  1. I am getting really distracted now looking for old highlights... here is Buck Martinez from 1987 if you want to see young Buck -- this isn't the point where it reached implosion, it is from a couple of weeks before. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI7lxXhssRo
  2. This morning I looked out my window and found A bluebird singing but there was no one around At night I lay alone in my bed With an image of you goin' around in my head Congratulations for bringing me down Congratulations now I'm sorrow bound Congratulations you got a good deal Congratulations how good you must feel
  3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dsl_krW7ZkE Does anybody remember global sportsline?? in 1991 after the Blue Jays lost the ALCS they did a compilation of sad ALCS moments to congratulations... anybody remember that?? Spanky?? Gruber?? Any other old timers?? Or 40 somethings who would been teens then??
  4. Shea has nothing to do with this. It is not like there is a curse or anything. 1. It is fluke and bad luck and mini-slumps that are just random... implosion will end... or it could continue. Situation is stochastic. 2. There are reasons behind implosion mostly due to age and injury and fatigue (both disclosed and undisclosed) if so, Implosion may continue (deterministic).
  5. Yes, atleast in 1995 that f***er, Greg Maddux had a personal catcher, it looked like early on Javy Lopez caught him, then after May it was mostly Charlie O'Brien. OK, I change my position. Personal catchers for everybody. Now that we have three GMs (Shapiro, Atkins, and Cherington) we have the front office geniuses needed to pull off the roster magic needed to carry all those catchers.
  6. I know. We need a backup catcher. However instead of Thole/Navarro maybe good backup catcher. I guess to fair Navarro might be good as backup catchers go.
  7. f*** you. f*** everybody. Not picking on you. I chose 1995 cuz that was peak of Maddux career... just to see if he used Personal catcher. Charlie O'Brien was the back up catcher and had .343 on base... so I assume he would of been Maddux personal catcher. Maddux had ERA of 1.63. O'Brien had on base of .343 There are exceptions to every rule Exceptio: Personal catchers are fine if pitcher has ERA under 2.00 and catcher has on base percentage over .340..
  8. Oh yeah I forgot. Martin was not playing because we needed fatty to catch Estrada... last two times that worked out well. f*** Personal catchers. If a pitcher needs a personal catcher to catch his s*** f*** him, don't acquire him in the first place a) get a good catcher (like Russel Martin, except Russell is old so probably won't be good soon). get a good backup You have a chance to acquire cy 'f***ing' young with a trick ptich for an a-ball flame thrower... f*** that. It's a trap. f*** it!
  9. If the player is that bad they shouldn't be hitting second. In fact that player shouldn't of even been in there. DH Martin.
  10. f*** you. The team hasn't quit. Why the f*** would they quit?? If anything when teams get to this point they try to hard. I suspect it more than likely age and injuries behind this s***. EEs strike out rate sucks this year. Bautista sucks and has been injured. Donaldson slumped than we find out he is injured, maybe seriously. Stroman, Sanchez, Happ, and Estrada are probably tired, all are at/near career high in innings pitched. Dickey is 41 f***ing years old. Come to think of it our gomdamn set up men are 40...
  11. Christ... can anybody who likes bunts just give up on it now. It doesn't matter if you get a 1 run lead early. The idea is to get lots of f***ing runs. There are maybe 5 times it makes sense bunting in a season... maybe if Ryan Goins is at the plate, 2-2 game in the 8th and s*** like that. But middle of the order, first inning no, f*** you
  12. Crowd see's Donaldson stop hitting, and notices slight cues... they realize he is injured before it becomes public. Crowd is ensemble AI??
  13. In all seriousness it would be quite interesting to know if there is a bit of crowd wisdom in calling the implosion. I believe Jon called it one week ago... becoming more and more obvious now. Maybe the fans pick up on things, like 1. No Blue Jays starter has ever pitched 200 innings 2. Blue Jays are relatively old 3. Donaldson stops hitting 4. West Coast trip followed by Yankees/Os/Red Sox to end season Does the AI know these things when calculating play off odds?? Or is the "crowd" wise to them and playoff odds are even less than what is reported? Crowd is panicking because the crowd is still a better AI than the AI??
  14. caller - Mike.. seeing what the Yankees have done with young players do you think the Jays should of sold at the deadline. Mike (long pause, extra long pause, deep breath) - Who would you sell?? Bautista, EE and Tulo can't be traded without their permision. (fair enough answer on this one)
  15. caller - "Mike would you fire Gibbons if the Jays don't make the playoffs" Mike - (long pause)... (really long pause)... it's a little early to think about that. Especially when we're 1.5 games up on a playoff spot. Mike - And no. I would not fire John Gibbons. (long pause) Mike - Shapiro didn't hire Gibbons... so you never know... but fire John Gibbons?? The only manager who has gotten the Jays to the playoffs in the last 20 years?? (long pause) Mike - John Gibbons?? A guy who is currently 1.5 up on the second wild card??
  16. Caller - Mike would you trade Donaldson in the offseason assuming the Blue Jays don't make the playoffs. Mike -- (long pause)... (condescending long pause) Mike -- "assume??" it's a little early to assume anything, the Jays are 1.5 up on the second wild card. Caller - I know Mike, but I just don't see things working out.. with the west coast trip then A.L. East contenders the rest of the way. So would you trade Donaldson. Mike -- (long pause)... No. No. I would not. That's all next caller.
  17. Just for a little humour this is the place to talk about Mike Wilner's "implosion" era blue jays talk... Question got brought up in game day thread, and just cuz Mike is the press secratory basically I think he deserves his own thread.
  18. Oh yeah... his Mom knew.
  19. Your missing the point Nobody cares about the bunt.. it's about .1 of a run either way. People are just pissed that the casuals and announcers are focusing on something inconsequential. If Buck and Path said - "The Jays have no young players, and no depth, that's why they are tired, the Red Sox have Jackie Bradley, Betts and Bogartz, average age of 24... and they have Moncada... if a key player gets injured Moncada could step in... he might strike but he might be awesome... Jays have Goins and Barney... oh they just bunted... who the f*** cares either way!" That would be a rare taste of honesty... which is all the hard core fans ask for.
  20. Exactly. The issue here is the Jays are old, injured, and the pitchers are all running out of gas. Bunting or not bunting is inconsequential...
  21. believe it or not I spent a crap load of money for tickets in Boston the last weekend. A relative who was convinced the Jays would be in it and the game would be awesome kept pressuring me to do it. I refused and refused trying to explain to them that the Jays could collapse and the game might be nothing... then just around the time implosion began I gave in and bought expensive tickets. Now I don't even think I'll get a chance to see Mookie Betts because he will be resting for the playoffs... The money doesn't bother me as much as wasting a Saturday to go see Dalton Pompey and Moncando... or whoever the red sox play.
  22. At this point all realistic hope will end in the Seattle series... there is a chance the Jays could be officially eliminated at the end of the Yankees series... It's actually sort of likely that some of the last home games will be meaningless, with the Jays eliminated... wow! horrible stuff and it happened so fast.
  23. might as well update now... September 3-9 Imploder of the day - Marco Estrado False moment of hope - Marco Estrado 3 perfect Innings Gibby imploding move of the day - bunt in first inning with middle of order coming up Anticipated implosion completion - Sept 25th, fan appreciation day Just a little extra f*** you - Donaldson sent for MRI
  24. I'm not implying that Donaldson has that same injury... just being silly. Although I doubt anything could be done about that type of injury. If you f*** up the blood supply I'm not sure they can fix it. Maybe I am wrong.
