  1. The emergence of Osuna really made this trade possible. We have hutch, Stroman and Osuna, and Sanchez. Osuna has 3 quality pitches and will be a starter next year. The Jays are clearing 45 million off the books with Dickey, Buehrle, Romero, Izzy and Navarro and just got 2 mil more with the reyes for Tulo trade and we spent less money than we did last year. We are going to go sign a proven starter in the offseason even if it is a lesser and cheaper name than price. We're not going to go with 5 young pitchers in the rotation next year and we still have estrada as well. The emergence of Travis and Pillar combined with Donaldson and Saunders is so huge for the payroll. We will either get the pick for Price or we sign him...win win scenario and we may end up in the post season as well.
  2. .500 teams that are 6 games out of a playoff spot shouldn't trade for rentals. .500 teams 2 games out of a wild card spot with one team ahead of them is a different story.
  3. we are 2 games behind the twins for that second WC. I would hardly call that outside shot.
  4. The Jays have Devon Travis who would be top 3 in rookie of the year voting if he could stay healthy, Pillar who is a 3+ WAR player, Osuna, Donaldson, Saunders and Sanchez who are all controllable. They are all big league players already and Osuna is going to start next year. They have tulo and martin signed for the long term and EE and bats signed for one more year and Bats will likely sign an extension...could probably get both. I'm glad the Jays are going for it. You always have more prospects than you do spots for them in the future. We are going for it. Good for us. We still have Pompey and Alford and the arms we drafted this year and next and the year after that will fill the pipeline eventually. We should have the money to sign a price if we so choose at the end of the year, but it would be an overpay as all those contracts are, but it's time for the Jays to start acting like the big market they are and if they get into the playoffs and get revenue and did resign a price a rotation with Price, Stroman and Osuna at the top with our offense would be pretty competitive next year.
  5. I would be shocked if Osuna isn't given a chance to start. Kid has 3 quality pitches. His repertoire isn't suited as a reliever, he's just excelling there in the interim. The Jays obviously will have the cash to go get a pitcher even if it's not one of the many number 1s available in the offseason.
  6. the way the jays roll they will probably get cespedes to play left
  7. go get iwakuma.....you can probably get him for a very reasonable price and have a good chance of resigning him for next year.
  8. I think this sets the Jays up for next year. Do the right thing. They spent less this year than the last. They just traded dollars for dollars. Take the Buehrle, Dickey, Romero, izzy, Navarro money that is freed up at the end of the season and break your 5 year rule and go get a number 1 to go with stroman at the top. I'm sure Osuna will be given the chance to start next year, you have hutch, norris and Sanchez although that could change in the next couple days could change that
  9. I think Reyes will do better with a change of scenery, but he won't get back to that level
  10. That was my thinking too...in a deal for Carrasco maybe lol
  11. Alex has to have more coming now. We'll be trading for pitching soon and maybe be getting an announcement of when stroman will be pitching off the mound? One can hope
  12. so you're not the least bit concerned about Carrasco's arm injuries? Sometimes pitchers pitch until they are 38 with tremendous success, sometimes they verlander or CC sebathia out and are done at 30 or 31. Maybe the age difference isn't immaterial to all gms..
  13. if travis doesn't grab a bat this inning I'm going to lose it!
  14. damn..now he just bought himself another week...lol. Time to lock this thread
  15. okay...he just took away a 2 run homer...he gets one more day
  16. the mariners just look dis-interested in playing baseball....they look hung over
  17. I am not sure why you think it will take 90 wins to make the post season when it only took 88 last year and the way the wild card is going this year it could be 86 or 87. The Jays ended up winning so 40 and 23 to get to 90. Papa Buehrle has a huge game tomorrow and then on to 2 games against the Phillies...today needs to have been the start of a nice winning streak.
