  1. You have to face 3 batters. There was one out. Dumb, dumb dumb dumb dumb. Bring in Romano to put out fires. First Bergen, now Saucedo.
  2. Feels like there were better options than the rookie.
  3. I don't know much about Brandon Eisert. His numbers look pretty good. A lefty reliever throwing mid 90s. I looked him up, apparently the Canadians are playing in his home town so he lives at home and his parents come to all the games, which is kid of cool. 30 innings isn't a lot, but seems like a guy you might want to move up a level to see how he does at AA.
  4. I'm not getting rid of him necessarily. In the scenario where Cruz is traded to us I'm moving Grichuk. Dollars still matter to some degree. We're taking on salary in that trade. Where's the at bats if we bring in Nelson Cruz. I get that there's injury risk, so maybe you keep him. I'm somewhat ambivalent either way. I don't think Grichuk would take to sitting on the bench very well. That factors in as well. We're not likely trading for Berrios, Taylor and Cruz in a package deal so it's a moot point.
  5. Grichuk's contract was looking pretty good a few weeks ago! Regardless, he's a slightly above league average hitter for his career and can play all outfield positions. You wouldn't have to eat that much money to get rid of him. 5 or 6 mil for a veteran like Grichuk isn't a bad deal for teams. The guys work ethic is off the charts. Brining that veteran presence with his work ethic isn't as hard a sell as you're making it out to be.
  6. That's going to cost a lot more than Groshans. You'd have to send Grichuk or Gurriel back. Preferably Grichuk. Cruz is an elite hitter. Berrios is number 2 with a year of control and Taylor Rogers is a very good high leverage reliever. I like the idea of targeting Berrios or Rogers on solo deals or in a package and if we can get Cruz too, why not. It's not going to be cheap.
  7. Shohei Ohtani would be a fun guy to trade for. I know. It's never going to happen. He only has 2 years of control left after this year. I look at the Angels. They will have some payroll flexibility next year, but probably have 50 to 60 mil to spend and they have to build an entire rotation outside of Ohtani and a bullpen. Iglesias is a free agent. Ohtani is locked in at 5.5 mil next year(he should probably fire his agent), but his arb 3 year is probably 20+ mil. In 24 when he's a free agent they have 81 mil committed to 3 players. Rendon at 34 has 3 years left on his deal with a 35 mil cap hit. Extending Ohtani would cost 35 to 40 mil. Detmers is coming. Maybe as soon as next year at some point, but what else do they have. They have the payroll to add some pitchers, but they have a 2 year window. The Angels could be wasting 2 generational talents. It's remarkable that they had the good fortune of having a guy like Ohtani choose them and they still can't build a winner with Trout at the helm. Just for fun, what would you trade to get Shohei Ohtani. I know. They aren't going to trade him, but it's fun to think about.
  8. I get the sentiment. Prospects bust. Snider was a top 10 prospect in baseball. He was as sure of a thing as it gets and he didn't work out. Lately though..Bo, Vlad, Cavan, Kirk....lots of our young guys coming up have panned out. Perhaps the most recent times is tipping the bias in the other direction and we feel all our guys will work out. If you get someone elite who can really help out, you're going to have to give up some prospect capital.
  9. I'm curious as to what the cost for Scherzer would be. I don't think anyone is trading a prospect as highly rated as Martin for a rental.
  10. Martin is a pure hitter. He should have been the 2nd overall pick in the draft in 2019. I feel like his hit tool will translate through the levels to the MLB very well. Martin isn't untradeable, but he's close. It would have to be something special.
  11. guaranteed it was the advanced sports medicine team that decided he was going to sit, not Springer. He's probably sitting there thinking..thanks guys. It's not a whole lot better the next 3 days though.
  12. How about an Alejandro Kirk update. I heard he was Dhing 2 weeks ago at extended spring training games. Is he close to playing in AAA games?
  13. Nice Dr. Jekyll made and appearance tonight. Mr. Hyde had the night off.
  14. This has to be a record for overturned calls in one game against one ump. This one was admittedly the hardest one, but he also blew the foul ball call too.
  15. Great job by Robbie to get out of that. Now we just need the bullpen to bring it home!
  16. They've had enough of his s***. The ump from 2nd was like, I saw from over here you blind bat. We're not going to replay again and getting another one overturned.
  17. He had a 4.02 FIP with the Jays in 51 innings in 45 appearances. He gave up 0 runs in 31 of those appearances, 1 run in 7 of those appearances and more than one run 7 times. When I heard of the signing, I first thought who are we possibly going to replace? Then I realized there were several guys in the bullpen who I would get rid of to get those type of numbers. He still throws 98, we're bridging to the trade deadline. Why not have a look? My first choice would have been Osuna, but I'm the forgiving type, most aren't. There really aren't a whole lot of options. We could do worse than a veteran presence with a great beard who throws 98. Maybe we get lucky for a month.
  18. You don't like 31 year olds, let alone 38 year olds who haven't played in 3 years. I said we should sign Axford. I said it mostly in jest. I didn't think he will improve our bullpen, but I didn't think he would make it worse so the beard was the deciding factor for me. I didn't actually think they would sign him.
  19. Jordan Romano may soon have the 2nd best beard on the team once Axford is given his shot!
