  1. what do you think of alford?
  2. Depending on how things go Vlad and Bo could be ready a lot sooner than a few years.
  3. Travis looks so good. He's still developing as a player. If he stays healthy he could take a leap forward this year with his production.
  4. alford might actually be ready.
  5. yes, this guy isn't a poster who's posted for years under many different screen names.
  6. jaromir Suzuki is giving it a go.
  7. Lindy signs a minor league deal. Dude had a .875 OPS last year and has posted an .OPS+ of 123 or better 4 of the last 5 years and he can't get a major league deal.
  8. Pillar is batting .875. This will clearly be his breakout season offensively.
  9. he really does look better. Hopefully all the complaining I put in on the guy will result in him putting up an .850 OPS.
  10. The playoffs will be easy to make
  11. I've always liked Bob. He always gets good guests. Almost all his guests like him. Seems like Bias against old people on here...lol
  12. I know Josh was a late bloomer, but Turner didn't have his first productive season until his age 29 season and he only played 109 games. In his age 30 and 31 seasons he had two very good seasons that averaged out to 4.7 wins a season. Then he signed his contract. Donaldson has averaged 7 wins a season since his age 27 season. There's no doubt Turner took a discount because he liked his situation and in his first season of his contract he had one of his best seasons so the contract looks great, but the two players are not exactly an apples to apples comparison. Revenues are on the rise and Donaldson's contract will come 2 years later after most of the big clubs reset under the luxury tax.
  13. It's such a unique year because most of the big boys outside of Boston are resetting under the luxury tax. Next year there will be multiple teams in on the top of the market and the losers will be looking to Donaldson.
  14. problem is Josh sees Greinke earning 34 mil. Price over 30. Cabrerra getting 30 until he's 40. Jason Heyward is making 28 mil, Verlander 28 mil, Felix, Lester, Pujols in the 27 mil range. Donaldson has been top 4 in FWAR for 4 years in a row and would have been 5 in a row if he hadn't been injured last year. A 25 mil AAV isn't going to cut it despite his age. A rich team will just eat the bad years on his contract to get the 7 win player for the first 2 years.
  15. I feel for Scott Boras. I'm glad he's back on his feet.
  16. I would rather biagini in the bullpen borucki first up if there is an injury
  17. fire shatkins now then if 3 or more of those are probable.
  18. It's just easy being negative isn't it. The Twins won a wild card spot with 85 wins and we have no shot. Tulo's going to post an .OPS south of .650, Travis will be gone for the season by May, Grichuk will strike out 200 times, Sanchez will hit the DL at least twice, Smoak will look like the 2016 version. It's over!
  19. he also has a career 3.63 FIP. He strikes out a lot of batters. If he can get his walk rate just a tick lower than his career average he could provide a few innings in the bullpen while giving killer weekly movie reviews.
  20. Axford is a good dude. He hasn't lost his velocity. Hopefully he can find something. Good minor league signings.
  21. On the Macro guys fall off a cliff mid 30s. When you look at the micro a guy like Beltre is projecting for a 4 win season next year for his age 39 season. You throw the blanket aging curve out the door and delve into Donaldson and determine what tools makes him as successful as he is. How will those tools look 3, 4 5+ years out. You're relying on your scouts and taking on big risk. It could be an epic flop or it could provide tremendous value. JD could be a 5 to 6 win player 3 or 4 years into his free agency. At that point his contract will provide huge value. You pair that with Vlad, Bo, Alford, Pearson...etc and that's how you build playoff teams. If you're wrong, you could be in a scenario where 3 to 4 years into a JD free agency contract you are trading off the Vlad's to get prospects for your next run. At some point you have to gamble. I'm not sure if a JD gamble would be the right move or not. I do think given his age, you might get discount. Manny likely gets a higher AAV for 10 years than JD gets on a 5 year deal. He certainly gets a higher AAV if JD gets a 6 year deal. I think JD is easily the better player for the first 2 years. He might be the better player for 4 or 5 years of the deal. If that's the case, you've won.
  22. They wouldn't have to because age 38 would be the 6th year. I think 5 140 is a fair offer. 30 for 3 years, 2 years at 25 with a team option on the 6th at 20 1 mil buyout.
  23. The market has changed. JD is going to be 33 in his first year of free agency. The market has changed and teams aren't paying older players. I don't think he's going to get the insane offers. Teams just aren't paying older players anymore.
  24. I wonder if we're at the point that we might start seeing some 1 year pillow contracts for some of the guys who thought they would get multi year deals.
