  1. They can be optioned at any time to stop the service clock and pick up that extra year. They are pitching well now and 13 of the first 16 are against AL east teams. When I look out 7 years are the Yankees and Red Sox who's payrolls are that much higher than the Jays going to be as weak as they are today.
  2. yeah....I just read an article stating the Red Sox traded for David Price!
  3. as long as he hits 35 bombs this year, I could care less how much of a douchebag he is!
  4. I just watched the interview with Travis...kid is pumped. Made the team and is approaching his first ever major league game, which will be opening day at Yankee stadium. That's pretty cool.
  5. I do understand what you are saying. I'm surprised they both made the team. I thought Osuna would be in the minors. Alex is clearly gambling.
  6. wainwright was older. I get it, but Castro shouldn't be penalized because he's younger and exhibiting quality at such a young age. Wainwright pitched less than 80 innings as an 18 year old and pitched 164.2 innings as a 19 year old. Castro and Osuna can both be transitioned to starters next year. Just because you told me something, doesn't mean I agreed with you before or should now..lol. It's seems like a sin to you guys that the Jays are trying to win this year. Shame on them. It's been over 20 years....we can be patient.lol. I just opened a fantastic shiraz cab blend. It's a 2011...a little tight. It certainly will be marginally better in a few years, but it's so good right now, why would I wait? Same thing with Castro.
  7. make sure you include a reference to adam wainwright and how his 75 innings out of the pen ruined his career as a starter! The decisions made have been ultra aggressive, but that's because AA is going out swinging. This is going to be a fun year.
  8. I would have understood the decision, but I still would have thought that he's a stud and can do well at this level. I think from a service time decision he should have been optioned and brought up early on in the season. I just don't go out of my way to disagree with every decision the team makes. I certainly don't think I have a better understanding the game than the coaching and administrative staff of the Jays. I don't agree with every decision they make either. I think many of the decisions made are a direct result of AA having one year left on his contract.
  9. why don't you give us your expert analysis on Castro. What don't you like about him and what makes you think he belongs in the minors?
  10. I feel bad for Delabar, because he belongs on a major league roster.
  11. I don't need to see him dominate AA and AAA. I have 2 eyes. Russell Martin says he's ready. The coaching staff says he's ready. Some guys are just that good. Objectively the collective opinions of the Jays and the way Longoria struck out and stared out to the mound and thought to himself who the hell is that is more than enough for me to say he's going to be dominant this year. This is a message board. That's my opinion.
  12. really...which of these pitchers had a better fastball or changeup than Castro? Castro is a stud. He is going to be dominant this year because he's that good.
  13. He didn't have his stuff today, but because it was spring training they left him out there. In the regular season he never would have lasted as long as he did so that skews his numbers. I don't get the posters who gleefully post like it's Christmas morning when a player doesn't perform well....oh wait..you're a rays fan, not a jays fan.
  14. reyes has looked really good in spring training. This is the healthiest he's looked as a Jay and he played 143 games last year.
  15. probably a good thing
  16. Navarro has a below average strike out rate. He's a nice switch hitter to have on the bench. Valencia kills lefties and should be in against them. Smoak has power, but an above average strike out rate. Tough righties, I might play Navarro, because he will work counts better and make better contact. Smoak should handle third fourth and 5th righty starters. Navarro will catch Buehrle and give Martin a rest and Smoak can DH. Martin can also DH some of those games. There are at bats for Navarro, Smoak and Valencia. Having a backup switch hitting catcher who hits .280 and has a great rapport with Buehrle isn't the end of the world. Plus I enjoy typing butterball with a big hit...so there's that.
  17. read this too. I think AA might be interested, but I think he's more interested in making a mid season move and letting the Phillies pay some salary. It will give them time to see how the kids play out.
  18. I know you're not being serious...pretty lame attempt at humour no?
  19. that's the funniest thing I've read in a long time. The thought of Drabek being a better reliever than Castro is so funny. You're loathing of the Jays is clouding your judgement. Castro has 2 plus pitches he commands very well. He's young, he hasn't pitched in AA, or AAA, but he's got the stuff to be successful and I'm glad he's going to be helping the Jays win games this season. I'd delay his joining the team a couple weeks, but I want him on the team for the majority of the season.
  20. hutch could be a difference maker...so could Reyes if bounces back and has an above average year.
  21. he just hit 96...I'm not sure he's completely lost his fastball...but kate upton is a blow..lol
  22. Shi wrote an article about Sanchez in December about him altering his mechanics in AAA last season before he came up to the bigs. It wasn't big changes, he was just dropping his elbow and not getting on top of the ball and this was giving him control issues. Once he raised that arm slot slightly he had much better control. Do 999,999 inning matter if what caused you to be wild in those innings are things you no longer do? Joey Bats was not very good until September of 2009. He made mechanical and mental adjustments that made him a better player. From that point on his 2005 stats did not matter because he was fundamentally a different player. I can't say for certain Sanchez has made all the necessary adjustments to have a much better walk rate because I don't understand pitching mechanics well enough to make that assessment. The Jays staff seems to think that he has made enough adjustments to be successful at the big league level. The reality is he will continually have to make adjustments to maintain and get better from this point. The fact that prior to Sanchez ever coming up the Jays had indicated Sanchez had made adjustments to help him with his control and the results of a 2.5 walk rate last year and 4 walks in 18.1 innings this year lead me to believe he will not regress back to his minor league numbers. This spring he has used all his pitches including a new one and still only walked 4 batters.
  23. he's walked 4 batters in 18 and a 1/3 innings this year. Maybe he's turning a corner. He apparently had 8 swinging strikes in 61 pitches today which is 13.1%, but only struck out 2. In earlier games he had strike outs, but not enough swinging strikes. I'm most concerned with the walks. He hasn't been walking a lot of batters this spring or in his time in the majors last year.
