  1. Maile getting tendered could be a hint that there is a trade deal in the works for one of the young catchers imo.
  2. Yes, I was thinking I was extremely misremembering something.
  3. I had to double check BR to confirm it's not the Justin Miller I'm thinking of
  4. Holy f***. I'll take a 40 point halftime lead and a 20 point win any day. Garbage time. The Raptors were right back on their game when the lead was cut to 16.
  5. Okay, speculating on what's inside Atkins' head or which free agent might want to come to Toronto is pure guesswork. It has nothing to do with baseball IQ any more than playing the lottery would be. Saying that Toronto SHOULD be in contention for useful free agents to try to speed up the competitive window is different than saying Toronto WILL sign a certain free agent. But yeah, Jim reacting like this to someone else's criticism is not surprising. Yet the poor gimp from Mississauga was the one banished from here. Wheeler or Keuchel should improve this team and be targets. No s***. So should Cole and Moustakas as well as any number of trade targets.
  6. It's one thing to do this to the Knicks or Hornets or Bulls...but to an actual NBA team. Raptors were only 2.5 favourites in this game. When will Vegas give them respect? I haven't checked but I'm guessing the Raptors record against the spread this year is one of the best if not the best in the league.
  7. I hope they banned everyone who already writes off the possibility of contention in 2020. On December 1. With a $70 million payroll. Several developing young players slotted into starting roles next year at league minimum. And a ton of quality free agents available. I would think that at this stage at least everyone can agree that it is far too early to make any reasonable projections for next year. Even coming out of the spring with a set roster the variance in expectations could be huge given the reliance on young players.
  8. RE: Profar and Villar. Yes either/or would have been a great addition. My main concern is that Villar was shopped and Profar probably was too before these decisions were made. If the Jays were in on either of these guys, they could have easily secured them by sending a low level prospect in return. I wouldn't get your hopes up as armchair GM.
  9. Easy win. As I said at the start of the season the 76ers are overrated bags of s*** led by cavemen.
  10. Anything is possible if the league embraces degenerate gamblers. How many "true" NFL fans are there? Meaning the types that just cheer for the sake of cheering and never place any money on the games, join pools etc.
  11. Why not? It's a smart move. He knows the player personally. The player knows him to some extent as well. There has to be some kind excess value to be extracted by taking advantage of relationships like that (or knowing which ones to avoid).
  12. Jays are a 95 win team next year so that won't be an issue.
  13. I'm assuming this is in response to the absolutely f***ing retarded thread name. Which if you start in the Jays forum and read the whole title off the bat it's fine. But if you start at the home page and read something like "Encarnacion to the Blue..." as the thread with the last post, get all excited until you click on it and read it. Then all you want to do is punch the thread creator in the face. It did serve a purpose as a psychological tell. I was momentarily excited which means I guess I would be happy if the Jays sign him. Though I agree with Jim here, he should be way down the list. BTS reasoning is also apt for why he would be a perfectly good fit here.

"Thanks for the $40 million for doing nothing, I can spend my days on PornHub now". Seriously, would there be anyone who would be upset if their employer fired them and gave them 4 years severance? Saskjayfan is the board's living embodiment of the ok boomer meme.
  15. Who is cheaper? Urena or Drury? That's rhetorical since we know who heads to arbitration this year. The one who is slated to earn more than league minimum is the less valuable non-asset.

So did Babcock even earn half of his 8 year $50 million deal? Pretty close I guess, lol. As long as it's not a cap hit I guess it doesn't matter. Let the Leafs piss away Tannenbaum's money generated from the corporate season ticket sales.

Don Cherry in a coaching role on an NHL team would be the best thing ever. Not on a team that I would root for, but just in general to see the spectacle.
  18. # of likes given to this post calling Olerud an underrated poster:4 # of likes given on Olerud's actual rants: 1 The empirical evidence would point to this being true.
  19. I'll probably jinx this when looking at the rest of the schedule for November, but what I like about this team so far is that they beat teams they are supposed to beat. Well coached team with players going all out every night so far.
  20. Holy s*** I had to check it myself but Kevin Pillar actually had 88 RBI last year. You learn something new everyday. Whatever you think of Pillar, or that stat, or the guy who voted for him or his rant in response to being called out for voting for him, that IS pretty impressive for Pillar. Also LOL @ his 1.5 WAR year. If Kevin Pillar managed to put up 88 RBI in a season and I knew absolutely nothing else about him that year, I would guess he put up 4 WAR. I guess RBI count really is unreliable.
  21. This is one of those times where Jim is absolutely right. Front loaded contract is how the Jays have to play this. Not just with Cole but with any top FA. Use the salary space of this year, keep the team intact when arbitration comes around for the young guys.
  22. Ujiri has been phenomenal but his biggest blemish was signing DeRozan to the max contract. It's one of my triggers thinking he's going to be liberal with the money when it comes to signing homegrown players. Though he did well with Lowry this off-season. The year is still young and if OG continues to progress you can't rule it out. As much as I like FVV, I think he's playing about as good as he's ever going to get and his time at the apex won't last forever. I can see a substantial overpay there. Though I suppose Ujiri already knows the likelihood of recruiting Giannis here, tampering rules aside. If he knows he's got a good shot, he already has a plan to work him into the payroll.
  23. Is this good enough for you?
  24. Also Gasol needs to go ASAP. Ideally traded or benched. He is an absolute black hole on offense and this team doesn't really need his contribution on defense. Boucher deserves the minutes.
  25. I feel the window on Giannis is closing. The downside of having so many breakout players. Max contracts for all! This is a good team, better than the DeRozan teams. But not a championship team. So if you're happy with 50-55 win seasons, some playoff round wins and maybe a fluky finals appearance, we are good!
