  1. that was fricking spectacular
  2. It would be one thing if you were in on Cobb, Lynn, Arrieta or Darvish, but I don't see that happening. I don't want to commit multiple years to the tier below. If we're willing to increase payroll and the discount is there for one of the 4 pitchers that would be great.
  3. we could go with what we have but we have to sign some bullpen help if that's the case. We need to sign some pitching, and I don't think we have much to spend. I don't like the idea of committing much beyond this year. Romo might be a nice low cost gamble.
  4. Lackey gives you innings and an ERA around 4. The starters are AAA will get their opportunities. Lackey can transition to a bullpen roll. You're not going to get a cheaper depth piece that provides as much value as Lackey. I think you actually get a discount for his age and for how unlikable the guy is.
  5. I would just roll the dice with Lackey...1 year 3.5 mil to 5 mil.
  6. yeah...we may have given up quite a bit in this trade. I like the upside in Grichuk, but the idea that we didn't give up talent back is silly. Greene has some good stuff. Time will tell how it develops. Leone had a really good year last year and he's got 4 years left as well.
  7. So you think his physical tools dramatically declined from his age 27 to age 28 season? You said he defense is down. His so called decline was about opportunity and random brain cramps and errors that vary year to year. Defensive stats fluctuate a lot year to year and players peak at different times. The median peak may be 28.5, but a guy like Pillar hasn't had any major injuries. There aren't a lot of GMs in baseball that would be concerned his physical skills won't allow him to be a very similar player defensively to what he is today in his age 29, 30 and age 31 season. Josh Donaldson's last 3 years were his age 29, 30 and 31 seasons...the best of his career.
  8. PIllar's defense isn't down just because you went on Fangraphs and looked at his numbers. He hasn't had a major injury and he just tunred 29 days ago. His physical tools likely won't see a major hit over the next 3 or 4 years. He's in his prime. I don't mind the idea of trading Pillar though. He provides a lot of value with his defense and base running. We could get a quality return to help us other areas/
  9. I like Leone and I think Greene could be a very good reliever, but I do think Grichuk has a lot of upside. I don't mind the trade itself, but why did we sign Granderson? Our bullpen cost us a s*** ton of games and we lost one of our best relievers. Our starting pitching cost us a ton and we haven't added a starter. We're hoarding middle infielders and outfielders. The closest major league ready talent is in the outfield with Alford and Hernandez. It's nice that buffalo will have some great players, but there's more than just depth, there's redundancies in our roster and our holes just got bigger with the loss of one of our better relievers. I would say one of Pearce or Morales have to be traded given the moves we've made, so we'll have to see what happens. Maybe we will get some help in the pen with a trade.
  10. I'm purposely bitching about Morales. I bitched about smoak all day long and he had the best year of his career. I'm hoping the same for Morales! I also bitched about the Adam Lind trade for Estrada and that turned out well for the Jays too!
  11. I'd take Adam Lind all day long over Morales. He's not a great base runner, but he's much better than Morales on the base paths and he can actually play 1st base well enough to give smoak a day off. He will be lucky to get 5 mil. I'd rather pass on both Lind and Morales and have Grandy platoon with Pearce and have Pearce, Grandy, Diaz and Solarte should be rotating through the DH spot or the regular that they might be in the field for. We have too many bodies now and our young guys won't get as much of an opportunity.
  12. what's his bat speed?
  13. Jose had a higher exit velocity than Granderson last year. They are the same age. Jose takes care of his body extremely well. I hope they both have good season. If I was betting, I would bet on Jose to bounce back and have a better year than Granderson, but I think both could be slightly above average hitters.
  14. zeke isn't the guy we need to move. We need to move Morales...but that might take a miracle.
  15. you're writing off a 25 year old hitter who has less than 1500 plate appearances and a career 108 wrc+ in the 1386 plate appearances he does have?
  16. Borucki is first up...and I think SRF is next. SRF has good stuff. I think he bounces back this year. The adversity he went through last year will him in the long run. I think he spends the first half of the year in the minors continuing to work refining his delivery, improving his command and control. I don't think he gives up as many big flies this year and if we run into injuries in the rotation I think he will get a shot at some point.
  17. I agree....sign Lackey to a one year deal and borucki is first up if there is an injury.
  18. The Yankees didn't send top prospects for Stanton. We would have hardly have been left barren. We just had to make the financial commitment. The financial commitment is quite rightly a scary one and I'm not saying we should have traded for him. He wouldn't have come here anyways. The Jays weren't set up for mediocrity. We should't have signed Morales, but that didn't kill us. You can't Tulo, Sanchez and Travis for almost the entire season, combined with Happ, Donaldson, Martin, Pearce missing time. You then factor in Jose had the worst year of his career by a huge margin and the same for Tulo, for the time he played, and a lot went wrong. I don't blame management for the Bautista signing. No one would have predicted that drop off. You can't blame management for the amount of significant injuries or the just bad start they had. Everyone pressed early and didn't play close to the level they were capable of. It didn't take much to make the post season. Minnesota won 85 games. There's no reason to blame new management or old management for last year. There was a lot of bad luck involved. The Jays can and should compete for a wild card spot. We don't need to top the Yankees in the standings. We've improved our team with a couple trades already. Anyone in right should be better than Jose was last year. Our rotation should be better this year. Our minor league system has a lot more depth in the upper minors now with guys advancing last year.
  19. who are the late 30s early 40s dead weight contracts? We have 2 players, Martin and Tulo making big dollars that AA acquired. Martin contract ends after his age 36 season. We can be done with Tulo after his age 35 season. Martin is still productive. Tulo came with injury risks, but you couldn't have predicted the offensive decline he's had while he's been a Jay. I still think Tulo can bounce back offensively and put up a 3 to 4 win season. I don't think the Yankees are a very good comp.
  20. The Royals were the only team that popped into my mind as a team that might take him on if they don't get hosmer. Even if we had to chip in 5 mil this year I would do it.
  21. In an effort to get rid of 23 million you are going to take even more salary back? I'd settle for a token non prospect player in return if they would take on his salary or most of it.
  22. Usually the majority on here are salivating over the prospects they dream about acquiring by trading off our best players. It's funny to see people to discount our own prospects.
  23. I wish we could move Morales and just have Pearce DH and roll with Alford and Hernandez.
  24. you're projecting a relatively young player with less than 200 mlb plate appearances. His stats the last couple years in the minors have been pretty good. The margin of error projecting a player like this is pretty wide. If it's a choice of losing a guy or spending a million dollars to take a gamble on a guy, I'll spend a relatively low amount of dollars on the player. You're never going to compete in a division with 2 teams butting up or exceeding the luxury tax if you're not willing to take some chances.
  25. you're so much better than stro..lol
