  1. yes my mistake...89....same year the Riders won the Grey Cup. I stand corrected.
  2. Vlad/Bo.....could care less about Matthews/Marner...Go Flames Go!
  3. Age matters, because I remember going to games when those guys were signed. The skydome opened in 87, we lead the league in attendance and we have one of the best cultures of winning in baseball. It was a completely different era. You're high and mighty, but too much of a wimp to actually stick your neck out and make any predictions. You'd rather talk bad about the people of Saskatchewan. Have you ever been to Saskatchewan? Who are we going to target in free agency or what type of players will we target. What will our rotation look like over the next couple years. Our young talent on the position side looks like it has the potential to compete, our pitching however is garbage.
  4. At a boy Danny...way to make em pay!
  5. so is Alford coming up? I noticed he wasn't in the Bison's game tonight. Sorry, if this has been mentioned on the broadcast..haven't been watching the game.
  6. Yes, we Saskatchewan folks are cut off, and have no idea what Toronto is all about. We never travel. Winfield was 40 when he signed, Molitor was 36, Dave Stewart was 36, Morris was 37 and they signed with in an era where the Blue Jays had a winning culture. I'm old enough to remember 85 to 93. It was a great time. Where did I say anything about frequent travel? I said we are at a disadvantage to signing some american players because it's true. I love Toronto. I think it's a great city. People like Halladay resigned here because once they got here they realized what a great city it is. You can go f*** yourself for calling me a self-hating Canadian and bashing the province I live in. I'm a proud Canadian and proud sports fan in the province of Saskachewan. We funded a brand new football stadium because the people here supported it. I said money talks, but we are a team with some good young positional players to build around. We're losing a ton of games this year and we have no rotation. If you don't think we are at a disadvantage over the next couple years in the free agent market you're delusional. We don't have club on the precipice of winning, we aren't more desirable than the locations I mentioned and they have winning cultures. We can sign guys. We just have to pay a premium. That's simply reality. In 4 years if we have some of our young pitching prospects turn out to be Syndergaard, Degrom and Wheeler, of course that's going to sway free agents and we will be considered a destination spot because players want to win. You're so high and mighty. Who's going to be in our rotation in 2020, and 2021? Which free agents are we going to land? If you're going to talk the big talk, why don't you stick your neck out and make some predictions. I've already said we should be capable of landing a Cole, we just have to offer him a massive contract. If a team offers him 210, we go an extra year and go 240.
  7. Toronto has always been considered an undesirable place to sign by free agents, especially with american born players. We might not be bottom of the barrel and money certainly does talk, but we're going to have to pay a premium if the same money is on the table and the player is choosing between LA, the Yankees, the Sox, the Cubs and us. I'm not saying our situation is different than other smaller market and mid-level market clubs. It's the inherent advantage that the big clubs have. They have more money and players want to play there. It might not be 15%, but you're delusional to think that we won't have to pay a premium like many other clubs would have to pay to get top free agents. The Padres offered Manny and they offered the most money. I'm not saying it's an impossible challenge, but it's not an easy task either. We should have a war chest of funds available. Let's see what they do. Over the last 20 years outside of the guys who came through our organization we have signed Martin, BJ Ryan and Burnett. If I go back a little further we signed Roger Clemens in 1996. I mean we did get Clemens so I'm not saying it's impossible. The last time we got a top tier free agent was 23 years ago.
  8. Let's not give up on Big Rowdy just yet. He's only had 97 plate appearances at AAA, but he's taken a few more walks and his 91% better than league average over that span. He probably deserves a few more at bats in the big league before we throw in the towel.
  9. You have no idea what Stroman would have signed for. All you comments again are pure speculation with zero basis in facts. If you think Wheeler is going to leave mets and sign here for 5 for 80 I think you're drunk as a skunk too. I've already said, if we land some big fish in free agency I will capitulate and turn a lot more optimistic. My whole stance on extending stro was that I thought he would actually sign here at a reasonable amount. You are convinced he wanted 30 mil a season. The clause in the contract for people signing here isn't going to be they'll change their name to Stroman. It's going to be pay me 15% more on an AAV basis than anyone else and give me an extra year. We'll see what management is willing to do.
  10. Vlad's bat is going to be there no doubt. I wouldn't be putting big money that Bo's bat will be better than Vlad next year, but I think it's time for us to look at transitioning Vlad to first. Let's go out and sign Rendon and move Vlad to first! Okay, I know that's never going to happen, but Vlad isn't going to cut it at third.
  11. Ok...there's no way Wheeler is signing here for 5 for 80. So you're down to Stroman for 5 for 80 or Kay + SWR. How is it possible we can't afford both? We have 30 mil committed in salary next year, 18 mil in 2021 and 15 mil in 2022. We spent north of 150 when we made the playoffs. Those 5 year deals would be done before any extensions for the kids would kick in. We all need to interpret what the word "opportunistic" means. The free agency period will be important over the next few years.
  12. Biggio's probably up to 10 Ks on balls off the plate...crazy.
  13. This is getting a little absurd.....Bichette you are a monster...the Yeti is here!
  14. Bichette's swing reminds me of Donaldson.
  15. That's complete conjecture. What makes you think Wheeler is going to sign here for those dollars? If we're playing this game I'd rather have Wheeler and Stroman.
  16. What are you talking about? How is the Garcia comment out of line. Garcia was pretty good for several years having a good 2015. He had a couple not so great years in 2016 and 2017. When we signed him and actually paid 10 mil I even thought he could be a bounce back candidate. He was not. How is equating Godley to what happened with Garcia out of line. His team gave him up for free. There's a 10% chance he recaptures what he did in the previous 2 years. If you read my earlier posts I also said the signing wasn't a bad thing. He was free. There's no problem with acquiring a free guy and they need people to eat innings. If they decide to tender him a contract, we're not spending any money anyways so whatever he gets in arbitration isn't going to be a big deal. I just think the people posting his WAR from the previous 2 years are setting themselves up for disappointment. I fully acknowledge most don't have high expectations. Do you? What opinions based on logic and fact have I opposed? I didn't like Shatkins trade deadline. Guess what, there's plenty of people lined up on both sides of that discussion.
  17. Scherzer's a guy in 2022 that you're probably still looking at in free agency. He could still be very good at 37! If we offer cole a really good offer and he goes elsewhere so be it. I just want to at least pursue the guy.
  18. I wouldn't be totally adverse to signing a Wheeler, but there is injury risk there. If we couldn't get Cole or Bumgarner I would take a look at one of Wheeler or Wood.
  19. you need to go to some anger management classes..lol. Can you get through one post without calling swearing at people you don't agree with. I said, I was perfectly fine with the claim. I thought it was a good thing. I said we need arms. Godley is a guy with velocity trending in the wrong direction and a dramatic decline in his K rate. When you're talking about a guy who walks quite a few batters and the team has given up on him, it's more likely the league is adjusting to him and he probably won't be that good next year. Yes, there is a chance he could bounce back. It's unlikely. Which part of that is untrue. Shoemaker's stuff was never the issue. He got non-tendered because he couldn't stay healthy. I still like the pick up of shoemaker despite his injury this year because I like his stuff and next year could be the year he stays healthy. My god, I wasn't even slighting your hero in my post and you got jumpy. Pot is now legal in Canada, you can find it everywhere.
  20. Just like Jamie Garcia...sometimes when a guy has a dramatic fall and his team gives him away for free there's a reason. Feel free to bump this and gloat if he bounces back.
  21. I'd do that in heart beat for cole. I would be in on Bumgarner too if the price was right. Honestly, my entire opinion of Shatkins would change if they landed Cole. Even if they signed a Bumgarner I would soften my stance. If they sign Gibson, nothing would change.
  22. I'm a risk taker, but Wheeler even gives me anxiety. You want to commit years and dollars to a guy who might spend half of it on the DL.
  23. I feel like it's always guys like Pete coaching because guys like Pedro made enough money that the don't need to coach and they can get cushy tv jobs.
  24. I don't like Shatkins, but I can't blame them for that trade and you can never go wrong with free so I have no problem with the claim seeing as how we need arms, but I laugh at the fan club that thinks Godley is going to have value.
  25. Alford had a .459 OPS through a full month of April striking out 40%. He was in an abyss. It's pretty impressive for him to mentally over come that. I'm not sure if he made some mechanical adjustments or his approach at the plate change, but he's put up a .910 OPS in his last 90 days. He's really been quite good since the month of May. He's still a guy who runs a 4.5 40 and built like a linebacker. The raw power is there, he has a good arm and great speed. I hope he gets quite of bit of time in September. Tellez also 2 for 4 tonight with a pair of doubles. he's now hitting .342 in Buffalo. He certainly deserves some at bats come September.
