    NHL Thread

You so were typing this out in the middle of the Leafs game then had to think for a few hours of a way to post this without looking like an idiot.
  2. Pearson misses one start to gain the extra year of control. Then essentially gets that back when the Jays skip a few s***** pitchers after the days off. I like that. It could hurt the team down the road if there are numerous double headers. We'll see how those postponed games make out.
  3. I'm kinda hoping the Astros win many World Series now. They are slowly becoming my second favourite team. The whinebags who think they are morally superior by pointing out the flaws in others and wishing for pain, failure and embarrassment online would have their heads explode.
  4. I'm guessing most of the Ruth is fat myth comes from the John Goodman movie where they even had a fat kid from the little rascals lookalike play his orphanage days.
  5. What would be the point of this? Value is at a low point and upside would be high for the acquiring team. I'd rather have the team wait as long as possible to see if he develops and if not trade him for Brad Lincoln.
  6. Atkins only hires managers who he can beat in an arm wrestling contest, which as you can imagine is a pretty small pool. You can forget about Gibbons. Atkins to Gibbons is like Ash to Gaston. Except Atkins has enough intelligence to know he would never win that battle and enough influence to ensure it never takes place.
  7. I can see where this is headed. As this is quickly turning into the XFL of MLB seasons, I predict viewership will drop off dramatically when everybody is resigned to the fact that this is a farce and stop caring. A final nail in the coffin will be an extended postponement of games from the Dodgers or Yankees. Manfred won't cancel the season when it becomes apparent it can't go on and there is still some dignity left in doing so at the right time. He'll cancel the season when no more people are watching. Gotta have as much egg on the face as possible. That's the Manfred way. How many people here already feel their interest waning on this season?
  8. You guys aren't looking at the big picture here. Cancel every Jays game except against the Orioles, Red Sox and Marl...scratch that last one. Playoffs here we come!
  9. It's even more than it should be. This is 2017 start bad. I'd say even worse because at least back then the tank guys were fapping to the idea of getting the #1 pick and trading every vet, offsetting some of the woe.
  10. The line went from -140 to -155 once this post went up. Even Vegas respects your power.
  11. Maybe this is his way of gaslighting the FO for not adding to the pen in the offseason. Charlie Montoyo is a freakin genius! Injure the one good guy then bring out the dartboard on the rest of the manure.
  12. This is all a function of a weak pen given too many innings. Don't tell me you guys wouldn't have screamed bloody murder if Pearson touched anywhere near 100 pitches. He has 75 yesterday. Maybe Roark should have gone longer since who cares about him but it's not like taking an SP out after 5 is an egregious decision in April baseball played in late July. Let's just hope Ryu can go 7+ today. And if Montoyo takes him out early even when pitching well that would be a decision worth complaining about.
  13. This. Jays are 3-3. All six games on the road or "road" against tough opponents. Instead of looking at the many positives that entails, it's non-stop bitching about the BP, bad management decisions, the offense in general and Guerrero in particular. You'd think the team is 0-6.
  14. Montoyo is basically Cito Gaston without Henke and Ward.
  15. ??? Let's maybe wait for the Jays to face the Orioles or Red Sox before writing off the offense? I agree the BP conversations are too much.
  16. Nationals have a DH so at no point in time is Pearson facing Scherzer. He's facing the nine hitters in Washington's lineup. I thought that since nobody cares about W-L records anymore that thinking like this would go to the wayside?
  17. I don't know what you think I'm responding to but the last several posts were bemoaning about the Jays' lack of attempt to improve the BP in the offseason. That had nothing to do with criticizing or not criticizing individual game decisions. I bring in the last 10 years because complaining about the BP is a favourite pastime of this board every time the team blows a game late. I grew up watching Ward and Henke as the only thing I knew a bullpen ever was. It's painful to watch otherwise for me as much as anyone else. But if there is already bitching about it in game 2, prepare for a long 60 game season.
  18. The MLB should implement a rule that any runner who crosses home plate in the 7th inning and onwards is subject to 100 lashes. That should eliminate the bitching and moaning by fans every time their team's BP gives up runs. The bullpen did just fine yesterday. You don't win too many games scoring one run. For as long as I can remember perusing these forums, there has always been complaints about the Jays' BP. But if the team scores late and comes from behind, that's just clutch hitting. I'm way too lazy to look this up, but my gut feel is that the Jays bullpens have been more or less middle of pack, even in the under .500 seasons over the last 10 years. And in the years the bullpen has been bad, it's actually the starting pitchers who haven't been pulling their weight, exposing the relievers.
  19. At least it's better than what's going on with the Facebook Jays group right now lol
  20. In the NBA the average team has no chance of winning. The NFL rarely sees an 8-8 team make the playoffs and that's almost always due to a weak division. The NHL is as Canadian as it is American. Really this quote is way more apt for Canada. The easiest playoffs to make are the CFL playoffs where everyone but the 3-15 teams make it.
  21. LOL as much as I hate Trudeau, and as much as I disagree with this decision to keep the Jays out of Toronto, none of these arguments make any sense. The Jays were already allowed to come here and likely will again if they make the playoffs. It's the constant back and forth and invitation of several teams over a two month period that was determined to be too much.
  22. Be careful what you wish for. There is one and only one way this city ever gets a new baseball stadium. And that's if the Dome is torn down, Rogers sells the land to condo developers for $$$$$$$$$$$$ and picks up some land elsewhere for $$$$ and builds a new stadium there. Even speaking from a logistical point of view, there is no place in the downtown core with enough space to put a baseball stadium except where it is right now. That means it would have to be torn down and rebuilt and that's a multi-year project. Or the new one is build in the suburbs, the area around Cherry Beach or the Toronto islands.
  23. LMFAO at the Canadian inferiority complex. There is nobody in the PA state office secretly wringing their hands with an evil smile saying "haha, we f***ed those Canadians up HARD on this one". 90%+ of the people impacted here are U.S. citizens. From the Jays players and coaches to the workers at PNC who lost out on some overtime opportunities.
  24. To be fair, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is like comparing Ottawa to Toronto in terms of distance and population density. I mean, we have different stages according to different regions in our province, so why not there as well? The PA government might be resigned to a certain level of COVID on the coast that is unacceptable on the western end of the state. If they have resources allocated heavily to the east, they can't afford an outbreak in the west too.
  25. When it's a contract extending to age 40, who really cares about AAV. Everyone knows that there's a good chance the last 3+ years are lame duck seasons anyways, and it's essentially higher AAV for productive years with a salary deferral.
