Actually, he faced just over 79% lefties tonight, and against the Rays he faced lefties 54% of the time and as mentioned, the Yankee lefties are much better than the Rays lefties. Sanchez faced one of the toughest lineups for him that he will face all year. Even 7 swinging strikes is a 7.2% swinging strike rate against a lineup terribly disproportionate to what he will face on a regular basis. That 7.2% is higher than what he had the previous 2 years! He probably should have had 3 swinging strikes facing such a high percentage of lefties.
Trying to analyze and project stats off 97 pitches is indeed stupid, but NJH started it. Just the eye test, Sanchez didn't have the comeback 2 seamer that hit the inside corner against lefties that I saw in spring training. He wasn't as sharp as he was in spring or last outing, but he still made a lot of quality pitches, but he missed a bit more than in his previous couple outings. Sanchez, not at his best and pitching against a quality tough lefty loaded lineup, getting the results he did tonight is pretty encouraging. He walked 3 fighting the ump, but he still struck out 5 in 6 innings. I'll take that and look forward to his next start.
