. There are solutions to his problem. Wife could J&J and be there August 9th as far as I know.
  24. Yeah, everyone has made sacrifices, and an MLB millionaire being separated from his family for 2 months shouldn't mentally get to him so much he completely blows a start. This shouldn't of ever been an issue, and it makes me wonder if he brought it to the teams attention. I bet he didn't. Shapiro seems class, and would of tried to make arrangements to have the family on the road. or give Stripling a mental break if he needed it. I also wonder why the family can't come August 9th? Unvaxed maybe? If so I wouldn't hold it against him (Pregnant then Nursing wife? Probably safe form what I know, but you could see how someone would hold off) At the same time, if you aren't vaxed you realistically have less ability to travel internationally. Just the way it is right now.
  25. This is like 100% opposite of the truth. This is what Charlie is good at. He's taken a collection of talent and really developed it into a team. Vlad, Bo, Teoscar (with help from fans), Semien are all having their first all star seasons under him. Biggio and Gurriel were struggling a bit at times but Charlie is molding them into helpful team pieces during their struggles. One Catcher can't hit, the other can't hit, one got caught for indecent exposure and yet Charlie works with them, molding them into the picture. Have you ever looked at the dug-out and seen the team, teaming? Bonding? Cheering for each other. Having a wonderful great team like attitude? 1. Charlie is great, perhaps the best ever at making a collection of talent a team. 2. Charlie is not good (maybe) at some strategic decisions 3. Charlie was given the worst bullpen of all time (original bullpen he was suppose to have all on 60 day dl) which makes the impression that Charlie is really stupid (when he just is maybe stupid, or maybe not).
