  1. He's a product of the Beeston, Cito Gaston culture -- Once you win you deserve forever respect no matter what. These guys have no appreciation of the amount of luck that it took for them to get where they are....
  2. Reynolds is 10000000-1 to be GM in the Shapiro regeme... after Shapiro is driven out of town by Bob Elliot and Richard Griffin, Reynolds is 3-1 to be president in 2018. 2018, swing at first pitch, be relentless, hug an intern.
  3. He hugged an intern... what kind of hug is up for debate. Google "Harold Reynolds, hug, intern" to find out more. Reynolds claims it was an innocent hug. In 2006 when money ball and plate discipline was still mainstream Harold saw a guy swing at the first pitch, he got so excited he hugged an intern. Then he was fired. Mostly true.
  4. He would not get ripped off by NL gms trying to trade their over-rated pitching because he knows the secret formula that translates NL era to the American league. He also would hire Cito Gaston and Dwayne Murphy back and we would hit a lot of homers and almost homers that hook foul.
  5. Absolutely agree... the complaints about Gibbons are totally overblown.
  6. OK then... but the same holds. The Jury is still out. If Pompey, Alford, Stroman, and a couple of others come through his drafting record will look a lot better. Your pretty good at taking abuse in stride... I'll try in the future to be less aggressive with my replies... just argue the issues and not go over the top.
  7. The results have been excellent for a two months out of 6 years. It was the greatest two months in the last 20 years. And it is very fair to bring it up. Grant - " I am Grant. The results have been excellent for the last two months. I believe this will continue. I am Grant and I love AA" If you said the above people would like you. However you talk like a weasel. You have huge recency bias and cherry pick a lot The results as a whole have not been excellent. 2013 all-in year -- not excellent. Halladay trade -- not excellent (in a weird way the jury is still out, because Devon Travis is indirectly a product of that deal) The results as a whole have been excellent. That is a lie, you are a liar. The results have been mixed, with the best moments the most recent.
  8. Jays got Ryan Goins to hit moneyball way for a couple of months.. not sure if this is repeatable or not... If Jays know how to get Ryan Goins to take some pitches that is an amazing thing if it can be repeated.
  9. It's so insane... we're told that you need an army of "super scouts" to do this... but the super scouts missed Sale?? Missed Trout??? If super-scouts exist they should be able to recognize Trout, Sale, recognize the value of the cuban players, the japanese players. And if they can't do that.... well then it's hard to believe super scouts exist... and you have to give equal weight to analytics... understand it's a crap shoot.
  10. Beeston - Joe Carter, Roberto Alomar, Jose Reyes.. wait you mean players from other teams?? Do they have to be active?? Clayton Kershaw. that fish guy from L.A. Not Salmon but their new fish guy...
  11. AA - how do you start this program?? Does it work on apple?? Tech guy - It works on Windows, Apple, and even linux. AA - OK big boy, enough with the techno babble, does it use a mouse?? Tech guy - Yes. It even works from an internet browser. Open up a browser and type in the password... the password is http://www.fangraphs.com AA - s*** on a stick this s*** is slick Tech guy - glad you like it...
  12. My name is Eric Hosmer I came from the farm system. My name is Salvadore Perez I came from the farm system. My name is Moose I came from the farm system. My name is Alex Gordon I came from the farm system. My name is swing at first pitch and make Harold Reynolds happy I came when we traded our Cy Young winner for prospects My name is Center field athletic guy with 7 WAR I came when we traded our Cy Young winner for prospects My name is Alex Rios I just showed up for the party My name is Ben Zobrist, I get on base and am old... what am i doing here again? My name is big fat cuban guy who hit ball far... I did not come from the farm system.
  13. I'm neutral on Gibby and AA. As I said in another thread I don't believe in being two clever. Almost everything should run with the simplest algorithm possible. See ball, hit ball. Win 63 games - FIRE EVERYBODY Win 93 games and play off series - Keep them It's not too hard... is it??
  14. Pillar did steal second... That 9th inning is a blur... but he stole second... I don't think they threw but can't remember for sure.
  15. If you look over history all kinds of different teams have won the world series. Afterwards people come up with a narrative about why they won. The last time the Jays won the world series they had a great hitting team, and won all their games with 8 or more runs. This team can win the world series they just need more luck. Or you can trade one of our sluggers for 3 scouts and a professional bunter... but that won't help.
  16. There is a lot of crap going around about how the scouts won the series... especially the Cain send... That's what I thought he was referring to. Did you see this?? http://www.kansascity.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/judging-the-royals/article41317512.html
  17. I don't think they hit price that hard. The homers in game 6 were barely over the fence.., if at all in one case. The 7th in game 2 gad 2 bloopers... The obvious one and the Hosmer hit. If Goins makes a catch he should of and the dumb fan doesn't make one he shouldn't of... Price is likely 2-0 and we are watching a game in 30 minutes.
  18. Hugh??? You mean because they sent Cain??? There were no outs. It was a tie game. K.C. Would probably have scored him anyway. If not it was still tied. If they don't win game 6 they still have game 7. That's ********.
  19. Chris Davis literally strikes out twice as much as Bautista and EE. Is that a concern?? How have the other 200 strikeout guys aged??
  20. Even small teams rarely bunt with guys on second or third. Royals won it last night on a sac-fly. The best percentage play in that case was to hit and hope for the fly ball... it took two bad strike calls, and some wicked pitches to crush our hopes. If they bunted with Goins it could of turned bad any number of ways.
  21. Read baseball america scouting reports - draft guy Read baseball america scouting reports - draft guy Read baseball america scouting reports - draft guy Trade all guys for old(er) guy??? WIN! WIN! WIN! -- Win again next year?? Not sure about that part yet.
  22. If you hit well in Colorado you will hit in other places, but not as much If you hit well in San Francisco you will hit really well other places. No need for park factors beyond that
  23. As a general philosaphy I don't believe teams should get this clever... See ball, hit ball, take walk, strike out guy, catch ball, don't walk guy, if you are old you get worse -- if you are young you get better -- if you hit in minors you will hit in majors but not quite as much. Luck evens out. That's all -- no need for any advanced stats if you can keep track of it all some other way -- advanced stats just make it easier to do the accounting.
  24. The same could of been said about Ryan Goins 6 months ago. He sucks at pitch recognition. Then all of a sudden he hits puts up a 10% walk rate and becomes a decent player. My god... if you could teach all the Ryan Goins of the world to hit .250 with a 10% walk rate you'd get places. The great questions of our time Why did Ryan Goins take so many walks?? Was it character?? Was it random chance?? Can he repeat it?? My god can other light hitting dudes find the same magic. Does Goins actually have better pitch recognition then Arencibia and Lawrie?? Or was he given better advice?? Or did he just listen cuz he was afraid Donaldson and Bautista would yell at him if he swung at bad pitches?
  25. All I mean is that combined the goal should be for these players should be to have a .320 on base percentage. There will be random variation, injuries, bad luck, good luck, differences in playing time, so you can't divide by three. They can't fall in love with these guys if they start to slip...
